Having done 3 of these crossings, my tip for drivers is NOT to arrive early. The first shall be last, meaning you’ll disembark (eventually) last. Cars arriving after the suggested arrival time (1 hour before sailing) are loaded first and off first. This is a consistent BF practice.
Unfortunately on western sailings BF don’t have any competition and are therefore comparatively expensive, use tired vessels and charge high prices for mediocre food.

May help if you knew where you were going! Roscoff is in France! Plymouth to Santander is where you land in spain! I think the journey time is a clue! To get to Roscoff (France) takes 5 ad a half hours, to get to Santander takes 20-22 hours! You must've been disappointed getting to Brittany rather than sunny spain!
