    I've been saving this video for a day when I have the need for some inspiration, and it turns out I need that inspiration sooner than I realized. I have come to consult your advice before I do something that causes the Guitar Gods to come after me 🎸😢 I really love when you go into detail like this about what you were aiming for and what you were thinking while designing and creating your methods. I think it's certainly fair to say you accomplished your goal!
    Been using Metal Rhythm/Lead for 2 years and a half or so now and I personally believe i've made tremendous strides in all areas of my playing and musicianship, just by focusing on the material you made (with some supplement alternative books when i'm burnt out on your methods, a "break" using other material for a few months) and believing as much as I can that I can accomplish things if I go in with a long term plan with short term goals to strive for. There have been many doubts, troubles, and days where the fire wasn't completely there, but I've stayed pretty true and your methods have been the anchor to hold it all together. I've had Fretboard Mastery and Total Rock Guitar for well over a decade, love them both and still both have so much to teach me as I become more ready. Now more than ever I feel like Fretboard Mastery book is an open door, and that's because of the incredible instructional material and your Patreon platform you have been building. Thanks for all the teaching and inspiration through the years Troy, you're one of my favourite guitarists and musicians ever, the world is brighter because of the things you do

      Collin, thank you so much for your encouragement here. Creating and publishing instructional material is a very solitary endeavor, so it's always so good to hear that it'll impacting real people in a significant way. I always begin to forget that as I roll along... but comments like yours keep me inspired to dig in and do more! thank you for that, my friend

      @@TroyStetinaMusic Thanks a lot man. There are so many people out there like me that your instructional and musical efforts have impacted so greatly, so I'm speaking for myself but I'm sure many others would agree: Thanks so much for all you've done and continue to do. I can barely keep up with the patreon stuff but whenever I go there and see all the things you've created i'm astounded and grateful to have these things to consider and draw greater understanding and contemplation from. Rock on man, loved your EP and I look forward to more! Like Water Flows is such a sad but beautiful song, some of the lyrics bring me to tears. A definite highlight and each song was very different which I resonate with.

    I bought metal lead guitar books I and II in 1988/89. When i heard all the exercises and solos i thought i would never reach that level. I went through them and it took me a few years to get there (some solos:). Dedication and persistence are key. I ended up buying almost all of Troy's books that I keep religiously. You are a master a true guitar wizard.!!! The best!!!
    Thanks for sharing knowledge!

    Your method is the only one from which I gathered confidence playing the way I wanted to. I've accomplished best from Speed Mechanics and Metal LG1&2. I have tried with many books but ended up not getting further as there seems disconnect. Your method feels as if the book is written for me. I get engrossed while practicing and while I'm out at other end I reach a milestone in goal I want to accomplish. I feel confident and better. Your book changed my attitude in learning from being hopeless to hopeful in learning lead. Thanks for writing the books and sharing this video. It seriously means the world to me as I can in my own personal world learn and achieve what I've always wanted to, considering my professional limitations now. Take a bow from me Troy.

    What I appreciate from your books it's was clear to me right from the beginning you know what you're venturing into which cannot be said from other book methods. For example: the intro says something like "by the end of this book you should able to play solos like this... (awesome solo music)." The covers helped also, if it is a Thrash method, you see a guy in that front cover that could be a member from Slayer. It is clear if you're into or not. Other books have cool guitars in the cover, but the content doesn't represent at all what I imagine. Most have metronome with very dry guitar sound to practice, but it feels so dull and academic, you don't feel you're about to rock the scence, but more you're going to earn a degree at the end of the book....

    These books are a serious formation on your way as a guitarist and musician. something I don't see in other books. forms a very clear idea of the basics of music as a leading guitarist. from a pentatonic. down to a minor harmonic scale. explains many concepts. Even today, when I have to put out a complex song, I re-structure the way I learned from these books. I keep moving forward as a musician. but these concepts are always present. although the building is very tall. the base is always present.

    I loved this video, a great guitar teacher shows more than licks, he teaches you how to practice & how to manage a students expectations, I just picked up Metal Lead Guitar Primer, boy was I wrong for not buying this at the time, I love the call & response in the two solos, it teaches the student to improvise, I’m going back to the beginning to relearn to whole method, thanks for the books & videos.

    It's as if Troy was reading my mind and answered questions I've been thinking of.
    So many times answers given to us newer players are ambiguous and never really help, but create more doubts.
    Thanks so much for taking the time to do this.
    I've been working on a few things from Rythm 1 chapter 5 and total rock Guitar song number 4, thinking "why am I taking so long to nail this it's been like 3 months." This video really helps me see why some things will take months to fully absorb.

      Yes, the method was intended for Intermediate players who have already been playing lead a few years and have the basics down. That’s why I later added Metal Lead Guitar Primer to help cover that gap

    Great video. The methods (and Speed Mechanics even more so) are so packed with knowledge it feels like you aren’t making much progress from a chapter standpoint but really you are making a lot of progress from a playing standpoint.
    Also, did you “invent” the combination tab/rhythm notation? Quite revolutionary if so, I remember when you had to read the rhythm from the staff and notes from the TAB, an extra step of you aren’t reading the actual notation.

    • @TroyStetinaMusic
      @TroyStetinaMusic  2 года назад +2

      Yes, I believe I did. There was some fingerstyle playing that printed the rhythm stems below the tab line to give some indication of time. But fusing the rhythm directly to TAB, and doing so with all the bend notation... that was a first

    Well, now I know why I struggle with the metal lead guitar volume 1 and, now with the primer as well, kinda.
    Just starting with them as one of my first guitar books was maybe not quite the smartest choice.

    • @TroyStetinaMusic
      @TroyStetinaMusic  2 года назад

      Metal Rhythm Guitar is a better starting point. Then supplement that with learning a couple dozen songs. I tell ppl to start the lead Primer when they are nearing the end of MRG 2

      @@TroyStetinaMusic That's great advice, thank you very much for your time!
      I'm thinking MRG 2 will take quite a while to work through, as well?
      Also, in regards to your patreon: I'm not sure how much I'd benefit as a beginner. besides of course supporting you, but I'm not big on subscriptions. Do you know if I can keep the patreon "goodies" if I pay up front for a year and cancel the sub?
      Cheers, all the best for you and yours.

    I’m learning with your 4 books (2 rhythm and 2 lead). So what is the right approach and sequence to learn? Finish all the 2 rhythm books first then start with the lead or rhythm 1 > lead 1 > rhythm 2 > lead 2? What is your advice?

    • @TroyStetinaMusic

      MRG1, then you can do MRG 2 and MLG 1 simultaneously. Can also pick up MLG Primer and start going thru it when you are half way thru MRG 1.
