A few things I'd like to add. Firstly I was watching this while cooking and finally finishing the video while knitting. So you can multitask. I can literally knit without looking. Second: my mom once received a bottle of vodka from an ex coworker. Her daughter has a Ukrainian boyfriend/husband and bought the bottle in Ukraine but we saw it at our local Russian store in the city center. I don't drink but my mom's hard Ukrainian stomach can endure that. But the cool part is the bottle if I remember correctly is white but turns blue (or vice versa) when cold. It was super cool. Basically you take it out of the fridge and changes colour to the temperature. Third: I don't know if this counts as design p*rn but... I made some cool flat book covers for a university assignment. We were given 4 things: a turtle, 3 oranges, a kitchen and Ugo. We had to make 2 stories with the things given and create two hypothetical back and front book covers that didn't necessarily have to include all the things given for the art. With flat cover it's referred to 2D illustrations and not photos. I came up with two book covers that were part of the genres given and a classmate said they looked super pretty. He liked a lot the illustration I did on illustrator quite quickly. I'm proud of myself for being able to draw a fridge with three oranges inside in the dark for a cookbook cover. Or a plant in front of a window for a manual about caring for plants and houspets.
No, you can't "Multitask" You brain can perform more than one activity but not anything that requires direct input, like Knitting and cooking. You might think you're multitasking because you perceive to be doing more than one thing at once, but it's just your brain doing one thing, stopping and doing another in quick succession. In general, trying to perform more than one task at once yields poor results. Nobody's special, nor the exception to the rule.
it's interesting to hear Robin "Companies Are Not Your Friends" Emkay giving such high praise to clever designs used by big companies. I'm not even saying it's contradictory, it makes for a nice change of pace to be able to notice nice things.
I honestly completely agree. There are some pros that come with all the cons, our quality of living is *technically* higher, and sometimes that is nice.
4:18 I looked at this and my stomach growled a little. Obviously whoever made this knows what they were doing. Also I guess that I want snickerdoodles now.
You can multitask simple things. Like talking and walking. The two things have to be pretty much wired as simple tasks. Like rocking in your chair while reading/typing. Listening while writing is a harder thing for me to do but it probably can and is done more easily [just not by me at this current moment]
I can tell you that it's hard AF to do 2 things that require direct input at the same time. For example, you can't play 2 different songs on 2 different instruments. Not because you lack music experience, but because your brain needs to go from one song to the other. You can, tho, pay two songs in the same instrument given it's a piano. As your brain will eventually get wired to be able to do so without input. But as long as it requires you to pay attention so you don't fck it up, no, you can't.
The bird scissors have been around forever (1930s at least). They're stork embroidery scissors. My grandma and mom both had them, and while I don't sew I find them useful for other projects. The design hasn't changed much over time either, and I've always liked the design.

I have those bird scissors, not only are they pretty, they fit really nearly against my fingers with the curve, making it easier to angle for snipping threads
In Mexico there is a legislation that banned use of mascots in products with sugar to try to reduce chilhood obesity, I dont know where the cereal from the picture comes from, or if it is the same cause, but that is one reasons tony the tiger isn't in cereal boxes anymore here (some companies keep using mascots anyway, tho). On the other hand, in some places is expensier to use colours on cereal boxes, so they just try to use the bare minimun in order to have a better manufacturing and final price.
6:43 i currently have a label for a water bottle that i'm blowing into to make it wiggle around. it would be sad if you tool the label off without wanting to recycle it
Emkay, quick feedback: I really, really like how in this one, XYC makes reference to a previous video, and also talks freely about it as he wants. Keep that up, it actually worked to bring some consistency across videos and I love it
I recently travelled to Pennsylvania by bus and stayed there for a week. Gotta say, I got harassed by enough homeless folk that I no longer resent anti-homeless designs. My entire opinion of Philadelphia is tainted by people that 'just needed a few bucks'.
ok so for the 2:36 I think that's the design used by Mexico food company as Mexico's obesity rate was at an all-time high and so the cute mascot and appealing advertisement on those foods were removed as the government is trying to cut down the obesity rate

2:48 The Owl House
That hall of science actually does exist! Its called the Pyongyang sci-tech complex. :)
In the cereal there could be an anti-mascot thing, where I live cereal boxes can't have mascots anymore to avoid manipulative marketing at children.
that Istanbul tower block reminds me of the renovated Park Hill flats in Sheffield (originally built about 1960, brutalist style, and Grade II listed); the concrete shell of the building is intact, but the coloured panels in the windows make it much more visually attractive
5:44 Fahrenheit 451 is a book about censorship lol, the match represents the censorship, and the "451" represents the temp the paper burns at
Can you imagine trying to clean that pool ceiling? So much dust and spider webs.
I have those bird scissors, not only are they pretty, they fit really nearly against my fingers with the curve, making it easier to angle for snipping threads
0:52 imagine that someone asks you on what floor you live on and you just respond with an RGB value
On the other hand, in some places is expensier to use colours on cereal boxes, so they just try to use the bare minimun in order to have a better manufacturing and final price.
r/designporn might just be one of my favorite subreddits of all time
I collect bottles as a hobby, and the Galaxy's Edge Coca-Cola bottle is now on my list of items to obtain for my collection.
I don't really support them but I more than understand them. When there is a homeless person outside a business, I second guess going there.
Hey! We've got those TP holders here in the Netherlands! I was considering buying one when we saw it when we were on Texel, an island in the Netherlands known for the huge amount of sheep!
8:29 yeah no thanks I want to keep my spine intact
The heck happened?
Yeah what happened??!
@@painofglass1450 a streamer broke her spine at twitch con after jumping in a foam pit that was too shallow
@@realbrickbread and the announcers knew it was too shallow, and suggested people could dive into it
0:59 I live in Turkey and yes!! these are very common however the colors get more muted and desaturated as they lose color, these are new new buildings!!
