- After watching some RUclips videos on how to replace the front valve cover gasket, I was inspired to make a video to show others how to skip some unnecessary steps to make the job easier and faster.
Toby pines is primarily a channel where I release original music. I am a nomadic creative person who lives in this van I'm working on. As someone who has always driven older cars, I have picked up some useful, basic mechanical skills along the way. Hopefully I don't have to do anymore repairs anytime soon but if I do I will post them. Thak you for visiting.

Best video I ever see for this job. Good luck on your date 😃
Thank you!
great job, we need more videos. thank you.👏👏👏
Of course the other videos are more complicated, they probably had to replace the rear seals, which means the everything above the heads need to come off. Also, it's highly recommended to replace the half moons. Finally, the asswipes at Toyota made these one time use only valve cover bolts, though you could get away with adding a couple washers to each of them, otherwise you risk leaking. Anyway, good luck with your lesbian date :D
Nice job.
Fantastic video!! Thanks for eliminating unnecessary steps for this. Very helpful to me 👍
Thanks for sharing. This is exactly what I am looking for. Great job.
Thank you for sharing 😊. Good job
Wow you're really cool, thanks for the guide!
great video! most of the videos i've seen overcomplicate the process. i hope your date went well!
Nice video thanks
Word up! Thank you! This video came through!
You're welcome 🤗
Nice work! 💯👍👊
Thanks bro 🙌
Great tips
You can always read the sticker on the side and figure out what month your sienna was built.. the new set up is much easier to swap out
How long does it take you? I have a p1130 code I'm trying to fix, my car overheated because the radiator blew and I had to drive a couple miles I pulled over and put in more water in the radiator but I think there may be some damage. There's a little bit of rattling sometimes when I start it and stop it I'm not really sure what's going on.
I've been told it might be the head gasket
How's your Sienna doing these days? Love the video, Bob Ross reminiscent!
Bob Ross! Haha. It's running good🤞 Only major problem I've had is the ABS module which was a pain to diagnose and expensive to fix. And the Rack and Pinion. It's got 170k now. I saw one today selling for 2,900 with 342k on it 😮
So did you end up using the VS50588R part at 0:43 or was this the part you returned?
how can you figure out the part number for the seal ? even with the vin i'm not quite sure where i can find the info.
The Toyota valve cover bolts on this engine are one time use only. The bolts stretch upon tightening them, to facilitate a good seal. They don't stretch again when reused, which comprises the seal and leads to leaks which are worse than what originally led to the gasket replacement. Valve cover bolts cost around $30 for the entire set. IMHO, the valve cover gasket kit should include the bolts so the new gasket can seal the way it's designed to. Otherwise there's just no end to those leaking valve covers
Where can i get those spécial valve cover bolts for 30$ please?
Good to know thank you
How can these be stretch bolts when they are only tightened to 69 inch pounds? It seems unlikely that they can even stretch with such low torque.
Awesome video ty
Would you be able to see if the back VCgasket is leaking? Oh and what would happen if you ignored your leak - aside from having to top off oil from time to time? I mean I get that its making a mess and there is something in front of engine block that has a cover that would be effected and might be important. I've been quoted $600 for the job, after recovering from shock - Im thinking that would included both front and back gasket so I need to be more specific next time.
You would be able to see if the front part of the back gasket is leaking. I drove mine leaking for a month and I had to keep topping off the oil but I don't know if there would be greater repercussions for driving it with a leak for a longer period of time. Around these parts, in NC, they quote 150 for the front gasket replacement. If you can't do the job yourself and you can't afford it, I would just change the front gasket. And then if your oil keeps leaking after you change the front one, you would know there was an oil leak somewhere else.
You can see if the back one is leaking from under the vihicle. I was getting ready to start one, and realized I have to remove the intake manifold, to change the back one. So I went looking for videos. I was disappointed to see she didn't do the back.
What is the half moon piece and what does it do?
It’s to have enough clearance to use a tool to remove the cams on the engine .❤
I would put the RTV on that plastic part, just so it doesn't leak in the near future.
Don't!
@@gabrieldore3017 why not? For all I know, it might have been leaking there too.
I might need my hands🤣
Did you ever use your hands that night?
Prepare for the landing 😂
Nice work! Good hands, good tongue, good camera work. Multi-tasker. Sexy. But you had me at Toyota Sienna....😅
Do not start the job unless you have an E6 female bit socket. Without it, you cannot remove the valve cover and the (spark plugs) coil pack. A crucial piece of information she forgot to mention.
This tool is unnecessary.
Excellent video except for volume..don't use conversation voice level w videos. Project your voice! Had to increase to full volume on pad and ear phones to hear well.
It was relaxing though.
Bob Ross would disagree
Odd I didn’t have any problems hearing her on my iphone.
@@jamesgregory3937 Was on my pc. W volune full up.
Oh f.f.s. front cover is sofa king simple, what is even the point of a video? 'Some folks make it so difficult'... Of course, they aren't slackazzes, and actually replace the rear seal as well.
This video is a waste of time.
...and btw, you sound very stoned.
