Oss! In this video sensei Naka says that it is more difficult to move slowly than fast, which I have verified by doing kata very slowly, as if it were taichi. We are used to doing everything quickly because anxiety dominates us, and we rush when we want something to end. This happens in all training, when we do push-ups, for example, we want to do it fast as soon as we get tired. In this way we lose sight of the correct technique and end up doing the exercise wrong. Excellent and very educational class. Osss!
Although this appears simple, it isn't. This sort of attention to detail is what will keep you alive on the street. My sensei, an Okinawan stylist, teaches and taught with this level of detail. Don't think about whether you think this is correct or not or whether you agree or not or whether you like it or not or whether it's like your style or not, simply pay attention and do. Karate is doing. Be grateful that this instruction is here for you to learn from. Never has there been a time in history where a karate practitioner could learn from every great master on the planet. Carry on.
I have a lot of respect for Sensei Naka, but in my experience, the more detail the less applicable to actual fighting. People ought to question what they're training and not just shut up and do it.
@@thomasbrown3793 É simples. Você pode treinar de forma a desenvolver mais energia no golpe e com movimento mais fluido ou treinar de qualquer jeito... osu sensei, i have a doubt . in tai - chi they say we can channelize our energy and remove energy block ( chi ) even in street figher 2 animated movie. ryu and ken do prana ( chi, ki ) cleaning exercise . Is there really any exercise in karate for removing block in ki ( prana ) flow.
From what I see here, it looks to me that Naka sensei is doing taikyoku shodan a bit different than how I've seen it in other classes. I usually do oi-zuki with zenkutsu-dachi stance. Here this appears to be poor practice because it does not use our center of gravity and so leads to a poor transfer of power? It is better to switch into kiba-dachi for such a kata? I will continue to investigate, but it would be great to hear some feedback and more on the motivation, if possible.
taikyoku shodan is traditionally taught using zenkutsu dachi and oi zuki. but there are also several variations that have been passed down that help to practice the turning and transition between other stances and waza. in this video, the beginner students had clearly already learned taikyoku shodan prior to practicing it with the kiba dachi variation. this variation is the perfect exercise to practice maintaining our center of gravity as we turn and punch to the side. other similar examples include heian sandan, jion, and jitte, where it is important to keep the center line while moving forward and turning from kiba dachi into kiba dachi. it is taught to slide the feet along the center line and not rotate the hip 180 degrees until the end of the waza - so that you maintain and generate more power, kime, and stability in its execution…
I think this is too much for white belts. Heian Shodan is hard enough already. This is more like brown belt level (Jion comes to mind for this kind of exercise).
Naka Sensei is superb. But I disagree on the point at 0:25 (turning left by rotating on your heel opening your feet). Literally no professional athlete would do this at speed (tennis, basketball, soccer, etc). Not one. All of them will turn on the BOLD of their feet. ALL OF THEM.
