My mom called them "minute steaks" because they only took a minute to cook. Agreed that some sauce/gravy should be included. It can be dry.

    When you crack an egg in a pan, let it cook without touching it until you remove it, that's sunny side up (egg yolk looks like the sun in the sky). The eggs on the other plate were over-easy where you flip the egg over after a min and don't break the yolk in the process.

    AMERICAN BISCUITS ARE NOTHING LIKE SCONES. They are buttery, light and fluffy with multitudinous layers, meant to be split open and drenched with yet more butter and then honey or jam or apple butter.

    • @PepperSprayed-bc5de
      @PepperSprayed-bc5de 21 день назад

      British scones versus American biscuits: biscuits are what scones wish they could be when they grow up. The British do not know how to make a proper dough for such, where cold water and the right amount of vegetable shortening and sifted all-purpose flour are key. The British, lacking any technique, simply mush together all ingredients and bake it into a hardened, dry paperweight, whereas biscuits are light and fluffy and a perfect foil for butter, jams, jellies, preserves and all manner of spreads and even sauces, hence another Southern classic like biscuits and sausage gravy. Never mind the hype over 'British baking' (all a TV fantasy....). The British are lackluster bakers, as they are pretty poor cooks generally. And their 'native' food items that they showboat as 'upper' or 'posh' are perennial letdowns. A mass-produced Twinkie is a better sponge-cake than their much-ballyhooed Victoria sponge - and so on.

    Chicken fried steak is made most often with cube steak, or steak that has already been tenderized, or a cheap cut like round steak. It was originally created to make a cheap cut of meat taste better. No matter which cut you use, you have to pound it thin with a meat mallet. It gets its name from the breading used on the outside of the steak before it's fried in the same manner as traditional fried chicken. In Germany they might call this a schnitzel. the drippings in the pan left after frying are used to make the milk gravy or white gravy

    FYI - The female had eggs over easy, which means the egg was cooked on both sides but the 2nd side was cooked less than the 1st side so that the egg yolk is still runny. The male had eggs "sunny side up", which means that the eggs were only cooked (fully) on 1 side so that the egg yolk on the uncooked side looks very yellow (hence, looks like the color of the sun)... that's why they're called sunny side up. The male also had a chicken fried steak. The steak is deep fried in oil and is covered with the same batter that is used in fried chicken. That breading gives the steak a unique flavor and texture. Hash brown casserole is made with cheese in it. Hope it helps.

    Jelly: Jelly is made with strained fruit juice. There are no pieces of fruit in jelly.
    Jam: Jam is made with mashed fruit.
    Preserves: Preserves have whole fruit or large pieces of fruit. Some fruits such as blackberries or raspberries will not stay whole during the processing so there may not be much difference between raspberry jam and raspberry preserve.
    Fruit spreads (only fruit): These are 100% fruit with no sugar added. If needed, a sweet fruit juice such as white grape juice or apple juice may be added.
    Butters: Butters are made from pureed fruit. They are not as sweet as preserves, jams, or jellies but offer a full fruit flavor. Butters tend to be dark because of the exposure to air during the cooking.

    Eggsplanation:
    Sunny Side up = Fried Eggs not flipped at all for a short while, whites fully cooked but yolk remains runny (the yolk looks like the sun appearing from clouds)
    Over Easy = Fried Eggs flipped for a short while, whites not fully solid and runny yolk
    Over Medium = Fried Eggs flipped over for a short while, whites fully cooked but yolk remains runny
    Over Hard = Fried Eggs flipped over for longer in order to fully cook the whites AND yolk

    You had it reversed. Nashville is a city in the state of Tennessee. Nashville is the capital of country music. Sunny side up is a way to cook a fried egg. If you crack the egg in the pan and let it fry like that. It resembles a sun in the clouds. So it's "sunny side up" egg. If you flip the egg over once so that the yolk touches the pan, it's "over easy". If you flip it twice it's "over medium" and the yolk is partially hardened, and if you cook it long enough to harden the yolk, then it's "over hard". Country fried steak is steak, and it's not a sauce, it's gravy, and in my opinion it's integral to the dish. That was not too much gravy. A country fried steak is a cube steak (a very tenderized steak that is fairly thin). They batter it and fry it.

  • @seaofwhiskey
    @seaofwhiskey 20 дней назад +1

    Chicken fried steak and country fried steak are practically the same thing. It's steak tenderized by pounding it. Then breaded and deep-fried like a fried chicken. Hence "chicken-fried". Some people make a distinction based on chicken-fried being served with white gravy with a seasoned breading, and country-fried using brown gravy with an unseasoned breading. But most people don't really seem to make this distinction anymore, as breading seasoning and gravy types gets mixed and matched a lot.

    Here in the US we order our eggs just the way we like them. Sunny side up is fried and NOT flipped and the white over the yolk is still runny. Over easy is fried then flipped so the whites on top of the egg yolk is set but the yolk is completely runny. Over medium is fried, flipped and cooked till the yolk is between runny and completely solid. Over hard is fried and flipped and cooked till the yolk is completely hard (like it was hard boiled. Then there is scrambled, scrambled easy or scrambled hard, there is hard boiled and poached. We never, ever just order an egg, we always specify how and to what degree we want our egg cooked.

    chicken fried steak is cube steak that is breaded and shallow fried in the same way fried chicken is done, hence the name. the white gravy on top is country gravy which is made the same way as sausage gravy minus the bits of sausage throughout and with more black pepper. the gravy is in essence a bechamel made with lard and heavily seasoned with black pepper. cube steak is typically top round or top sirloin steak that has been mechanically tenderized and flattened. the more country gravy you have on a chicken fried steak the better!

      You forgot basted eggs (hot bacon grease spooned over the egg as it's cooking so the top is cooked) and steamed eggs (a teaspoon or more of water and then lid put on the skillet, which then steams the eggs!!! I do love my basted eggs, but my husband prefers his steamed. And can you imagine my older sister hating eggs in ANY shape, form or fashion? I swear she's adopted. 🤣🤣🤣🥚🥚🥚

    The "chicken fried" description is stating that the steak is fried with a crust like chicken. It is steak that is prepared like you would fried chicken. Battered or just floured.

    You might hear fried steak called "country-fried steak" or "chicken-fired steak." It's the same thing. It's beef steak breaded and fried the same way you would fry chicken, hence "chicken-fried."
    And a think layer of white gravy should absolutely cover the entire thing!

    "Sunny side up" means that they don't flip the egg when they fry it. It means, extra runny. Most people really prefer "over easy". Also, the sign says homemade biscuits; a biscuit has 3 ingredients; they probably got them there. Country fired steak = southern fried steak = chicken fried steak, they are all different names for the same thing. It's a cheap steak (sometimes a cube steak) fried like southern fried chicken. If you've had one, you already know that he loved it. The gravy is a must and you gotta cover everything with it.
    Also, I'd bet that any country that biscuits aren't popular has a ripe opportunity for a business making them. They're one of the best foods ever and they are very simple to make. Pair them with jam or country sausage gravy. Forget about it. Grits OTOH, can stay in the US. It's an acquired taste as the name implies. Personally, I'm not a huge fan.

    It is thought that Fried steak came from the German Schnitzel. A cheap piece of beef is pounded flat and the pounding helps tenderize the tough meat. Then the meat is battered and fried just like chicken.

    The town of Lamesa, Texas, is the birthplace of chicken-fried steak, and even hosts an annual celebration of the dish. Chicken-fried steak is the more popular over country-fried steak in Texas. The cream gravy is a must on chicken fried steak. It's impossible to put too much cream gravy on a chicken fried steak. It's always going to be awesome. Chicken fried steak is beef. It's just a tenderized beef steak breaded and fried like southern fried chicken. Hence the name.

    basically chicken fried steak (aka country fried steak) was created by german immigrants trying to make weiner schnitzel. weiner schnitzel is veal and veal isn't very common in the states so they switched to a tenderized cut of beef instead.

    If you want more taste testing video ideas, buttermilk biscuits and country gravy are very easy to make! Basically just copious amount of flour, buttermilk, and butter along with breakfast sausage and a ton of black pepper for the country gravy. Very easy recipes to follow along with and some pretty universal ingredients!

You could start with our best, in my opinion, Silver Dollar City. 🎉 I know you love history and all things country and this park gives you that. Its set in the heart of the Ozarks and takes you back in time to the 1800's. Oh, and it has Amazing food too, if youre in to that kind of thing 😂

    Chicken fried steak is beef. And gravy on it is a must. Sunny side up refers to the egg being cooked on one side with the yoke still runny. The white of the egg is cooked all the way through. Grits are made from corn. And you can put salt or sugar on them, it’s up to you. But there are some places in the south that will serve them already salted. So, ask for unsalted grits if you are not sure how they serve them. They won’t mind you asking or requesting unsalted grits. Hash browns usually don’t have cheese on them. I believe he had the hash brown casserole. Which does have cheese. Anyway, great video. 🤠👍🇨🇱
