Bookish Theories on the other hand is also another channel I'd like to recommend, cause if there's a BTS Music Video or a song that has lots of reference from classic literature, books, BTS past songs, events, paintings, etc. that you guys simply can't comprehend, that chanel is a nice place to go.
For example of this are: BTS Blood, Sweat and Tears, Fake Love, Dionysus, Black Swan, Shadow, etc.

Also, the more i learn about what the band went through the more impressed i am with them surviving and thriving. In suga's recent interview with j-hope they talked about how at one point the company was so poor that they were going to go under and told the boys to move out of their little one room dorm. Suga said the band members didn’t have any money to even find somewhere to go so they refused to leave. Poor kids. 😢
That’s actually really sad. See stories like that is what makes me root for them even more.

You are absolutely right - the lyrics and wordplay in it is genius. Every language has its beauty and differences. My son speaks 5 languages - French, Spanish, English, Bulgarian and Russian...My niece - Japanese, English and Bulgarian. I don't have much knowledge myself, learning a new language is a difficult process for me, but the Korean language amazes me. It is so melodious and beautiful. When I started watching the explanatory videos, then the complexity of the hidden meaning amazed me, and that's what drew me even more to BTS's work. So many messages!

BTS is not for lazy people. Almost every video has a website or video breaking down the meaning of everything going on. It's a fascinating culture and you'll find yourself falling down the rabbit hole in no time if you really invest the time it takes to wrap your head around how deep this group really is. This performance is just fot fun actually. Cause Ddaeng is a rapline song but in there they performed the song as a whole group. I mean with vocal line. And rapline did only hook. But its so funny too

@@TripTipsPodcast no its not important that much but ı think you should listen original version too cause rap line really did great job to deliver the song especially RM. But because of this is a gift song from them, there is no official music video or audio but you can listen colorcoded video from youtube or you can find the only official track for soundcloud. But yt is easier. You can also see who is rapping witch part thanks to colorcoded videos. Have a good day 💜
idols in general where supposed to be literally idolised like gods in south korea. they were treated like perfect figures who everyone worshipped. they were supposed to maintain this image of im above everyone else but BTS changed that completely. for me they are like best friends when they off stage and completely mesmerising performers while on stage. JK in his recent live was talking abt how he wants to be best friends with armys and were saying like if u meet me outside just be like WHATS UP BUDDY . they are really just amazing people
Oh I love that they chose to do this as a reversed version (where the singers did the rappers' parts) for laughs at their Muster (which is a fan gathering that has turned into a large concert-like vibe, but where they do sketches, have fun with ARMY, and mainly perform all their b-sides - which ARMY of course knows by hand). You'd love the original!
It's a pleasure to watch your reaction videos. I would LOOOOVE to see you react to the explanation videos in the future. They are all very different. Some of them might have some references to other of their works, but you will enjoy it none the less.
I like that you enjoy the songs where they talk abt their haters more bc you know more of their story, I feel the same, there’s actually 3 themes that I really like in their songs, the other 2 are them singing abt their efforts and journey, and them singing abt their relationship with army and how thankful they are for armys support and the relationship we built.
For those I recommend “Run BTS” and “We are bulletproof: the eternal” (which is a nod to their first title song “we are bulletproof pt 2”) respectively. And in case you guys don’t remember the B in BTS is Bangtan which literally means bulletproof and is heavily used in these songs.

Daechwita lyrics shows how SUGA is a genius. It has deeper references from Korean history. Ugh is the same as ddaeng the wordplay is fun.

Just started watching. This live was when the vocalists took over for the rappers for most of it. It is usually just RM, Suga and J-Hope performing it, but I love this version! I'm glad you watched the DKDKTV explanation video. There isn't one of those for every song, but he does have one for Idol and a few others. RM is the poet in the group, then Suga and J-Hope are also fabulous song writers. Though the vocalists also write songs, they often (though not always) get help from one or more of the 3 rap line. A lot of their songs are deep, but they don't all have the word play as much as this one does. Spring Day also needs an explanation video, but highly suggest the one by Italian ARMY for that one.

This is what I truly, truly love about this fandom... bilingual ARMY actually helps those who don't speak Korean but translating and explaining the meaning and intentions behind BTS songs! DKDKTV does a wonderful job of explaining some of BTS' iconic songs. Allowing us to appreciate even more what lyrical geniuses these boys are especially the Rap Line! Borahae!

I always loved this performance even though we don't get the awesome skill of the rappers. It still has a lot of fun energy and pretty adorable seeing some of the vocal line trying to rap. So funny. Jin rapping is always a good time. Lol 😂 fun reaction.

I don't know if DKDKTV has explanations for every video, but Bookish Theories is another great channel that does in-depth analyses of their music videos. Bookish Theories will give you a lot of appreciaton for the astounding attention to detail and artistry that goes into the MVs.

There are lots of songs that make sooooo much more sense after watching an explainer video. I am a huge fan of explainer information. I also loved your comments about them being humble. JK just did a v live this week where he was very real and honest with army telling them that he wants to even have a closer relationship with them more like friends. But he said friendship goes both direction and fans need to accept that he is an adult now and to accept his personal and creative decisions.
Ddaeng is a great example of one of their "explanation video is a must" songs and DKDKTV definitely has great explanations for a lot of BTS songs. HOWEVER a few other channels come into play as the more recognised explanations for certain songs so these are some of my suggestions:

Oh this particular performance is where the Vocal line did took over the Rap line so Jimin, V, Jin and Jungkook all took turns to do RM, Suga and J Hope's Rap line.. The Rappers coached them and seemed really proud at how well the Vocal line managed to perform RM, Suga and J Hope's Rap lines.

wauw i am amazed at how much you understand about BTS so far and is willing to learn. and what makes BTS special as something they said themself. is that non of them has that ego of wanting to better and outshine the other members. they all have their own territory of skills and the other memeber don´t try to overstep the line. so they each bring a different skill to the group. witch means that if one member was to leave it would not be the same, they have a deep connection because of that.
also they come from humble backgrounds only Jin had parents with money. but except that they all was poor and grew up outside the big city.
in Seoul many idols come from rich families so it´s hard not to get influenced with the same mindset of the rich kids and change. BTS also work on staying as they are they keep telling themself that it´s army who made this happen for us we are actually not that special and even the staff who works for them and people who have met them say they are exactly like they are on camera very kind humble people. and that´s not the case for other groups.
BTS also never had any scandals in forms of dating rumors or drugs or anything like that. I study korean culture and from everything i have heard BTS is very much different and it makes me proud of them even more

The BTS journey is rich when you consider the lyricism and multi layered contexts. It’s always essential to look up the meaning and interpretations of BTS songs - at least many of the Korean ones. Silver spoon also needs to be referenced. And Spring Day.

Most of their songs actually has explanation videos even the ones that you've already watched like DAECHWITA, boy with luv, etc.
Fun fact though, you could totally enjoy listening to BTS songs without needing to know the layers of the lyrics.
But with context it just hits different.

Now, for Spring Day watch the Spring Day Explained by the RUclips channel Italian Army. It’s in Italian, and has English subtitles, but it shows better video of the tragedy so we understand the full power better. If you have kids, prepare to get emotional.

I highly recommend checking out the DKDKTV explanation for Daechwita. I know you have already watched the MV but there's a lot of stuff you have missed as the song contains some Korean historical references. There's also a fun Daechwita live performance with all 7 members that they performed for the 8th Muster concert.

DKDKTV is the go to for most of BTS song explained but not for Daechwita. Bookish theories did a better and more accurate job on that song. So fully recommend to check Bookish theories for Daechwita explained instead.

Love your reactions and discussion as the videos progress. This is such a fire song. Obviously you've been told it isn't usually done by the vocal line, but they slayed it! Jin rapping always on point for a good laugh. He really did his best here. I wish JK rapped more. He is the only one that could do RM's part, imo. The rapline kills it fr. DKDKTV is such a great reference Danny and David do such an amazing job! It is awesome you guys took the time to learn what they are talking about it. UGH is another awesome song that would benefit from a DKDKTV explanation. Every time I hear Jin rap, I keep remembering his version of Suga’s Nevermind. We call him Rap Jin 😂 You can search for their skit in their 2017 anniversary party (a fanmeeting) for fun. Suga and Jin, who had been roommates for a while, performed each other’s song. It was hilarious. You can search Nevermind & Awake by SIN, it should show you the video. No need to react, just watch for your own entertainment. You’ll probably get copyrighted with that anyway 😅

General recommendation - for any new-to-you song, please listen to the album version first, either the official music video or a lyric video if there isn't an MV. Live performances can be tricky - the sound is often muddy/not clear/echo-y/has feedback. Or, in this case, it could be a total spoof! 😅
We don’t preview the songs or lyrics prior to reacting to them. We want our reactions to be genuine and unrehearsed.

@@TripTipsPodcastOP is saying maybe you should react to the studio version first then add a live performance to the same reaction. With live concert performances it's hard to hear cadence and flow because the audio is not great and the audience audio is mixed in too.
@@nuhkyah23 Yes, thank you - that is what I meant. Please react to the studio version first. That way you hear the original song in full (and with full clarity). Also, they often remix songs for live performances so they might sound totally different from the studio one. As for whether to watch a live in the same video or not, that's up to you (the reactors), can combine or do a separate vid. 🙂

The stutter part is one of my faves. It references how some who hated on them when they were small later came to say hi to them but stuttered bc now they were huge. One thing to keep in mind with western rap versus Korean rap is that I find western rap to in your face diss you in a savage way. And us with western taste look for that in Korean rap. But they don’t really rap that way, their lyrics are very multi layered and not so blatant, it’s much more subtle disses.

Not all of BTS' songs needs explanation like this. Getting a basic lyric translation will give you most songs. The songs DKDKTV break down are the ones that have HUGE Korean cultural aspects like Ddaeng, Baepsae, Idol, Spine Breaker and Daechwita.

This is a very fun version for ARMY but it is not the original performance video which was just the three rappers. That one is well worth the watch also.

I kinda wish you did the rapline performance to do the song justice, this one was just for fun - so you didn't get to see Suga and JHope go off. The rapline killed this, and it was a free soundcloud release - imagine releasing such a quality song as a free gift for ARMY. I stan their love and dedication to music and appreciation for their fans.

I don't know if you still read comments but to your point about what sets BTS apart, what the West knows as "K-pop" is the idol industry in South Korea and people often end up thinking that since BTS are authentic, every other idol is, too - which is not the case. They have a very strict and corporate public image that is somewhat built on their real personalities but heavily vetted by managers and CEOs. Most idols don't necessarily portray themselves, rather a brand that a corporation created for them to sell. They are, in short, influencers (this is why a lot of idols get booted from groups the moment a scandal tarnishes their public image, regardless if it's truth or not).
BTS' image stems from them blogging, vlogging and writing their own lyrics, meaning, the brand is their authenticity which includes being humble, respectful and proud Korean men - but also messing up and apologizing at times. People can identify with them, people don't identify with idols, they exist to be better than you and make you feel better for liking somebody elevated, a superhuman. That's how you can really separate a K-pop fan from an ARMY; a K-pop fan will say that they like an idol because they're prettier or more talented than anybody else. An ARMY will say they ride for BTS because they provide comfort and healing words that brings joy and something good into the world.
In terms of explanation videos, Bookish Theories has quite a few which deal with the underlying abstract ideas, literary references and psychological concepts of lyrics and music videos. They talks a tiny bit fast at times but people seem to enjoy their expert breakdowns.

I highly recommend watching Suga's 'Daechwita' mv and then the DKDKTV explained. DKDKTV has several explained videos for BTS and they are usually a must-watch for non-Koreans. The more you dive into the BTS catalog and get to know them, you soon realize they are teaching you lessons about things you've never even thought about...

When reacting to a BTS track for the first time I would always go with the album version before doing a live.
BTS are best live but depending on the version you click on they are not always the best quality and it can be hard to hear over the crowd. This is a joke performance with the vocal line rapping.💜

When the Korean alphabet is Romanized there are a few letters that will occasionally be doubled, it's because in Korean those letters are pronounced stronger. So unless you see a space, just read the letter as normal. So D Daeng would be D first than Daeng, but DDaeng is just a much stronger and faster sounding D.

@@TripTipsPodcast the explanation video is worth watching first. The MV is like a movie. All BTS MVs are like works of art. They put in the hours of practice and it shows too. They feel they have to get things perfect for army to thank us for our love and support. I don't want them to feel like that, they have already achieved perfection. As you mentioned in your other reactions this is what sets BTS apart from all the others. Something you may be interested in nothing BTS do is ever coincidental there will be a thread in a song that can be linked to a song from way back in their discography. There's a figure in some of their videos that appears too. They are extremely talented beyond and very smart too.

Hi guys - just FYI your video skipped at 13:00 (when DKDTV said "the end, Mic drop) and then the video and audio were out of synch and therefore so were your reactions. Didn't matter because I'm sure I'm not the only ARMY that knows the explanation off by heart, but I just thought you'd like to know.
