- With the destruction of planet Tek, the sole survivor, princess Tekla accompanied by Voxx travels to another system to warn all planets about the Beast Invaders. She crash lands on planet Ice where a quarrel between the Royal legion of King Cryos confronts a Rock expeditionary mining squad, including Graveheart. A Beast cohort launches a full-scale attack and only the Ice sovereign, Graveheart and a convalescent Tekla survive the first purge. King Cryos and his aides heal their former adversary and welcome Graveheart in joining the Alliance. Meanwhile, the Beast Armada invades the system and begins preparations.
It hurts to see a very underrated series incomplete, this needed a conclusion.

I really wanted to see a third season as well, and they would have continued if the toyline didn't back out.
However, thinking about it as an adult now... the way it ended actually ends up being a fitting (and dark) conclusion that leaves a lingering dread.
It implies that, despite their temporary "victory," the Beast Planet is unstoppable and is just going to continue devouring world after world.
It's a bleak ending.
I revisit Shadow Raiders every few years. I loved this series so much when I was little. Everytime I watch it, although it has many childish aspects, it becomes more solemn and mature for me as I grasp more in life.
Its a grim and dark story with a relentless unbeatable enemy. No respite, no mercy. Only death. Only brotherhood.
The animation sure is dated compared to today, but this, Beast Wars and Reboot were a wild ride. The good old days, never to be seen again.
The writing and characters hold it up. I feel a show like this could really hold its on Netflix

I still love the animation on all these mainframe shows. Its gorgeous! I really wish this show would get a bluray release.
@@GreenEagle34 The writing is nothing to be singing praises about. In fact there's a lot of stupid in this show. The only thing that holds it up is the premise, the interesting and mysterious main villain and the few memorable characters.

I remember watching this, Beast Wars, Spiderman etc every saturday morning when I was a kid. Like 2 hours worth of awesome cartoons. Beast Wars was my favorite though, those writers knew how to make interesting characters.

My son, it was 7 years old, and we enjoyed this show, like Reboot and others. Great characters and good message about doing the right thing. There's nothing like that today... mmm!!
When 1 pilot episode from the 90s has more substance and creativity than the entire modern Disney network combined.
Shadow Raiders has more Star Wars fellings in itself than Disney Star Wars would ever imagine

Shadow Raiders was fantastic, but a claim like that is just pure nostalgia.
These days substance and creativity are called "weird" and "trying too hard".
They don't make shows like the used too. An amazingly crafted story made with heart.
I appreciate that Graveheart isn't proud of having to raid for resources, but he acknowledges they're not doing it to be dicks but that they do it survive. No one likes to be raided, but they all have to raid to get what they need to survive since they've never had peace between them.
The voice acting and dialogue in this show was amazing. Almost theatrical and epic in it's presentation. But then the story itself is a very grandiose narrative, makes sense the voice acting would follow that
And we got big guns like Paul Dobson among the cast to help deliver a great performance!

i was so hyped as a kid when the intro played.
It's surprising how well the CGI in this series has held up.
So much of this reminds me of Babylon 5: The font used in the credits, the mood and sense of the soundtrack, and overarching theme.
Putting aside your differences to fight a common enemy. A lesson for all.
Despite their Honor and Pride, Teamwork, Friendship, It's the only way.
This is basically Mass Effect before Mass Effect.
More like StarCraft meets Battlestar Galactica and Battlefield earth. The animation looks good for 1998.

I started watching this series a month ago and it's really good. I never saw this show when it originally aired (I only watched ReBoot and Transformers (Beast Wars in particular)). After I started watching this, it quickly became one of my favorite CGI animated shows. I noticed some voice actors from Exosquad, Street Sharks, Skysurfer Strike Force and G.I. Joe Extreme were in this show.
Overall, this is such a great series.
I've never watched Shadow Raiders. This is the first time I have watched it. The first episode is good. It reminds me of Beast Wars and Battlestar Galactica.

This takes me back
For the majority of ALL human generations... We are the lucky few to have grown up as children in the electrical age of television.
Primate to sapiens and from tribes to egypt and rome, no human born back then grew up with television. games, and those powerful media's... supermarket foods and drinks. school and jobs for parents. no one ever had to go hunting, fishing, cars everywhere. cellphones.
I saw shadow raiders some good 20 years ago... and now that i think of it. for the past 20 years science fiction played a pretty cool role in my life!. Playing games like mass effect, alien isolation, dead space, space marine, dawn of war 1-2, It's like i've been watching and playing shadow raiders for a long time xD. Starship troopers, godzilla, alien abduction/ invasion movies, documentaries, games xD. the whole works.
Graveheart's ETERNAL Epic Line: "I'm just a Miner" (Since 1998)

Underappreciated series that far outshone the toyline it was based on. Mainframe made great shows in the 90s. Focusing on story and character Reboot, Beast Wars and Shadow Raiders stood above episodic shows of the time.
I'm a diehard Transformers and Beast Wars fan. That said, War Planets was the best show Mainframe ever produced. I'm so glad I bought the DVD volumes back in 2001.
The story is still so convincing that it stacks up(IMO) to even the best current shows. I loved this show when I was a kid! I'd forgotten that it gotten cancelled prematurely.

Loved this show. Spent far too much money to buy it on DVD from ADVision back in the day, but it was worth it. A few thoughts:
1) Still love the opening theme after all these years.
2) Graveheart is one BAMF. Love when he shows up with the massive sonic cannon.
3) She's not in this episode, but I absolutely love Jade. She's voiced by Enuka Okuma, who you can see on Rookie Blue as Tracy Nash.
Man there's so many symbolic scenes in just the first episode . Rock and Ice firing together on their common foe.
Been looking for this show for nearly 20 years. I remember watching it as a kid, but I couldn't remember the name of it. I searched and searched on Google to look at old kids shows on Fox Kids and UPN. But turned out I was looking in the wrong places as this was aired on the WB. Didn't remember that. All I could remember was some planet getting destroyed and this girl getting launched into space to spread the word that some evil thing was coming. Now that I've finally found the show I know I wasn't crazy and didn't just invent these memories in my mind. It's like scratching an itch you've had for 20 years. Geezus this looks worse than I remember!

I couldn't remember the name either. But I knew that the same voice actor did Rockhound, and Enzo (grown up) from Reboot. Wasn't too long a search on imdb.

Loved this show, recorded almost every episode on VHS but missed 2 or 3 and I was absolutely gutted, thanks a lot for these. One of the best animated series I've ever watched, shame they didn't continue on with the series.
I wish I could meet the creators and tell them what an amazing job they did. I hope they truly are proud of their work.

one of the best tv series i ever seen as a kid because at the time it was killing people and so the stakes were high per episode. And with a bad guy planet that ate other planets and had ate plenty of planets before the final episode the idea at the time amongst kids was that this would lead into some epic final battles. But they just never materialized. Which is such a shame. Everyone i knew watched this on friday morning before school. 7am was worth getting up for with this and Roughnecks: The Starship Troopers Chronicles before school.
Lol I came here for the animation from the 90s, but the ad before the video was for a video game, super high def, and it was an ad to say it was a remastered port, so those HD graphics are OLD NOW TOO! Wow. Now back to the early days.
My God! I remember but forgot about it until seeing a post on Facebook. So this show got canceled after one season? Which sucks because I loved what I got to see of it. It was so good.
In the first episode we have a planet that eats other planets, and a BFG equivalent used to save the day. No wonder I loved this show as a kid.
I'm impressed with how well the animation, and some of the themes have help up.

Considering this was probably the pilot for the show, wow, what a first episode, it packed a whallop when I first watched it way back. Some of it seems a little cliche or farfetched but not for a children's show. For a Childrens show, it tackled a lot of adult themes, at least, it felt mature and cool for me as a young boy growing up in the 90s. I loved this show and the toys so goddamn much.
Just ordered all the dvds. Physical media will reign supreme
The series begins and ends with the doomsdays of other worlds. This is, by far, Mainframe's darkest show.
It's a shame that they couldn't continue with a third season. I certainly won't forget this gem.

This is what waking up at 6 am on a Saturday morning was all about… shows like this.
I always had a head canon with this one. "You call it The Beast. We had another name for it: Unicron."
I wish there was season 3. I want to know the ending of this series. Two great shows: Beast Wars and Shadow Raiders!

You can't deny the charm of 90's CGI shows. Now they look too much otherworldly... and so back then they looked out of this world. Graphics, design, animation, it looks very alien-like and i love it.
Modern CGI shows all look much softer, cleaner and just like Pixar Cartoons. It's sad that modern CGI movies and cartoons don't try to do something gritty and alien-like. Modern kids don't like computer graphics that just scream "Yep, this is CGI", as it ruins their "immersion", but in 90's it was the whole point, it should look very different from normal 2D Animation.
Great show! Best watched in 2024 at 1.25 playback speed when things move a bit faster nowadays
This show was some of the best written, best animated, best deserving of a next season…. It’s a shame that this show was far superior than the toys themselves. Please, someone bring this epic and original show back to life. To hell with the toys, just the show.

I searched ‘Aliens with Crystal Hair Cartoon’, ‘Past Cartoons Lists’ and finally ‘Planet Engine Cartoon’ and I got it. The theme was an awesome tune when I was younger.

The animation definitely shows it's age, but the story is still good enough to make up for it animation...
The animation can always be improved upon, just look at EA's games
But without good writing and story it would be crap, again just look at EA

I first saw this on an awesome cartoon compilation DVD from a local library, and really got into it. Other classics to check out include Inhumanoids and Bucky 'O' Hare and the Toad Wars.

2018 here. How I remember how this show blew me away as a kid
I remember watching this with my father and brother in ~2003. Compared to the garbage children watch nowadays, this is a masterpiece. Also, the animation reminds me of Ratchet and Clank.
