  • In ground sprinkler heads can easily become buried due to traffic, inactivity or the continual growth of grass and thatch which overtakes the sprinkler head.
Because my sprinkler had not been used for the last couple of seasons. it was necessary for me to dig up the spinkler heads and raise them back up to ground level to restore optimal function to the irrigation system. The process is simple with just a couple of precautions to keep the irrigation system functioning normally.
Sprinkler head locations are typically in a static location. If changes in landscaping can require new sprinkler head locations, this would involve a similar process. The task is simple. All that is needed are a few parts and tools.

To move the sprinkler head to a new location, it all begins with digging up the sprinkler head followed by slowly exposing the rubber irrigation hose that leads to the bottom of the sprinkler.
After you can see about 1 foot of hose, the hose needs to be cleaned off and carefully cut. Adding a new length of 1/2 inch irrigation hose and an elbow to the sprinkler head with enough length to reach the new location is all you need. Connect the new irrigation hose to the old hose with a connecting barb and you are ready to back fill the trench.

Was wondering if you put gravel under the sprinkler heads would that help prevent from having to raise them up again in a couple of years?
