2:01:00 "Perhaps my dreamcast isn't set to the right timezone..." I was under the impression that Swatch Internet Time was beyond such mortal concerns.
I have such fond memories of playing it on the Gamecube split-screen with friends.I never went online with it, but it's a blast as a cooperative experience.
When I was a kid I was obsessed with Half-Life, and I remember I lost my CD key for the original game so I couldnt reinstall. I emailed Valve. No less than Doug Lombardi himself sent me a new cd key no questions asked. It was the kind of thing that makes you respect the people at the company, and by extensiont he company itself. It's crazy that this is where Valve is now.
It took me a while to figure out EmuDeck since none of the tutorials that I could find goes through how to set up the Parsing, especially if you put EmuDeck on your microSD, it's parsing structure defaults as if you didn't do that. As a first time Linux user I was LOST until I clicked around enough to figure it out.
When it comes to use cases, the steam deck has been fantastic as a new dad. Being able to pick up and put down my games on the fly has been a major plus. Also, the classic family living room experience has been upgraded. I can stay with my fam instead of huddling away in my home office.
I use pcsx2 on retroarch for a few games like tekken since it has better input response over there. Other than that I would recommend using the standalone version most of the time. Retroarch pcsx2 is unstable, especially when you switch from game to game.
It's early days for emulation on on the SD and much room for improvement. Owning a Retroid Pocket 2+ and a Miyoo Mini the community firware/OS are just fantastic. In out of games, achievements, steaming from PC for all the harder to emulate systems. The "niche" handhelds been getting a lot of attention also in part thanks to the SD and thing are looking good for the handheld space that's not a Switch.
There might not be a more accurate representation of the Steam Deck than "Hey, check out this freaking awesome thing I got my Deck to do. Wait, it's not working. Let me google this a second..."
Jeff I'm watching at 144p on a cracked phone screen because I'm stealing my neighbors open wifi because my new SIM is being really funky and I'm trying to get Straight Talk to actually help me
A coworker gave me a ZOA and I told her as I was drinking it, that it was absolutely the worst energy drink I have ever tried. Long story short, she stopped coming to work after that day. My head canon is that it is from embarrassment.
So regarding the PS3 shaders... that doesn't happen on an actual PS3, so I assume something is being done differently on the original hardware. Can that behavior not be emulated as well?
Jeff how do you feel about physical vs digital nowadays? I have big steam library but all physical on ps4/5. And I am not sure if it’s a good move or not
I really appreciate/am here for the emulation steam deck content....I bought an microSD card but someone scared me about the process of putting roms on it since the deck runs Linux not windows...is figuring out roms only for pro gamers or should I keep trying?
For the SD card itself, if you're moving roms from Windows to Linux, make sure that the card is formatted in a file system that both OS's support. Use FAT32/EXFAT, not NTFS or ext4, which are the default file system formats for Windows and Linux respectively. Other than that, the SD card should show up on both systems like any other pluggable media device. As for the emulation, look up the thing that Jeff is using (EMUDeck), which basically handles installation and setup of everything for you, no sweat.
anyone know what the @764.45 number is at the bottom left of his stream is. The number keeps going up like a timer but its not one to one seconds...ive never seen that before.
Maybe he goes into it in this video as I’ve just started it but what is the benefit of using retroarch natively rather than the entire EMUDeck container?
As a general rule of thumb you shouldnt run anything above n64 emulation on retroarch. I try & keep it to the 32bit systems or lower(shaders make it worth it) Retroarch performance for gc/wii/ps2/ps3 etc is just shite. Your bonkers chosing it over dolphin ;). Core is less optimised & the extra frontend burns more battery.
The "software stuff" you talk about with regard to what still feels janky and unpolished about the steam deck is very much just life as a linux gamer, using open source tools. I switched to linux about 3 years ago, and was pretty blown away by how well things worked. When Sekiro worked perfectly on launch day, I was sold. Since then, stuff has been progressing at an astounding rate, and these days I'd say that 9/10 games on steam just work at launch. The tenth game might take some proton tweaking to get working (which Valve is getting better and better at handling for you), or something like anti cheat or an online component makes the game just not work at all. It's always wise to check ProtonDB before you make the purchase, though. Even stuff from the Epic Games store, Blizzard and GOG works great most of the time with Lutris. I can definitely see the Steam Deck 2 actually launching in stores for a general audience, if linux gaming continues to progress like this.
@@DenkyManner The only thing I feel like I'm really missing out on by not using Windows is Game Pass PC, but I'd have to use the Windows Store for that anyway so I'm not sure I'd bother with it even if I had access. 😂
Go for whatever size you feel you need, but make sure that the read/write speed, as well as the intended use case of the card is up to snuff. Look for ones marked for "Application Use", should have a small A1 or A2 logo on it. Those ones can handle the heavy use that running software puts on them far better than ones without the Application spec. SD cards will literally wear out and break over time as things get written to them, especially the cheaper ones.
I am almost sold on the Steam Deck just as a way to emulate NGPC with achievements, my needs are that specific lol Achievements may even help me understand Neo Pocket Kun more. I'm already excited to play For The Frog The Bell Tolls, the Japanese only, now fan-translated first party game whose engine got re-used for Link's Awakening.
Just paw-ping by to give a friendly "Hey meow" to all my fellow Yarnheads in Bubsy Nation.
I came very close to deleting this filth.
This man digs through frozen zoa slush to deliver us, the people, this quality gaming content. Jeff Gerstmann, the hero of our time.

I got my steam deck last week and I freaking love it!
Thanks for the video,Jeff
PS3 emulation is WAY smoother than I would have expected. That's actually insane.
mmm love me a good RPCS3, now on Steamy Deck
I've heard Jeff talk about this "Phantasy Star Online" thing for over a decade, and now I finally know what it looks like.
I have such fond memories of playing it on the Gamecube split-screen with friends.I never went online with it, but it's a blast as a cooperative experience.
I figured blood on the sand would be the first game tested.

Check out the battery settings during emulation. You can adjust power to make things run smoother in some cases.

Name a more iconic duo than Jeff Gerstmann and Bubsy, I'll wait.

Man that Neon White soundtrack is bangin'. Might have to get this game

That's me every single time I try to play any game on my PC
The last 5 minutes of a Vampire Survivors run can really chug. I suspect it's CPU related. Happens with mass projectile builds.

00:01 *Jeff is done with the last can of ZOA!!!*
Just got my confirmation email for my steam deck. I am the excite.
Man I really want a steam deck... Probably won't come to Australia until like 2030..
Also Jeff yes full playthrough of Syndecate please.
I saw the Bubsy 3D thumbnail and thought "My god man, what have you DONE!?"
A coworker gave me a ZOA and I told her as I was drinking it, that it was absolutely the worst energy drink I have ever tried. Long story short, she stopped coming to work after that day. My head canon is that it is from embarrassment.
Getting my deck tomorrow looking forward to messing around with the thing all weekend!

can you edit out all the technical issues at the start of streams please or put a link to when it actually starts

Saturn you say. I've been trying to emulate saturn on Deck to no avail. will check the master
Damn son where you find that
Now that the ZOA has ended, what the fuck am I supposed to look forward to anymore?

EmuDeck handles everything for you including managing and filing your ROMS

These Zoa ads are really selling me on it!
This is the first time I've seen Bubsy 3D -- AND HOLY FUCK IS THAT BAD.

Vampire Survivors? More like Vape Pirates: So High, Yargh!

Imagine how much poorer the world would be if Bubsy 3D didn't exist.
...define "poorer".
20:00 What is Firewatch?
Most importantly, does Skate 3 on the PS3 run well?
if your sidebar don't work, maybe it's time to start over?
Hard disagree about Mario sunshine, it's one of the best Mario games of all time in my opinion.
The old podcast when Dan argued to Jeff that sunshine is better than 64 was so good. Jeff was enraged lmao
@abcded and Astro's Playroom is up there challenging both games...
What is the timer on the bottom left ?

Valve seem to have finally broken the Windows monopoly. For years the only reason i used Windows was gaming.

Once you get it, you’ll have trouble sleeping. There’s so much to do. I have close to 300 games including emulated games. Steam deck is so dope!
Happy End of ZOA day!
What is the timer with an @ in the corner that goes up in seconds but isn't directly the time? I've seen it in a lot of the videos
