      Agree 100…..the Tacoma screams “hey guys look at me I’m shredded, after the gym I’m going overlanding”
      The Ford speaks “I’m here to do the things for this family”

    I drove a new XLT yesterday equipped much like the truck you reviewed. I was VERY impressed with it.
    One thing you didn’t mention is that it has 48.2” between the rear wheel wells in the bed. That means this midsize pickup is 4x8-friendly. You can lay plywood flat on the bed floor. You can’t do that with a Tacoma, Frontier, Colorado or a Canyon. This will make contractors very happy.
    I do wish it offered the fulltime 4WD found on the Raptor however, and the rear seat had a split-fold feature.

    In Australia we have survived with Ranger sized vehicles as family haulers and towing biggish boats and caravans. Some big US trucks are now being imported and converted to RH drive but are very expensive.

    I recently ordered an XLT as well. I really like the looks of the new Ranger much more than the previous model. Plus I liked being able to get the sand stone interior over all black. I think black sucks up all of the interior light and shows every spec of dust and hair you get on it. I ordered mine in velocity blue and the chrome package as I can't stand the look of solid black or dark colored rims. The only thing I don't like about the Ranger is no sunroof option and no rear vents. But I suppose the large front vents make up for that and I probably won't have back seat passengers that often.

    Great video Tim. I think with changes ford has made to this truck. I really think it makes a strong case for the right size truck buyer.
    I have a Ranger Raptor due to land at the dealer any day now, I sat in one a few weeks ago, I was very impressed.
    Not crazy about the loud red trim in the Raptor but loved everything else , enough I hunted one down over a 2-3 day hunting process, and put a deposit on it. It was built and going into transit at the time I locked it in.
    I am 100% with you push button start should be standard at this point.
    That grab handle for the left side I am sure exist, probably have to order it from an Australia ford dealer. I am betting the left side gets the grab handle on a right hand drive model . I don’t like using the steering wheel either, so I am tempted to look into what it would take to get the parts from down under, to put that left side grab handle in mine.

      I was watching an episode of 4WD 24-7, and one of the trucks had the plastic grab handle replaced with a braided grab handle/rope. I got an extra set of A-pillar panels for my truck so I could fiberglass some gauge pods onto them. When I removed the grab handle, it was just 2 bolts holding it on with a brass washer on one side and a brass insert for strength.

    • @HiPlains1
      @HiPlains1 9 дней назад

      IMO the Ranger is best in class. Unlike allot of stuff Ford makes the trucks at the wayne plant are pretty good. This new one is a bit wider with longer wheelbase. This means a usable back seat unlike the rest of the competition. And the back seat now folds all the way down which was a flaw of the original design. The new Tacomas are wildly overpriced. Think tons of hard plastics and it not as capable as this one with a back seat that is completely useless for adults. The Ranger will tow more. Basically a low trim SR5 cost as much as a this mid trim XLT. Toyota as lost their minds. The GM twins have too many electrical problems for my taste. I don't trust that oem with my money.

  • @gregoryjames7976

    @Pickup Truck Plus SUV Talk: Hi Tim. Have been a Ford fan boy my entire life and I like this truck but am having trouble with the exterior styling, it is so blah when compared to the competition. The rest of the truck is really solid although I don’t care for the hard buttons being so low with a screen that size. The back seat room seems larger than Tacoma, Colorado, etc. Having owned the 2.3 in my 2019 Ranger, I can tell you it is a strong engine and the highway fuel efficiency is good. All that being said, I am still torn and find myself looking at GM, Toyota, Nissan, Honda because the front end styling is just not for me… thanks for another great review.

    • @aerynlovell4754
      @aerynlovell4754 27 дней назад +1

      The easiest way to narrow down your choices is to figure out what you must have and what you hate. If you will be towing, then how much weight do you need to tow? Are you going offroad 60-90% of the time or not at all? I don't drive through mud or climb over rocks with my truck, so I wanted a 2WD. Last year, I found a 2016 GMC Canyon 2WD extended cab with a long box and a manual transmission. The price was good because most people want a crew cab 4x4 with an automatic transmission.

    • @wickedmainah950
      @wickedmainah950 23 дня назад

      After trying a xlt sport I'm buying the ranger. Tacoma rode a bit more plush but interior was tight. Bells and whistles pretty close to each other. Ford was almost 10g less. Power wise the ranger felt a bit more snappy also and does have heated seats. Funny they don't list it on window sticker.

    • @HiPlains1
      @HiPlains1 9 дней назад

      Toyota has completely lost their minds. Basically a base SR5 cost the same as a XLT with FX4 package. The tacoma is not competitive anymore. I mean they can have a bit of a toyota tax but they are pissing off their most loyal fans with the insane MSRP's. The tundra prices are just as bad and both are already piling up on lots. People are running to other brands for better deals. And the sad think is the taco is now made with cheap labor in Mexico.

    It is amusing to me that none of the reviewers who mention the keyed ignition know anyone who has driven away from home without their vehicle fob in their pocket, purse, whatever. My wife has had one friend and one customer who ended up stranded when she made the mistake of not actually having the fob secured. One customer drove away from our store having left her purse on the roof and lucked out that my wife saw her purse fall off the car. But because she had no key to enable her ignition she ended up stuck at her next stop with no way to start her vehicle and no cell phone. It got straightened out, lucky for her, but served as a serious reminder that there is a potential issue with having a keyless ignition. Like electric windows with no manual crank, super convenient until one fails in the down position. So technology is great but sometimes it creates new problems that never existed before.

    • @Dusdaddy
      @Dusdaddy 28 дней назад +1

      That's a pretty exaggerated worry. You could say the same thing about auto-locking hubs, electronic shifting transmissions/x-fer cases, etc. What if any of those failed when you really needed them? We could go back to all manual everything, and it would be reliable but never sell.

    I do like this new Ranger and I do like the appearance package on this model with the black door handles and mirrors. You're right Tim, perhaps we are being picky but it is 2024. So here are my complaints: At this price point you have to have rear vents for the A/C. Yes, on those really brutally hot days in the summer, especially in some parts of the country, they do make a difference. The configuration and the folding/stowage of the rear seats isn't the best. Why not make it a 60/40 split? The Ridgeline takes well deserved hate in some areas but the rear seat versatility, is one area where Honda has everyone else beat with their "Magic" seat design. Who doesn't want to be able to stow the rear seat one handed? When you use one these vehicles as an actual daily driver, all these "Little" things start to matter.

    • @jpaddy
      @jpaddy 26 дней назад +2

      The Rangers in Australia and SA have rear vents. With it being a global truck for Ford, one would think they would have it for the NA market. It's not a deal breaker with my ordered Raptor but if it's standard for the rest of the world, then shouldn't be an issue to make it standard here, especially just adding the actual parts to put in during production in Michigan.

      Its allot cheaper then a tacoma. Have you seen their prices? Basically you would have to buy a Off road to get to this level of trim and that would be pushing 55K. I’m no fan of Apple CarPlay, and I’m an iPhone user, but I’m seeing people just don’t know how to utilize tech features to its fullest. For example, Apple CarPlay is the reason you don’t need to touch your phone in the car. There’s even a better system out there but if I speak such a name some grown men get butthurt. Anyhow, today’s vehicles provide plenty of tech. Heck, you can even use voice commands for all your needs. Adapting to change can be hard and I do get it.

    The electronic fuel economy shown in most vehicles is usually about 2 miles per gallon better than actual. I’ve seen other utubers brag about the fuel economy they are seeing. Mike Morgan. Im not saying they are lying, just uninformed. Nevertheless, the new Rangers are nice trucks.

      The Ranger is one of Fords best trucks as far as reliability. Look it up. All the 2.7 eco and 3.0 engines blowing up were not suffered by the 2.3 eco here. This is probably the best build truck Ford makes. And the rest of the center stack etc... has been tested overseas for over a year. I'm pretty sure this will be a good truck on day one. Just like the 2019 was since that truck also was build overseas since 2012.

      Still has the same 2.3 ecoboost 10 speed and this same global truck has been in production overseas for over a year. Even the 2019 Ranger was a pretty reliable truck with few recalls because the same truck was made overseas since 2012. In fact they did have issues with this new global truck over a year ago. Just be glad that most of the problems were probably already worked out before they sold it here domestically. I think that was by design. Not the case with the GM twins. They had tons of electrical issues.

    Have 2.7 in 150 like to see how it does in Ranger. Sub 50k is good. Body style not so good. Like a full 6 ft bed with just an extended cab. Drive like a car, is a car with the lid off the trunk. Nissan has the body options. Ford may but I haven't seen them. The one world for everybody design. No

      So they say it looks like the F-150 on the front. Problem is I've never cared for the look of the F-150. However, the rest of the truck is best in class IMO. All is needed is an aftermarket grill. May be hard if it involves safety sensors. Its growing on me however. I first saw them driving around the Fiji Islands last Oct. They look pretty cool in person. They have been out over a year overseas. But they offer diesel motors in those markets. Wish they offered that domestically.

    I've dropped it from my list because I want the XLT trim for (cloth seats, nicer shifter, 17' wheels, and cheaper price). No heated steering wheel Is a deal killer. I would also like a sunroof. My new list is more money but that's ok I'm getting more things I want. The ranger I wanted was $47000. nice. I just can't bring myself to just get over it. As a protest I'm changing my brand. I can't rank them it changes day to day. I know I'll be paying more but at least it's my idea I'm not being forced to get crap I will hate is a non starter. F U Ford.
    Toyota Tacoma off-road ($55000 and everything I want w/sunroof, resale value, quality)
    Jeep gladiator willys ($54000 Way overkill off-road w/convertible)
    Chevy Colorado ZR2 ($52000 everything I want, killer off-road, w/sunroof)

    • @HiPlains1
      @HiPlains1 9 дней назад

      One thing I do like about the Ranger is the seats are very comfortable. Better then the rest IMO. And the back seat definitely the best in class for roominess. The T6 ranger always had great seats. I owned a 2014 XLT in Fiji and loved the truck. If your going to be spending allot of time with your truck or taking long trips the Ranger is the way to go. It really is that good IMO. No sunroof is a surprise. Thought they would have added it. I hear they are thinking about adding it on later. You do know the offroad is literally 10K more then this? You need to compare with a loaded lariat and it's going to be MUCH nicer then the Toy. This XLT prices out about the same as a base SR5. What I'm saying is Toyota has lost their minds with their pricing. They ain't worth that much. The TRD pro will cost 65-70K. Insanity.

      This compares to a toyota off road that MSRP's for 55K. At 45K it prices with the base SR5 POS. So its not the worst price wise. Its pretty competitive with GM/NIssan. But Toyota has completely lost their minds of late. They are asking way way too much for the new taco and many of their fan bois are leaving the brand. Facts.

    Bought a 1994 Ranger XL with a 3.0L engine. It was the biggest pile ever and had nothing but problems. Could have bought a Tacoma for about 1K more. Big mistake on my part. I swore never another Ford, ever. That said, every reviewer likes this new Ranger, and I’ve sat in the rear seat. It is amazingly roomy compared to the Tacoma. Just not sure of Ford quality. Definitely wait for the 2.7L, or Raptor for resale.

      The amount of money you save over the taco can get you a nice extended warranty out to 150k. That would be piece of mind you could never get with the same amount of money spent on a new taco. Also this well equipped ranger has 300 lbs of payload over the taco which have all been 1200lbs so far. If you need to do truck things the ranger is way more capable than a Tacoma.

    • @HiPlains1
      @HiPlains1 9 дней назад

      Base XL ranger goes for around 36K 2WD. You still have the same motor and 10 speed with that. Problem is everyone wants a loaded truck with all the gizmos. People like to compare truck prices from 15 years ago. Most of those are basically what a base Ranger XL is now. People complain they don't make basic trucks. I think you will find that Ford will start making more base models as most just can't afford the payments anymore on the loaded ones.

      All gas powered body on frames get crappy MPG's. Blame the feds for killing diesels on these mid sizes. Its the only way your going to get better MPG's. But people still want heavy body on frame trucks. It is what it is. If you want MPG's you have to settle for a light weight maverick with a uni body. Not very capable though.
