I was stationed at Ft. Lewis, Washington during the Vietnam War. We were a combat unit, the 3rd Armored Calvary, and we always thought we were going. But, we didn't. Lucky for me. That was some of the best days of my life, and some of the worst. Being in the Army was not fun, but we had some great times in the Tacoma, Seattle area. Remember the song? The Sky is Always Blue, in Seattle? Ha! All did while I was there was rain. But it was better than bullets flying... Another guy and I hiked almost to the top of Mt. Rainier. Much farther than we were supposed to go with out permission. I remember shuffling along a ledge where it was 500 feet straight down.. Scary!! Very beautiful there, though. I also remember looking out my barracks window and seeing Mt. Rainier, and thinking how lucky I was...

Thanks! And yes I would love to. Have you flown to Point Roberts? That has always seemed like an enticing stop on the tip of that peninsula.

Great video! I'm too old for heavy metal (give me Pat Metheny nowadays) but I loved it as a young buck. Having said that -- you have an excellent, controlled on-screen demeanor and voice. Congrats on your RUclips channel.
In this episode, you were flying amid my old stomping grounds. I grew up in Anacortes. I was hoping you guys would steer over there. Maybe another time? Anacortes these days is often called "The Martha's Vineyard of the Pacific Northwest," largely because it stagnated in the 1970's but then morphed into a cottage-industry town. A lot of money went there starting in the 1980's and property values soared. When you land there you'll need to catch a ride "into town" about 3 miles away. But there you can walk the downtown and experience marvelous restaurants, bistro cafes, breweries and a host of little shops. Sorry, no shopping malls.
In my youth I spent many hours airborne with Dad in his Piper J-3, then a Cub Cruiser, then a straight-tail Cessna 150, then a Beech Bonanza, finally a Skyhawk. I always preferred the roundwing planes. They have so much more soul. Looking forward to your explorations into the blue with your classic Aeronca Chief!

Glad you enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to doing more flying in Washington. Seems like endless places to explore up there. And yes, we need to meet up. My WA trip might not be until next year... so we just need to make a get together happen soon.
