Looks like your wife is extremely confident and comfortable in the cockpit. That’s awesome! I’ve flown with my wife a couple times, but each time she’s been very scared in the airplane. Very nice flight, and I definitely gotta put that on my list to visit! Take care, blue skies and tail winds!
Thank you for watching and for the comment Russ! She’s a good sport, the excitement of going somewhere outweighs the fear of being in a small GA plane lol
So glad you enjoyed your visit to the Bakery ❤️ My mom and dad started it in 1997 and I took it over in 2018. My dad and brother are pilots as well. Thoroughly enjoyed your video! Looking forward to your next visit. Christa Jones
Thank you for reaching out and thank you for having us! I had been looking for somewhere to go with my wife as our first flight together and your bakery was perfect. So glad we went, will definitely be back! Would love to meet and chat sometime. Thank you for watching!
As others have said, 'this reminds me of when' my wife and I were younger. We used to fly from Cedar Rapids up to Prairie Du Chien, and Cassville, WI. Eat dinner, and fly back after dark. It was always so beautiful! Sometimes we'd take our fold up bicycles to the Quad Cities and cycle down to the marina and look at boats. Once we landed at KMCI Moline airport. The Blue Angels were there. They parked my airplane right next to them!!! And we didn't have a camera. Those were great times. Savior them!
Brings back old memories of when I had my Cessna 180! My wife and I would do the same thing , land and walk to get something to eat . When I was getting my ratings back in 1969 you could land at Fort Morgan, it had a asphalt runway and a grass strip going across it. I later started fishing Chandeleur and Curlew Islands off the coast of Louisiana. That was the most fun times of my life!
My home airport is just across the bay, St. Elmo (2R5). Hit 12 a few times myself. :) The next time you go, try the The Islander Restaurant. It's a bit far to walk but if you call them they will send someone to pick you up and take you back to the airport free of charge. And the food is outstanding. Good video! Clear skies and tailwinds, sir!
That’s a great way to look at it! Lol It definitely is not the easiest landing. Really tests your skills. Nothing to block the wind out there. If you can land there, you can land anywhere!
I was at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab with my son probably 20 years ago. We went over to the airport to view the marshes nearby and had a great guide to explain how all of it worked. Amazing how the water is cleansed by the environment. I was wondering just how much usage the airport got. Thanks for a nice short video.
It’s a great place to visit! I’m glad you enjoyed the video! There doesn’t seem to be too much action over there during the winter months, but I bet it gets much more attention when it warms up.
Just came across your video. Welcome new pilot I have thought about making videos. I am always worried about saying something that would get me in trouble with the FAA. Like when you said you took your wife up to for night currency in the pattern. I am based at PIA. I love long trips long I have gotten weirds looks when I talk to a low time pilot about my long cross country lol. That is why we become a pilot lol. Look forward to seeing you grow as a pilot. I own a 1960 beechcraft Debonair.
Shout out Peoria, IL! My wife and I are originally from the Chicago suburbs. Great to hear from someone close to home. Welcome to the channel, thanks for watching and for the comment. And to be clear, I did my three laps for night currency solo and then brought my wife up for a fourth lap. So followed the rules :) My mother in law grew up outside of Springfield so it’s a dream/goal of ours to do a long XC and fly up there someday.
I lived about a block from that airport and bakery. Best cinnamon rolls in the south! Nice landing, it’s one of my favorite places to work the pattern.
This was pretty great. I'm hoping my wife and I can do more stuff like this. That runway was cool how it extends out into the water, I might have to check that one out someday, although probably quite a trip from VA, I also have a PA-28 but it's the Cherokee 140. Also I like your videography, I definitely took some notes!
Appreciate the kind words, thanks for the comment! I’ve had my license for a little over a year and this was the first time we’ve ever done anything like this, and used the plane for a purpose instead of just doing touch and goes. It was an awesome experience and so glad I got to share it with her. The Dauphin Island runway is super cool, but definitely tricky! As you saw, winds were very gusty that day. And thanks for the compliment on the video! Lots of RUclips watching and practice lol
Oh cool! Thanks for watching and for the comment. How’s Dauphin Island in the summer? That was our first time over there. Would love to go back when it’s nice and warm.
Very cool I have a 76 warrior with the same paint scheme. She’s white, with avacado green, and sky blue trim. Based at NC05 huntersville NC under the CLT bravo.
Very cool, they’re great planes to fly! I’m super happy I did my training and have started my aviation journey with the Piper Cherokee/Warrior. I’ve truly enjoyed it! Thanks for the comment. Hope you continue to follow along and watch.
Nice vid! The bakery owner is a friend and also a pilot himself. Check out the video I did of Dauphin Island and the Bakery. That approach over water is fun…especially with a cross wind like you had. Try a night landing too.
Oh awesome, I did not know that! I’ll have to ask for the owner next time we go. Thanks for the comment! And I’ll for sure go check out your video. Thanks for watching!
Yup! I'm his daughter in law and my husband's also a private pilot due to all the interest Daniel instilled about flying! He sent us this video this morning to watch! It's a fun family, fun place. Glad y'all enjoyed it! Sometimes he goes down to the airport and picks up fellow pilots and he'll talk your ear off and show you his tour of the island if you let him when he has time between all his bakery duties.
@@sscarcliff I love that! Glad you guys are sharing my videos. That makes me super happy. I’ll have to meet him sometime! Will have to let you guys know next time we fly over to DI.
Great video! Just did a touch and go at 4R9 on Saturday but need another stop at Lighthouse Bakery. Are you sure clearance / ground got your altitude and ATIS - lol. A couple of minor comments - I like to run my before takeoff check before calling tower at the runway end rather than run it rolling, if your landing light is LED I would leave it on the entire flight to make it easier for other planes to see you, good landing with the wind, when you chop the ailerons try to not chop past neutral (downwind side) which will help if you catch a gust. Hope to catch you airborne one of these day. Cheers
PNS to Dauphin Island was the second flight I did with my wife after I got my ppl, in 151. Absolutely one of the coolest things I’ve ever done. Lately I’ve been flying Cessnas out of Foley. It’s cheaper because you pretty much start up and take off, you don’t burn hardly any hobbs time on the ground taxiing or waiting to take off. For me at least it’s only a slightly longer drive than PNS.
Thanks for the comment. Thats good thinking! I’m going to start renting a plane out of Milton so hoping I have the same luck, can start up and get in the air quickly. More videos in a new plane coming soon. 👀
@ It really took me by surprise. When I did my rental checkout at Foley we took off, ran through the maneuvers (slow flight, steep turns, stalls) then went to Sonny Callahan and did seven touch and goes before returning to Foley. 1.1 on the hobbs. The same amount of work flying out of Pensacola would have been 1.7 easily. Great school, but the busy location definitely makes it a more expensive place to train.
I don’t doubt that! I’m excited to start flying out of Milton and seeing how that impacts things like you said. Cheaper plane, cheaper airport. Can’t wait!
Love flying the approach at Dauphin Island. It's sad you had to post that all checklist items are complete. I left that off of one of my videos and absolutely got roasted in the comments. It's like folks don't understand editing...anyways....Great Video!
Dauphin Island is definitely a tough one! I try to keep the run-up and checklist stuff in there sometimes, but I feel it gets repetitive if it’s in every video. I hope viewers understand the editing and know we’re always completing checklist items and flying safely. Thanks for watching!
Another $100.00 meal flight idea; Fly in to Foley, AL and Lambert's (home of the Throw'd Roll's) will pick you up at the airport, usher you in through the back door (avoiding the line) and take you back to the airport. (We never made it to that one but we did go to the one is Sikeston, MO many times when we were based out of KOLV.
Hi there, thanks for watching and thank you for the comment. Dauphin Island is pretty cool, neat and challenging little runway. Pensacola is great also, bigger controlled airport with commercial traffic if you’re used to flying in and out of smaller uncontrolled fields in the area. Stingray is the call sign assigned to the flight school where I rent the aircraft. So all of their planes are “Stingray” and then the tail number. Similar to the call signs the Navy aircraft use in the area. Hope you enjoyed!
@ thank you I assumed it was something like that. I fly a Piper Cherokee 160 out of Indiana. We have a homes in gulf shores. I’ve used Jack Edwards airport, but I’ve never phone into or out of Pensacola. Keep up the good work and be safe.
Hi there - thanks for watching and thanks for the comment. Someone already had mentioned this and there’s an easy explanation. I did my 3 laps for night currency solo, and then my wife jumped in for a fourth lap which is perfectly within the rules. I understand the way I said it could be a little misleading. But all rules and regs were followed!

Love landing (touch and goes ) at dauphin island. Especially coming in from the bay runway 12. I call it the aircraft carrier landing.

Yes it was! Not an easy landing by any means. Thanks for watching, hope you enjoyed.
Nice big box of pastries, Weight and balance okay on the return trip? :)
Wasn’t a problem, half of the pastries were in our bellies before we even took off 😂
