7hz Timeless Vs LETSHUOER S12 Planar Comparison
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 6 авг 2024
- Here is my take on the 7hz Timeless and the LETSHUOER S12. They both use planar drivers but there is a very, very small difference between in size.
They look similar on paper but the tuning in some ways is noticeably different.

Good comparison between Shuoer S12 and 7hz Timeless, I have the Shouer S12 and so far I'm liking them and have a great, wonderful, blessed, positive, productive and safe week and as well safe weekend
Glad you like it and thanks very much and the same goes for you.
@@VortexReviews1 I have a question when vents are sealed on the Shouer S12 does it change the sound quality?
@@ernest4483 I have never tried it personally but if you block the vents mainly the one on the inner part it increases the bass noticeably.
Don't know how I missed this review.....really nice.....simply and no BS...have both also and love them equally
Cheers fella and keep it up 👍
What if you only could keep one of them tho? (And let's say they were the same price, as it's easy to just keep the most expensive one)
Which one would you keep?
Thanks......good review.
Cheers.
They both seem to be good Planars. A good discussion would be what do Planars bring to the table. They do not have the 'impact' of many DD's but when listening to drums and bass strings, you can hear the qualities of the skins on drums and the bass strings sound way more realistic.
Always pros and cons with all driver types but a good point.
planar normally has faster sound than DD unless they have Beryllium....
I find just the clarity across the frequency spectrum is a big perk. No matter how much the bass is being driven, it never clouds the rest of the frequency range, it's all perfectly clear. For high bpm and busy music like drum and bass for example I find planars an extremely exciting listening experience
That’s old news. Good planars have now caught up in “impact”. But these chi fi garbage options are just that.
I JUST received the S12 from Amazon and I must say, the initial fit of the S12 was really nice until I was getting poked a bit and couldn't figure out why. But it's the 2pin connection that pokes me, which isn't the case with my Timeless. And as usual, at the end of the day, it comes down to tips. That's what keeps them in your ear hole... I feel the S12 is much more treblely and the mid bass is slightly more distinct on the S12 over the Timeless. But the Timeless to me, has a more overall balanced profile. And more bass and just more powerful. IMHO 😉
Thanks for the impressions 👍
Hi Vortex!
Which earphones are your absolutely favorite ones, that you could recommend?
Hi and I would say the Mangird Tea 2 from what I have.
Recently ordered the S12 for half the price of the Timeless. Look forward to getting them next week :)
Nice deal and hope you like it : )
useful video, thank you
Thanks for watching it.
It would be interesting to see how the S12, and planars in general, compare to DD's when it comes to ease of EQ'ing. I understand from others that the S12 is very receptive to effective EQ'ing, in particular the ability to enhance bass.
Planars EQ like a champ.
@@VortexReviews1 The S12 finally arrived today. Wow. These IEMs are incredible. Running it currently with a BTA30Pro (DAC mode) and Nakamichi SR-2E receiver (with Nelson Pass STASIS amp, c.1986). Plenty of power. Using the BASS adjustment on the receiver for now. Will do some PC tuning using Equalizer APO/Peace during the weekend. Gonna have some fun with these IEMs.
@@jb678901 Glad you like it and Planars are a beast when powered right 👌
I went for the Timeless because I preferred the sound, I found it more engaging and enjoyable than the s12. I also found the Timeless incredibly comfortable compared to my other in ears.
Those preferring a slightly drier more clinical sound might prefer the s12. If you like your mids and based then the 7hz Timeless.
I prefer the MMCX connectors as I have more MMCX cables (including 4.4mm). I have a couple of 2 pins- when I change the 2 pin cables I am more concerned that they're likely to bend than the MMCX.
Neither are brilliant with more complex, more emotive classical.
The other worth considering are the open back planar IEMs Raptgo Hook which does better in the mids than both of these.
Thanks for your impressions and these pair are quite decisive as it's very mixed on what people like. Hook X is a great pair indeed.
What other IEMs have you heard?
@@morespinach9832 ones that I own include the sennheiser ie600 (really nice contrast to the 7hz Timeless especially for complex classical), some very old (nearly 10 years old) quad driver shure 846s which fit my ears very well, are versatile (3m5mm cable, lightning, Bluetooth earhooks...). The 846s are very tough and can sound jaw droppingly intimate with the right nozzle and tips and conveying so much emotion in comparison to the Timeless and ie600. The 7hz Zero is very good for the price (and fits my ears well).
I've heard quite a few others from Sony, Etymotic, klipsch...There are lots I'd love to try like the Monarch mk 2, Elysian Diva, Zetian Wu, Rapt Go hook, Dunnu SA6, various other Moondrop and Campfire IEMs - to name a few. But they're not so easy to get hold of to try and to return without any problem.
I've also tried quite a few wireless ear buds, though the ones I use most often when out and about aren't the best sounding, nor the most expensive or have the most features: the Cambridge Audio Melomania 1+. They're great in the mids and for audio books etc and incredibly practical for me with the small size and small case - and I use them in the rain without worrying.
@@Andyhandle IE600 is fabulous although I think IE400 is the best one in that series - 95% of the sound quality at 60% of the price.
@@morespinach9832 for the sort of music I'm after and the gap with the other things I have the IE600s definitely the best for me (with hires lossless and uncompressed etc). And they are tough, very very tough!
And luckily sennheheiser are one of the brands I can get to listen to prior to purchase.
Hi , Nice review. I have the Tin P1. Any thoughts on comparisons? would the s12 be an upgrade? Thanks!
I have not tried the original P1 sorry but I know it's definitely easier to power.
i don't know about the shuoer but I have p1 and timeless. Timeless is leagues superior to the p1 and worth the upgrade
@@JustTryGambling Thanks! I ended up with the Shuoer. It is far superior to the P1 as well!
@@JustTryGambling Glad you like the Timeless.
Muse Hifi has entered the planar arena. Hope you get a set and review it.
I can try and ask.
I see people talking about EQing the bass on the S12. Can the treble on the S12 be EQ'd as well?
I never tried but I presume so.
If the treble is hot but the overall treble is the same volume, then you're likely looking at a resonance/ringing problem. Judging by the very clear shape overview you gave in the beginning, the frequency response graph, and the wavelength of that peak, I would wager what you're hearing is a resonance of the nozzle. The Timeless has a much less straight nozzle so it should resonate less? But I'm not privy to the specifics of shell design; not yet. In any case, just about anything irregular like a dot of earbud foam cover--if not much thinner--should suffice to break up the standing wave, at the expense of a little detail.
I'm not sure what you'd fill the nozzle with to break up the resonance but not generally affect the clarity of sound. Maybe something like a spring would work? It's an interesting problem.
Thanks for that insight and the EJ07m is another that seems to suffer from it and a Tanya filter seems to help.
I can confirm there's nothing in the S12 nozzle stock, it's just an empty tube. I found this having knocked off the grille accidentally changing tips, this is actually something you need to be a bit careful with as it's lightly glued on and it's also slightly smaller than the actual nozzle/support, so it's not quite contacting the support it's glued onto all the way around.
The Timeless by contrast has foam in the nozzle, and typically tuning foam will do exactly this, bring down the treble. I'd be interested to see someone measure both of them with the foam removed, and also, with the same foam in both, I wonder if they would be even closer.
@@blorg8206 Good idea and I presume they will measure very closely.
@@blorg8206 Ooh, the Timeless DOES have foam? That's amazing, that explains how they're avoiding the resonance much better. What does look like? Is it just a thin circular sheet?
Hi, can you measure the bore/nozzle size of the Shuoer S12? I can't find this information anywhere
5mm.
Between S12 and I3 Pro, which one is more suitable for EDM and also more "easier" to the ears?
I would say the i3 Pro
Good comparison thanks. I want to buy a planar IEM, I like more the standard look of the S12 and the 2 pins.
I listen mostly to rock and metal, would the treble of the S12 be too hot for those genres?
It may be a little hot for those.
@@VortexReviews1 better to avoid then, that's a shame.
@@perunaltravia You can always EQ but it might be fine for you.
No it would be brilliant 😉
@@daddychunk have you got them?
I'd also like you to review the Seeaudio Midnight.
I wasn't sent one unfortunately.
should people buy s12 over the timeless if the price is not much different? the timeless price droped to $170 including shipping at online store in my country. already own timeless btw. bought it few months ago with original prices. feel cheated but not regret cause the phenomenal sound of timeless.
if similar pricing then timeless( $10 difference imo). But, S12 can be had at $129 w/ early bird promo
If the pricing was similar then possibly. The higher price and MMCX is more off putting and they should make it cheaper to be competitive to the S12.
Great video but can you make a video about 8 core ofc cables or any other because i purchesed KZ EDX PRO and KZ ZSN PRO 1BA+1DD and i'm still waiting for but i wanna buy a cable and your reviews are legit so if you don't mind making a video like this this would really help Thank You and one more thing right now on Alliexpress the CCA C10 are on sale it would be like 22 $ is it worth it to get those ?
The CRA is a good one and the DQ6s. I probably won't do a cable video like that. Thanks as always for the support.
Cables don't affect sound quality, it's just aesthetics and handling. The old KZ braided cables tangled very easily, a better cable won't. Newer KZ cables are a lot better. If you are looking for a replacement cable, the 8 core cables from Yinyoo and NiceHCK are decent. KZ's own upgrade cables are also good quality. TRN is also OK, maybe not quite as nice but fine and may be cheaper. There is little point spending a lot on a cable for a $5-15 IEM, I would keep it to ~$10, and just be aware it's purely for aesthetics and feel.
@@blorg8206 Thank You this helps i did buy the TRN for almost 7 $ i'm new to this IEM craze wanted to buy the cca c10s but i think i'm gonna go with the cca c12 but thank you again for your help have a great sunday
In terms of resolution, which one is higher? Thanks!!!
They both resolve very well.
@@VortexReviews1 that's great news, because the Timeless is more resolving than most 500 dollars iems and even some 700, if the S12 is on par with it, it's a even more impressive for the price, thanks 👍
@@EduRB99 S12 is definitely a solid performer for the price.
Mmcx is such a deal breaker for me. It's unfortunate because I actually prefer the tuning of timeless. Not that they differ with s12 that much
You can either leave the cables attached or use adapters.
I have MMCX and 2 pin. I prefer MMCX as it seems more robust when fitting! It can rotate 360 deg unlike two pin and I found MMCX better for adjusting. But you won't go wrong with either.
I have some 8 year old MMCX earbuds which I swap between lightning, 3.5mm, 4.4mm, and Bluetooth ear hooks and they've lasted perfectly well. I'm not convinced my 2pin cables would have withstood that amount of changing!
Hey I want to upgrade from timeless to something laid back and relaxed under $600
Not tried many expensive ones to be honest but look at the JQ Audio ones and from what I have tried is the GS Audio GT12x and Hisenior Mega5p are smoother sounding sets.
Can you recommend a EIM for a price of 40 $ in 2022 ?
Possibly the CCA CRA or KZ DQ6S
Great review mate 👍
I also own both , and both are good.....BUT!!
I think the 7htz Timeless is CONSIDERABLY Superior!!!!!
People if you're deciding which one to buy, it's the 7htz timeless hands down.
You've just got to put up with that silly disc on the fit, but it's not a problem 😉
Thanks very much and good to see someone else with both units as well and it's always good to see other peoples experience with them.
@Vortex Reviews ❤
Sorry to jump on your vid 🙏
@@daddychunk No need to be sorry.
Is the 7hz for basshead compare to s12?
@@farhannik7039 They both can be basshead.
Shower made it really ez with that pricing.
I have to agree with that.
So which is better for films?
Both are good and comfort is important for those longer run times. S12 might edge it out.
which one is better if i use it with phone or pc and no dac?
They are better if you have a sufficient amp/dac unit and a phone won't do them justice.
How is the Bass on The LetShuoer if you plus the Bass +10 DB ?
A LOT lol. The driver can take it.

The 7hz went back 😂😂😂
Qudelix 5K & RME ADI 2 FS driving them and I preferred the S12 tonality for my catalog of music, the price didn’t make up my mind and Roon year subscription paid with the difference 👍.
The Timeless AE are that price and not the older one? I also sold my S12 and kept the S12 Pro and good idea getting a subscription with the money 👍
Ok, lets see...
Planars are great :)
I will have both next week,…💰😵💫🤷🏽♂️
Nice one and Planar models are getting more popular as 3 more got released since this video.
Which one do you prefer?
@@karine9300 Timeless, hands down,….
@@prvtjy Thank you for your reply! Is there much difference between the two? I just ordered the S12 since it was $75 less than the Timeless, but now I'm wondering if I should've paid the extra $75 and went with the Timeless instead...
@@karine9300 Naw, you did right saving your 💵. Both are really good so you couldn’t go wrong with either. You might think the S12 are brighter but with nothing to compare them to, your ears should just adjust to them. If you really enjoy them, just stop there. If you listen to all the so-called experts online, you’ll be spending ridiculous amounts of money chasing perfection that basically does not exist. I’ve seen collections of multiple 2-3 thousand dollar IEM’s and those people still were not happy. Don’t be those people,….
Tape the inside holes on the S12 and the Bass will hit tighter and even the Treble gets brighter.....Niceeee !!!!
Indeed and they don't need any more treble.
People really need to include the isines in these comparisons because they obliterate any other planar iems.
Never tried any of the Audeze models but they need that dac for them to sound good.
From what I have read the tuning is really similar, it's rumored they use the same driver but the physical measurements are a little different.
Also people say that the S12 is a bit brighter, the 7hz have a bit of foam in the nozzle which tames the treble a bit.
It comes down if you are sensitive to treble or not.
Personally I got the 7hz and the kato and I ended up selling the 7hz because the katos are more fun for me. If I want technicality I have got my HD600 and the katos, for me personally offer a better experience but they are both great and redefine the price brackets they sit in.
As a comparison for 7hz and kato, the kato image better, the 7hz has greater technicalities and higher resolution but that's down to the planar. The kato are not as detailed but crisper in the high end.
I have a good few years of experience with hifi headphones/IEMs and from what I have found, a single DD that is amazingly tuned will outperform any EST, BA, planar or any mix of them. But a single DD is really hard to tune properly so the market is saturated by multiple driver setups.
I got the chance to borrow a pair of sennheiser IE600 a few months back and they blew me away, they are better than any IEM I have owned/tried and they punch up to DT1990/between HD600/HD800 territory and they are a single DD.
Что взять в дополнение к КАТО?) Заказал их...Хана будет почти одинакова?) Нужно что то разное с КАТО

Same driver…
You sure about that?
No hes not
@@antonzaitsev8411 Indeed. 14.2 and 14.8 are not the same.
I think s12 is a perfect example of hype train. people were saying it was an upgrade for less $ and way better soundstage. Seems the timeless is more balanced and s12 is not typical shuoer tuning. s12 seems more like a sidegrade
I agree but the S12 is more desirable due to it being cheaper, normal shape, 2 pin and better QC so far.
@@VortexReviews1 s12 seems like a decent choice if you don't mind the treble. but timeless owners should stay xD
also why is 2 pin more desirable than mmcx?
@@watermelon1221 there are a lot more options for cable upgrade?
@@NguyenHoang-horizon does not seem like a good reason or something to buy an iem over. mmcx is fine and probably more durable. they make plenty of aftermarket mmcx cables and cables don't improve sq, so really a moot point.
@@watermelon1221 yes it's not a deal breaker by any means but it's annoying if you already have a few high quality 2 pin cables lying around and can't use them.
that 8k -_-
Coupler resonance.
@@VortexReviews1 i guess planar ain't for me. a bit treble sensitive here
@@edwardelric8966 Fair enough.
I think kato is better overall than both!
You are probably right but I haven't tried it.
And you have a/b'ed Kato and timeless to come to that conclusion? Kato is a single DD, it's not going to hang with a planar in resolution and speed let's be honest.
Not really, unless you like the single DD timbre above everything else and don't care about superior planar technicalities.
S12 made the Timeless redundant.
They both have pros and cons. No losers in the video but the Timeless should be reduced to be competitive.
Both have slightly different tunings. So, the Timeless is not redundant at all. See Crinacle and Precogvision reviews to know the differences. Apart from this review that is.
Both suck. Highly unnatural sound with muddy mids for many songs. A 50 dollar Onkyo E700M which is out of production but can be found on eBay from decent sellers will trounce both of these overpriced pieces of garbage.
I wouldn't say they sound muddy? I do appreciate your thoughts though.
Do you even own them?
The S12 showed up yesterday..it needed 10-12 hrs of break in .
Was way way to bassy ..then it smoothed out.🫠
Glad you like it.
no such thing as break in! literally just your ears adjusting to the sound. You could compare it to wearing sunnys for a while. their weird when you first put them on, but then your eyes adjust and they feel more normal.
@@charliehill6776 fair enough.
