    An 18year old man just lost his life after a 15year old and 17year old pulled a knife on him at a birthday party in my home town in Cheshire a couple of days ago. The UK laws on Self-defence and protection are an utter disgrace as the victim was left screaming whilst he was dying. With violent crimes against other people it should not be illegal to be prepared for the unexpected especially when none law abiding citizens are carrying lethal weapons which they are clearly prepared to use. Something in law has to change because the violent criminals out there pose a threat in just about every situation. My heart bleeds for the family who just lost their son.

    Air guns in the wrong hands are extremely dangerous and the video your refer to was an smk s2 which is a low powered budget air gun which you can buy for less than £40. If you actually watch the video properly after seeing the blood he is clearly shocked and this is a normal physical response of the human body. There are many different types of air guns and like I said anyone who believes they are not dangerous or potentially lethal is deluded. Self defence is a very grey area and as you know only reasonable force may be used proportionate to the circumstances. Being shot by an air gun with 500 FPS or a rifle with 900 FPS I think not ... the outcome could be very different and as the video shows even a cheap airgun has caused an injury that requires medical attention ! A visit to AE and worst case a death and prosecution. These types of guns are guns and not toys and can seriously hurt. If you were in a life and death situation in your home and it was the only thing you could access then yes it may go some way in deterring an intruder and there was a such a story in the papers several years ago. Taking such action could put you the wrong side of the law .... an informative video but it needs to take into account what was used and in this case it was ( a cheap Chinese ) air pistol. In addition to this you hear the guy say I can carry this if I want to ! NO YOU CAN’T ! You cannot buy anything or carry anything with the sole intention of using it for self defence and you certainly cannot enter public areas with an air gun without good reason and it must be in a suitable case ( e.g. travelling to and from shooting range ) like the video but it’s content is misleading and inaccurate ! Let’s hope the perpetrator was prosecuted ... and my comment Does not advise about taking such action as self defence but it does outline the potential consequences of doing so. No one would want to be in this situation and for real we would all attempt to preserve our own lives but must remember the law too !

      #Z.X.R. ! : you can own percussion/black powder revolvers & rifles,shotguns in "some states" as a felon. Of course it takes some time to master the art of using those types of firearms. Best to check your local laws on such subjects just to be safe, every state is different governing firearms laws. If anything else always carry a good sharp folding/locking straight blade pocket knife. & a small pepper spray for concealed carry & a large bear spray for home.

    Those old gat guns used to give my mate a good dead leg when it popped out haha hardly security thought. I had a 21 shot co2 1911 that I had for security , it wasn't that powerful, maybe break the skin but it was the speed you could unload those 21 shots into a face if needed , if they kept coming then I'd feed the bloody thing to them but yes I think you'd be better off with a catapult having a heavier projectile . Plus the air gun comes under firearms when being cross examened for self defense and we know how that goes in this country even if you have a license and shoot them on your own property when fearing for your life. Prison! I'd stick with knives and bats for home defense . My house is rigged for home invasion, every picture on the wall has a carving knife taped to the back of it so if I'm stuck in any room I have a couple of knives and a hammer with a landyard tucked somewhere. Spears is what I want to make for every room though as I don't wish to get that close to trespassers , thrust form a distance until it's up close and personal then pull my carving knife and game over. I've always said to my bird if a home invasion was to happen both play terrified and cooperate so they drop their guard, calm down and don't see me as a threat giving me a chance to tool up and end it swiftly.. not too swiftly though coz I'm gonna av some fun with the bastard ... Probably wouldn't even ring the old bill coz when they see what I'd done to them I'd probably be sectioned ... Easy to just go missing in these hills and plenty do.. I don't dout these wild fires we are having will expose a few shallow burried corpse's in the area haha . Spears mate Spears are the best thing for home defense haha how can a million zulu's be wrong.

    It is BEYOND RIDICULOUS that it's illegal in this country to PROTECT YOURSELF by owning a gun! Criminals who carry real guns don't give a pig's arse about laws and don't get caught but law abiding citizens who only want to protect themselves and don't do anyone any harm go to prison for the crime of being prepared.

    BB and pellet guns have different characteristics. BBs aren't worth it, but I think heavy pellets would cause damage at close range. Plus, if you were to unload 8 pellets into the attacker's face they'd be too disorientated and in too much pain to think about fighting, I reckon.

  • @daveed3085
    @daveed3085 5 лет назад +1

    Normally people use flat head, or round head pellets, there are (as you know) pellets that have a nasty point to them. surely the pointed pellets could enter further into the flesh and cause damage where there is no bone? What is your view on this?

  • @MuskratJim
    @MuskratJim 6 лет назад +1

    Thumbs up and thanks for the information, Malc. I recently purchased a CO2-powered, semi-automatic BB pistol. For target practice. The manufacturer says it holds 20 BBs, but I can only seem to load 19 in the magazine. They also claim it shoots at 480 ft/sec, but with such a light weight BB, it only manages less than 3 ft-pounds of force.
    The gun is also mostly plastic, so it wouldn’t make much of a club for bludgeonning... lol

    As I understand "air guns". I think, here in the US, they are rated by how many "fps" (feet per second) the projectile will travel. 1 pump/cock pistols with those replaceable CO2 cartridges/tanks get around 200-300 fps. Multi pump rifles get up to 850 fps. Those nice single shot single pump (break barrel) ones get 1200-1500 fps. For perspective, I can tell you that if I pump my air rifle 10 times (the max) it will be at 850 fps and using a lead pellet I have taken rabbits with 1 head-shot at 20-30 yards.

    Hi Malcolm. I had to come back. You got me thinking about the air gun thing. I viewed a video there's other stuff to calculate, like "Joules", the weight of the projectile and distance... so... anyway. Catch you on the next one.

    I suppose if you shot them in the knee it might slow them down a bit ( I rather think a full power air rifle would drop them and make them have a nice little writhe and howl if you did that with it at close range ). But really the best thing to do an air pistol would be to throw the thing at their head and either run like a good 'un, or hit them round the ear with something solid while they were dodging it.

    A double or triple banded slingshot would be far more effective and faster to reload imho, The extra weight of a 10mm steel ball would stun them well enough to give them a good kicking while you re load for another blasting, preferably in the bollix !! I challenge anyone to have a slingshot pulled at max stretch to the bollix and don't buckle. Just saying, Now go and get one and never regret it and keep it by your back door in case ,aim for lower area, bollix, shins etc . point at the face to stop them , then immediately re angle your line of fire prior to shooting to the groin. job done

    Good video as ever Malc.some sensible advice mate you are right a UK air pistol us not ideal for self defence.however I would not like to get shot by one of my co2 non blow back pistols such as my tolmar as it shoots at around 500 fps 20 shot BB ,if they were all unloaded at me It would stop me in my tracks for sure.
    There are clearly far better options for self defence in the uk though.BTW I got a couple of those non locking knives yesterday like you got on holiday.great for the price.ATB.

    He is very lucky he wasn't shot in the eye. What's more multiple shots fired rapidly in the face will do awful amounts of damage. Even CO2 pistols like daisy 426 with 18 shot can be deadly weapon. Just brandishing the weapon in self defense could help, as only 8% of gun owners had to actually shoot in home intruder cases.

    You are absolutely right; a lot of air gunners overstate the stopping ability of an air gun to the point of fantasy. A .177 pellet might not even penetrate a leather jacket far enough to be felt. Even if it does hurt him, if he is carrying a firearm, you are going to lose. They may be better than nothing in the UK, where firearms are rare. In the US, some PCP air rifles reach 200 FPE, which is about the same as a .38 revolver, but most are single-shot and impossible to conceal. Winchester makes a powerful .45 caliber five-shot rifle of around 200 FPE, and I would keep that handy (however, the tank must be filled, which also makes it impractical, and it is an expensive gun). Evanix makes a 7-shot .25 caliber PCP revolver that is easier to carry, but far less lethal (around 40 FPE). A .22 or .177 just would not make me feel safe, although a good repeater would do enough damage that you'd have a chance to run. A knife or baseball bat can be more lethal.

    • @JamesLoudMouth19981
      @JamesLoudMouth19981 Год назад +1

      I’d rather load up my 6 shot .22 rifle and go to work on someone than pull a bat or blade on them and end up in hospital or a in a box myself, either of these outcomes will be the case 100% of the time, you can’t win knife fights without getting cut! Also you say Air rifle owners overestimate the power of their rifles, and the reality is that a .177 may not even penetrate a jacket, would you like to test it out? I’d wager any man or women to stand 10-15 foot away from me and my 6 shot .22 rifle, take a clip to the body and then not need to go and get medical assistance, there would be no one willing because we all know the outcome.

    Only last night we had armed police in our street because of fighting niebours, which in turn has made me beef up in home defence and offence. The garden is always rigged up,
