Here is the personnel. This video from Blue Note, Tokyo, Japan, has the same people as the "For Django" recording session in 1964. "for django" 1964 features Joe Pass (g) John Pisano (g) Jim Hughart (b) Colin Bailey (dr).
Pat Martino ,Joe Pass,Barney Kessel, Allan Holdsworth, Rene Thomas,Eddie van Halen,Jimi Hendrix,Les Paul,Wim Overgaauw,Ed Bickert ... these are my greatest guitar legend 's..r.i.p.
I took lessons from him from ‘73 to ‘75 when I lived in Van Nuys. We would play jazz standards and I would stop him when I heard/saw something that I was capable of playing. He always told me to sing my solos.
I saw him in Chicago in the late 80’’s? I talked to Joe for 4 -5 minutes . A great guy. He was selling his own CD’s and Cassettes at a table. He was signing autographs etc... He’s a virtuoso!🎸🎼
it's good but I'm partial to this Wes take (and by the way, I love Joe Pass!) It's music, so this is about taste, not about something being better or not as good : ruclips.net/video/pZ0ybQnhsvc/видео.html
Nice solo, inventive and nicely sculpted. About 5:05 I hear him quote Desafinado. Interesting how he alternates from plectrum to finger style. Different effects can be achieved depending.
Didn't notice. But it does give more top end if needed. For instance (I play the same guitar) if bass pickup on 8 or 9 and treble pickup on 2 or 3. Tone controls to taste.
@@Studio-62 I find it gives it more airy feel. Same thing when played with single coils or doing jazz on a SSS config. Also find it really helpful to have this as an options when the bass overpowers and the guitar control are all I have access to.
Gibson ES-175 This Gibson guitar, the Es175, was the main guitar of Joe Pass. He got one for his birthday from a guy named Mike Peak in 1963, who saw Joe Pass playing jazz on a solid body (the Fender Jazzmaster).
@@greatvanzini it was not exactly a 175 but very similar. He describes it in the dvd "An evening with Joe Pass", this is the video ruclips.net/video/HSeJSWwEyoE/видео.html
Just look at their faces. They’re having an absolute gas. Lovely to see. RIP Joe P, you legend.

A cool thing about jazz is that you can peak in your 70’s.

You are one lucky man - the guy was a genius!
Joe Pass one of our great forefathers in our beautiful Jazz tradition.

i just simply love Joe Pass' style of playing. He leads but just knows how to enable the other musicians to shine through from time to time.
amazing how much quality sound 4 musicians can produce
A performance from one of the most tasteful guitar players of all time.
TWO of the most beautiful guitar players..

Joe has this tune in his hands.
Pass is still the greatest hard bob jazz player, in MY opinion. It is a personal choice, you may and probably will differ and that's ok.
Oh, if only everyone knew that it's OK for someone to differ.
I like to think that nobody played better than Joe.
anyone who could hold the guitar chair with oscar peterson has to be one of the best ever.

Very Good
I don't know which version I like of this song better !!!

This is the late Joe Pass, the gig isafter 1990 since he plays the Gibson signature model.
