- Today, we interviewed Reina del Cid, an awesome Minneapolis-based musician and content creator, sponsored by Shure Microphones and Excellence Marketing. Reina (if you didn't already know!) is a singer-songwriter and leader of the eponymous folk-rock band, formerly based in Minneapolis, now based in Los Angeles.
She walks us through the transition from upper-midwesterner to Angelino during a pandemic, her songwriting process, and how she selects songs to cover. Check out her future tour plans, her jump from musician to musician+podcaster and how Shure mics have helped along the way.

I am 66 and was around when Dylan became so popular and I never thought I would hear another musician who would come along in my life time. Your lyrics remind me a lot of Dylan's songs. You definitely have his type of talent. At least I believe you do. May you and Toni have many, many more years of playing music together.

I am 62 years old and you youngsters cause me to feel 30, again. I have played the acoustic guitar since I was 4, and I am no where near as good as you or Tony. You both are very good musicians and singers, and I am proud to be a fan of you all. You and Tony are very beautiful young ladies and very nice and are extremely talented.
I just started to be a fan about a year ago, and I look forward to hearing and seeing you all.
Stay the same, and I am sure that you will go far. I am also very sure that you are going to continue to only get better.

I had the chance to see her perform live at a show in Phoenix and meet her afterward. Not only incredibly talented but accessible and humble too. My dad, myself, and my daughter are all big RDC fans.
Reina you and Toni are awesome. I’m 57, I’ve been a musician since I was a little kid. I started on guitar, thank’s🎸dad, and excelled on the trumpet in high school. I learned some on the keyboard during my career in the United States Navy. My 24 year old son and I both play guitar.
Not only are you and Toni better than I am on guitar, my son as well, you inspire me to pick up one of my dusty guitars. I need to practice and play more and maybe one day I’ll be 1/2 as good as you and/or Toni.
I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for you.
I have been watching her here on RUclips for years. I have always been glad for the sound quality that she insists on. Good music that always come through clear.
You are an impressive poet. You and Tony, Mary Spender, Adam Neely, and Paola Hermosin help me remain human, sane and inspired. I've been a technical writer for the past 45 years and I'm very impressed with your word craft. I know from my experience writing how much effort must go into your writing. My favorites are Bernadette and Library Girl. I hope you two are happy in LA, not for me, but de gustibus non disputandum est.

Reina and Toni, the best duo out there. You complement each other so well. Are there more technically gifted guitar players and singers out there? No doubt. But do they make better music is the right question. Do they provide what I want? No way!!! You can ace it just sitting on a couch like no one else. It blows me away. And I like it when you add some other musicians, too. Reina is the leader. I have no suggestions for perfection.
Since discovering Reina and her amazing colleagues and friends a year ago have really enjoyed watching them regularly. I think they reach people of all ages and as I am a bit older but was musical in my youth I watch these great videos with these fantastic natural musicians with such pleasure. Fan in Switzerland.

Im continually impressed by the musical talent in RDC and their orbit of friends.
They remind me of clusters of folkies and singer-songwriters of the 1990’s (Patti Larkin, John Gorka, Nancy Griffith), and the Laurel Canyon artists from c. 1968-75, all contributing to the shared experience.
Reina del Cid is amazing- awesome video as always. I recently purchased a Shure MV-7 mic for voiceover work and it is excellent...as are all Shure products...and Reina del Cid!

Whenever crusty curmudgeons in my generation -- and I'm in my mid-50s, so there are a-plenty -- grouse about how "no one makes good music anymore," I immediately introduce them to Reina del Cid, Mary Spender, and many other current-day extraordinary and original musical artists (wish I could list them all, but a very brief starter list beyond Reina del Cid and Mary Spender includes: Yvette Young, Billy Strings, Melanie Faye, Marcus King, Juno The Artist, The Other Favorites [Josh Turner & Carson McKee], Ariel Posen, Christone "Kingfish" Ingram, and so, so many more). Just pay a little attention here and there, my fellow fiftysomethings and older, and you shall see.
Thank you from one of your "mid-50's" cohort. I watched Mary Spender for the FIRST time a moment ago at your (a strangers!) recommendation. Cannot BELIEVE her rendition (along with her accompanying guitarist) of that Fleetwood Mac song. Wow! Thank you Boomer Dell (Though at 53 I'm not a Boomer, I'm an "X".)

At the time I was mourning my Mother’s death and since I have no children I wanted to leave something behind for after I’m gone.

I love that you do some covers. I especially like your take on old songs I’ve been listening to for a long time. In 50 years there will be young musicians doing your songs. It’s a way to keep the old songs going without having to listen to the original version for ever. For example Tennessee Waltz had many covers including Norah Jones, Patti Page, and y’all. I love your originals as well.

I like your music and you`re right, its a good idea to start doing podcasts or talk a little before singing the songs. I`m from L.A. If you get a chance check out Donut King in Gardena on Western ave. It was called The Big Donut when I was a kid growing up in the 60`s and 70`s. Great donuts and iconic big donut on the roof. Absolute huge fan of yours. I'm curious where you studied music? I realize some musicians don't actually study music and have a natural talent. I wish I had studied music and I think I have a little bit of talent which may be natural but I am lacking so much. You and Toni bring a lot of joy to many ears and souls.
