Elle, happy to know you in this configuration. On my 21st birthday, I got a 3 x 5 file card from my grandfather. He was a truly unique character and played a major role in how I choose to leive may life. Her is what the card said. ""Jeff: Wanted to send you a birthday card but forgot to pick one up so this will have. to do. On your 21st birthday, my advice to you is never be afraid to look another man in the eye and tell him the truth." That line of advice has proved its value over the years. This is the exact opposite of what normally is shown on RUclips and it makes me so serenely happy.
The fact that she said that she felt with her more intimate work that it drew her to her real name, and that it lead to her eventually embracing that side of her in her creative endeavors as a whole really struck a chord with me. I’m sure if her parents knew that embracing the name they gave her, out of the love they had for her since her birth, became a source of deepening her artistry in all her creative endeavors, it would especially moving to them. They’d be smiling the warmest smile, and would feel an interior affirmation that the life they gave their daughter is inseparable from the meaning they find in life in general.
I hope people realize that took a lot of courage! You rock and are the most honest, true to yourself person on YT, Elle 💛

It’s a business decision. She wants her own name to be recognized for the work she’s put in. That has nothing to do with courage.

@@BrandonWestfall- I know what you’re saying, and I can’t really judge whether it took courage or not, because I don’t know her - but courage comes in many forms. If there’s something you find a bit scary, but you do it anyway because you feel you have to - that to me is courage, whether it’s a business decision or a child taking their first steps.

@@tryste_mx Ah you see, it's all in the eye of the beholder. If you are twenty or below (age) then she is getting-on a bit but to someone of my age, she is young. Young / old; tall / short are really relative terms depending on our own position in the scale. So he's right - and so are you. For the record, she is aged about 35 (2003) I believe, so if there is an absolute scale in human longevity, I suppose she is early middle-age but she's young to me and old to you and always will be. All the best.

Hello from Cordoba in the great state of Veracruz, Mexico. I've been in love with you and your music and poetry since Library Girl. The recent space and Star Trek rap is great. I still have trouble envisioning you in LA. I grew up in Southern California listening to Merle Travis, Joe Maphis and the Collins Kids, but the environmental deterioration was so severe by 1964 that I left and never returned. You're a wonderful and very creative artist and I am very happy to have you in our lives. Reina, Rochelle or Elle, you are a blessing for us❤.
I was under the impression her real name was Rachel, so when she first announced her new name, I thought she was adopting another Spanish moniker - El Cordova. Sounds dashing and swashbuckling. Apparently it's a hotel in San Diego. ;)

I was completely comfortable with the reasons for Reina. It was a smart idea. You and Toni have been the coolest and least demanding friends. I will always enjoy 'hanging out' with you. It doesnt matter what you call yourself you are a super talented artist. you dont know it but you and I did a fantastic duet of ' You don't know me' which gave me the confidence I needed to start singing in public. At 61 I am late to this game but I get so much satisfaction from singing and playing guitar, and you helped me see that I may actually be good at it. I don't know why it is, but artists changing names drives me crazy. It still bugs me that Mandolin Orange changed to Watchhouse. HOWEVER, it's your art and creativity that I love much more than the name, and I'll eventually get used to it. Also, since Elle Cordova is essentially your actual name it makes perfectly good sense. In addition to your music - your originals are so special - I love your raps about dead authors. I've been a geeky literature fan for more decades than I care to admit, and your raps make me smile. I'm now headed to your new channel.
Your comment made me laugh because I too liked the name Mandolin Orange better than Watch house. However, as you pointed out, Elle isn't making up a new fake name. It's her actual name. In both cases, I care far more about the music made than I do the name they attach to that music.
