    In regards to the Clarkson Incident... Anyone who calls their Lawyer before calling the Police or Coast Guard shows that they are GUILTY of something. Unfortunately, "shock" can be used as a valid reason for incompetence. It is also very strange that people who go out in the water with Howard keep disappearing... Hmm. Did Howard own these boats? Were there big insurance payouts?

Its really interesting to watch but a little creepy knowing that the guy who they are talking to and they show collecting abalone is about to die. It had to be no more then maybe a couple weeks that the film crew was on the boat with Howard showing what he does while Peter is in the water collecting the abalone and sending it up. Around 1995, a friend got us to watch a video and showed us footage of a shark attack that happened in that same area in South Australia. Two divers were diving for abalone. A huge great white started circling them and then attacked one of the divers. The other diver was filming, so he captured the whole event of his mate being attacked. It had him in a vice like grip around his shoulders. By some miracle, the shark momentarily relaxed its grip and he managed with perfect timing to get free and swam like a man on steroids to the surface. I think if I recall correctly it was estimated to be around 18 to 22 feet long. Later on in the video, he relates his story about 2, or it might've been 5 years after the attack. He showed the scars on his back. He related how it was like being in a giant like vice and he could hear the crunching and grinding of his bones. This is the most spectacular shark attack I have ever seen.
    I have tried to locate this but haven't been able to. I even have looked at Shark Week which was on the Discovery channel but couldn't find it there.
    I hope this Sharks Happen channel locates that video footage.

    My neighbour who was a drug addict was found dead in his house. His friend told me he found him in his armchair and had apparently been there for five days. Here's the problem I have. My neighbour's dogs were outside untied. They had been out for hours so since they knew me, I put them back into the house directly into the living room. The next day the same thing happened so I put them back into my neighbour's living room. I looked around and thought he was high and out of it and he was in his bedroom. The next day there was a police car at his door all day. I took his dogs for a few days before they went for rehoming. I never saw the body once, not once. Where the hell did he come from? I know he wasn't in his chair, I'm not blind, but there was no body in the armchair. By chance, another neighbour was in the same regiment as my neighbour. Something fishy is going on. Something's not right about the whole situation.

      Yeah, really sounds like the writers must've read an article or something and based that scene on this because in the movie the guy left behind on the capsized boat was adamant he didn't wanna get in the water with the others because he'd seen what was out there (i.e. big sharks). I think it cuts back to him a few times in The Reef and it feels like he's being stalked/circled by something in the water...?

    • @Otech3stvo
      @Otech3stvo 2 месяца назад

      @@RaefonB The Reef is loosely based on the true story of Ray Boundy. When his shrimp boat capsized in the Coral Sea, he and two friends got hunted down by a tiger. His mates were eventually killed. I can't recall the names, but there's another real story involving a capsized boat. The lone survivor made it to shore after hours in the water while his friend stayed on the upturned hull because he was 'too afraid of sharks'. He was never seen again.

    the way these sharks hunt in packs reminds me of lions . they know what they are doing and they thrive in that environment with shockingly strong bite attacks that would stun even the strongest human thats lived

    Absolutely terrific video Hal, this one was immensely entertaining, one of your best yet. Howard Rod must be the most unlucky mariner of all time. Just imagine being in the water scuba diving and then seeing your boat, sinking, and missing you by what probably mere feet, as it passes you by. WILD stuff.

    5 years ago my my uncle Jack had taken several guys out to fish about 8 miles from shore at long Beach California. They spotted a capsized boat and 2 guys in the water. The guys were yelling something and waving their arms .As my uncle got closer to them , the guys on his boat spotted a huge shark fin and they freaked out. as my uncle was speeding up to get to the guys, he spotted 4 Orcas close by and they could now see the shark better. It was heading towards the men in the water. That's why the 2 guys were yelling and waving their hands . They were only about 20 feet from the shark. My uncle said it was a 14 meter great white shark. Then he saw something that he didn't expect. Two of the Orcas turned towards the shark and with one on each side of the shark they chased it away from the guys and attacked the shark. My uncle said it was the craziest thing he had ever seen. The other two Orcas were swimming about 16 feet from the two guys in the water , it was so strange, like they were protecting the guys from the shark. My uncle said he's heard of whales doing that with humans but never Orcas. After the shark was eliminated by the Orcas, the two that had been with the two guys swam away and joined the other Orcas. My uncle reached the guys and helped them into his boat. They were young, in their twenties. They said they were going too fast in their boat over waves and they hit one too hard and it went into the air and flipped over throwing them into the water. They were shaking and said that when they saw the big shark fin they started flipping out, they thought that they were going to be its dinner. They said that when they spotted the Orcas that fear went even higher. They figured there would be two different predators after them. They said they were praying hard and when they saw my uncles boat they started crying and thanking God . Two grown men crying, they said is am embarrassed but at the time they were filled with so much emotion the tears just started flowing. After they were hoisted into my uncles boat they said they watched the two Orcas swim to the others and were relieved to be alive. One of the guys on my uncles boat was actually able to get all of this on his go-pro !! My uncle found out that one of the guys he rescued is the son of Pierce Brosnan. But he was just like any other young man who thought his life was over by way of great white shark. He certainly had an adventure to share with his dad. The guy who captured it on his go-pro was able to give a copy of this to the two guys so they had proof of what happened. I mean let's face it, who would believe something like this 🤔 Thank goodness for go-pro video !!

    In the late eighties, there was a night-dive incidence on Maui. It was a dive-master and two students doing a "night-dive," for credit. They had finished their dive and the dive-master was unable to pull the anchor-line. The anchor was only a length of heavy chain, but somehow lodged in between two coral-heads..."no problem," he said and told his students he'd be right back, once he freed up the chain.
    The story his students told was that as they watched his dive light going down to the bottom was, "All of a sudden, the light was jerking and spinning radically and then spun off into the deep." Apparently, that action had freed the chain. They waited for a while and decided that they'd better go to shore and tell someone. They were afraid to follow the anchor-line down to the bottom for fear of the shark...or sharks. I wondered if the shark was used to seeing "food," at the end of a fishing line and figured the anchor line with something tugging at the end was just more food?

    • @SharksHappen
      @SharksHappen  6 месяцев назад

      I dont think they would be concerned with the line at all as all their senses would be focused on the victim

      @@SharksHappen Having watched a friend, who was handlining Tuna, know immediately, when his estimated 80-pound fish was being chased, he was used to this kind of activity. The sharks were accustomed to a very fast fish, suddenly acting differently and therefore a target, just like any predator would discern. The lines were nearly invisible at that depth...500 feet, and dark. The tuna were the potential targets that suddenly acted differently. The dive instructor may have, unintentionally, acted like something the sharks were used to feeding on. Like the abalone-diver that got attacked by a great-white in Russian Gulch Park, near Fort Brag CA. Whatever he was doing, while diving, caused him to be attacked on two separate occasions in less than two years. I don't know if it was the same shark, but he wasn't becoming a popular dive-buddy, at that point...don't act like a seal?

    Great podcast Hal. ❤ You are so tan. Are you back in the Keys? What do you think is going on with all the fish? Do you think if the sharks are eating infected/or affected fish, that they will be exhibiting bizarre behaviors? And do you think it is safe to eat Florida seafood?
