I bought a 2020 27" ten core i9 iMac when Apple announced they were moving to their own chips. It's still my main Mac and it holds it's own easily against my M-series Macs for the audio work I do. If Apple does another large screen iMac I hope it's not the iMac Pro. The iMac Pro was basically a Mac Pro without expansion slots, but the same hefty Mac Pro price tag.
One of the great things about the 27" iMac was what a great value it was and that is the gap that Apple is currently missing. A Mac Studio paired with an Apple Studio Display is much better value than the iMac Pro ever was. Unless they can make a larger iMac/iMac Pro a great value, I'd rather see them reduce the price of the ASD and introduce an additional larger (and even smaller) version of it. That way you could pair the different monitors with the mini, Studio, Pro or any of the MB lines.
I agree when it comes to more powerful processors. But a 27" iMac with a base processor is still a product thats missing. The minimalistic looks of just powercord and everything else wireless is priceless.
A 27-inch or 32-inch display with ProMotion, paired with M1 Max or Ultra chips, would be a dream come true for most designers. Hopefully, Tim Cook won't be too stubborn and will listen to what consumers are actually asking for, rather than just focusing on profits!

As someone who had iMacs and the old iMac Pro until why stopped making them. I'm glad they did. The only reason it was good before was that they WERE more powerful than MacBook laptops. Now myself and anyone who had an iMac has more than one main screen already.. buying an iMac Pro now would be a bit pointless. It's just going to be more expensive in the future when you want to upgrade down the road to the next m chips. You also won't be able to upgrade ram like older iMacs which was such a good benefit.
Once I went to three monitors, I could never go back. I have 2x LG ultrafine 5K monitors plugged into my iMac with a Radeon Pro 5700 graphics card supporting the displays. However, I have never been able to get 10bit on both monitors. They've both been reduced down to 5K 8bit. I'm REALLY hoping the new iMac Pro will bump these displays back up to 10bit, because there actually is a big difference between 8bit and 10bit, but there hasn't been a good option in Apple's lineup to solve this issue for me. The new M3 iMacs can only support one additional display? Wtf?
Hopefully Apple will also update its Accessibility option in Mac OS to further increase the font used for the menu bar. It‘s presently too tiny on a standard third-party 4K monitor.
I've had four generations of intel iMac. Three of them ended up with screen burn in. My 2020 intel is now starting to show signs of it. I am going to carefully consider options and pricing if they come out with a new larger model. With the Studio and an external display, those hot components are kept far away from the LCD.
My 2019 i9 27 inch iMac has served me well but it is showing its age as the 12 core M3 Pro MB Pro has double the CPU performance. The iMac was a bargain in that the display itself was worth about $1300 and RAM was user upgradeable. I imagine that an updated iMac will be released at about the same time as that an updated stand-alone display unit is released purely from an manufacturing perspective as the same display panels will likely go into each of these two devices. Of course, we are all speculating here.
It is too little, too late for me. I had three larger iMacs and was hoping for a more versatile gaming friendly platform, it never came. I was hoping for the Studio Display to upgrade the 5K panel, it never came. I jumped to Samsung with a 4K monitor that has two HDMI inputs which is handy because I purchased a gaming PC with my last upgrade, so it allows me to plug in my M1 14" Pro that I will not need to upgrade for years because it is for movies and a web browser. I switch to the other HDMI port and I am on my gaming PC. I never would have gone that way but the Studio Display was the same price as a 4K display and gaming PC combined. I am no longer interested in a larger iMac that can't be used as a monitor for a PC. They forced me into the PC market and I am happy to stay there.
MacBook Pro for movies and browsing. I want to have spare money like you! But I agree with you on your points! The old iMac 5k was barely more expensive than the Studio Display is now. That Display is just a rip off but it sells since there is no design like it on the market. In my opinion there was never a Mac with better value for money as the iMac 5k, beautiful, powerful, nice display and you could game on it way better than you can on the M-macs now. Bootcamp was shit for a few years when it comes to productivity but for gaming it worked nice.

Apple decided to make the iStudio headless because (a) the release cycles for its SoC and those for advanced large display panels are not in sync and, (b) the profit margins for mainstream large displays are too low for Apple‘s business model.
Perhaps Apple could offer a high-end 32“ 4K miniLED Mac Monitor without a chin but with a foot and cable management designed to elegantly accommodate a Mac mini/Mac Studio unit for say, a grand and change.
I didn't expect that. I mean, the new updated neural engine... They usually use the same neural engine across all the chips from low-end to high-end. The only difference we might notice is when compared to the M1 series, which is almost double the performance.

Why are you still going on about this? The Mac Studio was pretty much the nail in the coffin of the larger iMac. At the "Scary Fast" event late last year John Ternus, (Senior VP of Hardware Engineering at Apple) said that the 24" M3 iMac is the "[...] perfect size and resolution to replace both the 4K and 5K Intel-based models [...]" I sincerely hope that nobody bases their future purchasing decisions off these rumors.
In the Spring of 2025, I will be buying my first M-1/M-2/M-3/or M-4 desktop computer. If buying today, I would pick-up a M-2 "mac mini" Pro and, pair it with a 32-inch 6K XDR display. However, if Apple, Inc. decides to introduce a new 27-inch, 30-inch, or 32-inch M-4 iMac system ... well, I might have to also check it out (smile ... smile).
That‘s all doesn’t make any sense. No 27“ iMac could be higher than the Studio Display with Mac Studio. There is just one gap below for this possible 27“ iMac but i would not bet, it will coming. If instead, the Studio Display needs to be replaced. May be larger, may be with mini LED, but both will not be the case on the possible 27“ iMac, because of it‘s place in the market.
I wish M4 Macs supports more external USB-C SSDs RW 2000 MB/s (like Kingston XS2000 4TB USB-C) than current M1, M2, M3 series support external USB-C SSDs RW up to 1050 MB/s (even for faster speed Kingston XS2000 4TB USB-C thunderbot 4 cable connection).
I'm waiting for the M4 iMac for my first desktop set-up instead of the M3 iMac after hearing what you said about the M3 chip. Kinda sucks that I gotta wait till 2025 but I'll wait if I have to. In the meantime, I'll rely on my M2 MacBook Air which still runs great 😁
Sounds legit. I trust Apple will turn the 27" into a Pro gadget because, as we all know, it's impossible to use 27" as a consumer, right? Right? And, $$$. Can Apple redesign the iMac? I hate that piece of thick border underneath screen. Just make it like a dell ultra sharp monitor with no borders would look so much better.
I hope the changed the air ventilation in the back no pointe to the stand . The escape heat vent it returns the air to my nose and do a circular heat air .
Been waiting for a while. I have the 2017 iMac Pro and a 2020 iMac 27.
Get it right would be having more ports than the 24” and use proper cooling and at least a 27” display.
If they still have 8GB/256GB as base configuration then no.
Also the chip might be cabaple of it, but I would be surprised if Apple gave these 2 extra ports for free.
It’s kinda game over for the M chips . They hitting the physical limits of density . Can’t just make them smaller and denser forever .
32" iMac Pro would be a dream! 27" doesn't feel so pro anymore. It need to be more special than that.
i guess the question is did Apple make more profit on the studio display and Studio combo if a huge chunk of the consumers didn't buy? Like myself
it would be great to have two 32' models. One with a super fancy expensive expensive display and top end chips and then an intermediate with good chips and a good display. I really want a 32" iMac but if it's $6000 i'm going to have to pass
I want it so badly. After 6 years the iMac Pro is still the most powerful iMac you can buy.
Why are you still going on about this? The Mac Studio was pretty much the nail in the coffin of the larger iMac. At the "Scary Fast" event late last year John Ternus, (Senior VP of Hardware Engineering at Apple) said that the 24" M3 iMac is the "[...] perfect size and resolution to replace both the 4K and 5K Intel-based models [...]"
I sincerely hope that nobody bases their future purchasing decisions off these rumors.
I replaced my base model M1 Mac Mini with a 2019 iMac (with all the trimmings)
They didn’t make a Pro iMac because they wanted people to buy the Studio Display and Mac Studio combo instead.
hopefully the thunderbolt ports will be thunderbolt 5
In the Spring of 2025, I will be buying my first M-1/M-2/M-3/or M-4 desktop computer. If buying today, I would pick-up a M-2 "mac mini" Pro and, pair it with a 32-inch 6K XDR display. However, if Apple, Inc. decides to introduce a new 27-inch, 30-inch, or 32-inch M-4 iMac system ... well, I might have to also check it out (smile ... smile).
These colorful iMacs are a perfect definition of going from beautiful and elegant to WTF!
I believe the next iMac Pro will be the first out with M5
That‘s all doesn’t make any sense. No 27“ iMac could be higher than the Studio Display with Mac Studio. There is just one gap below for this possible 27“ iMac but i would not bet, it will coming. If instead, the Studio Display needs to be replaced. May be larger, may be with mini LED, but both will not be the case on the possible 27“ iMac, because of it‘s place in the market.
Still not convinced they’ll be doing an IMac Pro.
I wish M4 Macs supports more external USB-C SSDs RW 2000 MB/s (like Kingston XS2000 4TB USB-C) than current M1, M2, M3 series support external USB-C SSDs RW up to 1050 MB/s (even for faster speed Kingston XS2000 4TB USB-C thunderbot 4 cable connection).
On Kingston website, only this model Kingston XS2000 4TB USB-C price was dropped low to $280 US for a few months.
I'm waiting for the M4 iMac for my first desktop set-up instead of the M3 iMac after hearing what you said about the M3 chip. Kinda sucks that I gotta wait till 2025 but I'll wait if I have to. In the meantime, I'll rely on my M2 MacBook Air which still runs great 😁
October Mac Mini M4 == Insta buy..
Bootcamp is missing too. Easier to play PC games than Crossover or ParalleleDesktop solutions…
iMac Pro it is Time!
The naming no sense to have a 32inch iMac Pro. Their line up is about size choice not pro/regular choice
In you opinion ? Not sure you know what an opinion is !
That would be nice if a 32” inch came out I think it will be a home run
Sounds legit. I trust Apple will turn the 27" into a Pro gadget because, as we all know, it's impossible to use 27" as a consumer, right? Right? And, $$$. I wonder how many sales they've missed due to greed and laziness. I would have immediately bought a new iMac, but I'm sure as hell not gonna play around with a measly 24" model. And they better slap their sticker back on while they're at it, the front looks so bland without any logo. What a waste of space.
The M4 was supposed to be the M3, but it wasn't ready.
No. These are not leaks! These are just speculations.
27” would be amazing
Oh please a bigger imac M4 or a studio M4 but something professional Apple, please!!!
Or they never plan to make a 27" because they prefer the profit from separation.
Finally .. Jesus we’ve all been waiting for FOUR YEARS
Studio displays will come in two sizes
It's never going to happen because of margins. We have to understand the business side of things. Think profits!
USB C accessories like Magic Mouse and Trackpad are long overdued.
Sold my iMac Pro for free the Studio.... really miss the iMac Pro :(
Absolutely dread what they'll charge for the larger iMac Pro. My wallet is not ready as I type away on a 2019 iMac…
Work your magic Tim and convince me to ditch it!
When did rumors start being called leaks?
