YPAO is a software that Yamaha uses to eq your speakers for you. You need a microphone to this. If you don't have a microphone you can use your phone. Download an app for SPL and through the test tone setting on the receiver you can check the db of each speaker. Male sure they are all set around 75db. That should get you going until you can find a microphone. You can probably get one on ebay for 5 dollars.

I have this reciever can it be upgraded for 9.1 to add as an extra 2 height speakers to make it ATMOS?
No, it doesn't have any pre outs for additional channels/speakers. It's a 7.1 only

What speakers do you connect to one of these? I just found this unit in a thrift store. This is my first experience with home theater audio.
