  • Maneuvering 360 degrees around your tree on Treehopper or Bullman rings of steps, plus a 10% discount code: bowhunt
    One of, if not the major advantages of a saddle over any conventional stand is the ability to shoot 360 degrees around all sizes of trees and be able to move completely around the tree to use the trunk to hide behind so as not to get picked.
    In this video John sets up a tree with: 1. a Tethrd Predator platform and uses a ring of Bullman Outdoors Apex steps in conjunction with it on the backside of the tree. 2. a complete ring of Treehopper steps on a ratchet strap. 3. a ring of Bullman Outdoors platform steps on a ratchet strap.
    The majority of saddle hunters use platforms without steps on the backside of the tree, and unless your hunting in a small diameter tree, you can't shoot 360 degrees around the tree and on any diameter tree you can't move around the tree to be hidden behind the tree trunk.
    This video demonstrates the limitations of only using a platform, and the ease of moving around a couple trees with a ring of steps.
    Treehopper and Bullman steps are made of a plastic composite and are both rated for 300 pounds. In the past I endorsed Cranford's Saddle Scaffold ring of steel steps, but both Treehopper and Bullman steps are much lighter and quieter.

    John, read one of your books last year (Bowhunting Whitetails the Eberhart Way) and watch all your videos. I setup 6 preset trees Spring of 2022 with spike nails (10" galvanized from home depot) on the farm I have access to, and killed 3 deer, two does and a nice mature buck (Nov 15th, peak rut in a tree I didn't go anywhere near for months). he was hot on a doe. My season was cut short as it will be this year being on deployment in the military. I wont make it out at all this season unfortunately. All out of my ESS. I even picked up a Kathy Kelly Deluxe Daypack Quiet Pack. I also ran a full scent lok scent control regiment with totes exactly as you described in your videos.. mask gloves and all. The results speak for themselves and truly I am a believer. I was never winded even being directly upwind of many mature deer. I also share your views on hunting over bait, and guys setting up entire farms to grow deer and shoot when they've reached the size they want. Now when I watch a video of some guy in Illinois sitting in his $5,000 blind to hunt micromanaged deer over their 200 acre beanplot I just laugh. Nothing like getting it done on public and free permission pieces. Thank you for your content because without it, the learning curve would have taken years to figure everything out. I was and still am so proud of myself for scouting, prepping, practicing (from elevated stands), and making it all come together. True hunting. I butcher all my own deer as well.

      That comment was fantastic!!! I can relate to everything you said outside of being in the military! Thanks for your service and hunting the eberhart way will put you on many mature bucks and just deer in general! Good work

      @@blairfritz3798 Thank you! I get out in 2025 so I will be back hunting hard by then. The amount of deer I've seen has tripled after doing it the Eberhart way down to the T watching dozens of hours of his videos and reading his book. I am an OCD obsessed gear nut like John mainly due to my military service so doing all the little things he describes is like second nature to me.. John is right: most guys dont want to put in the work to get it done perfectly and are lazy. I'll never let that be me. I workout year round as well (cause I have to lol) so come hunting season I can climb 25 foot up a spiked tree without any issue 2 hours before daylight. GOSH I miss hunting. The only good part of missing this entire season being on deployment is that I get to watch all the new hunting videos real hunters like Seek One, The Hunting Public, and John put out. Something to look forward to! Anyway sorry for the rant and thanks for your comment and support.

      I read all Johns books when they first came out (I'm 58 now), he's hard core old school, except for the saddle which was 30 years ahead of his time, he pioneered saddle hunting, now every new mobile hunter is into saddle hunting. I've shot plenty of book bucks in high pressure cooker areas, but ironically, most without using a saddle, I use a Lone Wolf sit & climb- modified a little- I've got the tree's for it in my area, go very high quickly & dead silent only carrying 15 lbs related to climbing. But he's spot on about the saddle how he uses it. It's great John is on RUclips now. Good luck brother, enjoyed the enthusiasm of your comment!

    Opening day in maryland and was busted standing on my platform, I think not having full mobility to maneuver around the tree has always been an issue for me. I’m relatively new too saddle hunting, this would be my 2nd year. This video was extremely helpful and great timing, I paid the consequences today but this video is what I needed. Thank you John for all the hard work and helping us all improve!

      Using just a platform will get you picked eventually on many occasions during your life, especially in pressured areas.

    I'm hoping John now that you showed this the majority that use the platform thing , they scrap it. Nothing beats the ring of steps and also some times I use James Steps step ladder steps I put three around the tree. There a very convenient step system all carried in a small shoulder pack. Great demo sir👊

    Love my Eberhart signature, mine is actually a homemade copy with modification for rope climbing. The new Pursuit Platform with five steps and the cam lock strap is awesome, the new pursuit platform is sturdy and extremely lightweight, I use old ameristeps , plastic look like the tree hopper, I hate a ratchet strap, the cam lock that comes with a Pursuit Platform is easy, light and QUIET, and rope climbing with preset cords

    I want to switch to steps but I just don’t understand how those don’t kick out when you put side pressure on them…

    • @johneberhart4062
      @johneberhart4062 9 месяцев назад

      With a ratchet strap they get very tight and when you move around on them you step down on the step, not sideways.

    Also dosnt your pack and whatever you take get in the way when walking around the tree? Or do you hang it much higher?

    • @Louisiana-critter-getter
      @Louisiana-critter-getter 9 месяцев назад

      180° behind the tree from your sitting position an put it low enuff to grab out of it an also when your standing you can shoot over it

    • @johneberhart4062
      @johneberhart4062 9 месяцев назад

      I'm right handed and put the pack 120 degrees to my left side. I can swing 180 degrees to the left to get to the backside of the tree and can move 90degrees to my right and the pack will be out of the way for shooting 360. I hang it at my level where I can reach right into it with my right hand if needed.

    Kind of off topic, but when it comes to scent control how do you prevent scent particles from coming from your face? It just seems to me that unless you wear some sort of face shield, scent particles will still come from your nose/mouth as you breathe. Maybe you touched on this in another video but I don’t remember seeing it. Thanks and good luck out there.
