Yeah, I definitely had a different reaction. IoG's story fell almost completely flat for me and it's likely my least replayed of the trilogy for that reason. Terranigma's themes of death and rebirth, humanity's place in nature, the dangers of progress and the misuse of technology, and so forth were exponentially more compelling to me. My emotional reaction to the ending especially just fooored me and it's probably my favorite denouement of any game. And while I actually loved the boss fights, I can absolutely agree that the magic wasn't really worth bothering with.
Illusion of Gaia resonated with me because I felt a direct connection to the themes/storylines/etc. For me, I felt like Terranigma was much more broad scale and less personal (which basically you covered above with your favorite themes), where Illusion of Gaia didn't tap into that stuff basically until the moment the final boss was beaten - just a SparkNotes version compared to Terranigma's delving. But hey, subjective all around. Glad that Terranigma gave you that feeling that IoG gave me! I do plan on revisiting Terranigma in the future to 100% it, but I would rather play the other two (despite fully realizing that Terranigma is FAR ADVANCED beyond Soul Blazer).
Its my favourite game of all time, thankyou for playing it, The story hit me better and the themes hit me better than Illusion of time, but i understand that its basically preference, IoT is more personal and less grand in its ideas, and that can resonate with different people. I'm glad you enjoyed it, and even though its my favourite game of all time, i definitely agree with you on its magic system
I definitely think it’s exactly that - the difference between the grand and personal scale. Terranigma was definitely fun and enjoyable and I can totally see how it would be people’s favorite game. Looking forward to a replay at some point and I appreciate you watching along the way!
I agree! Though apparently Enix, the Publisher, closed it's USA branches or something which I believe is why it didn't come out (could be wrong). Either way, we should get a Quintet Trilogy modern release at the very least on the Switch or something!
I usually find this same sentiment about a LOT of games that the general consensus doesn't rank in the top 10 GOAT territory, but have fervent, smaller followings. I'll usually get to the end of it like, "Huh, that was it? I guess that was pretty good, but not *that* good". Also, don't apologize about bringing up negative points in reviews. People need to hear it. I love positive energy, but nothing is more soul-crushing than generic channels who just rubber-stamp every game they play as "good", avoiding confrontation with any viewers at all.
Haha, I am definitely non-confrontational by nature. So I will say it was a bit hard to put together this review & Golden Sun (two RPGs that are HIGHLY revered that I just... liked?). That being said, I appreciate the comment & you watching. I do want to try to stay as fair and balanced as possible. I really DON'T want to be that reviewer that just slobbers all over everything... unless it's deserved, of course!
I've yet to play Terranigma but maaaaaannnnnn did I love Illusion of Gaia. It makes sense I would since Secret of Mana has always been my favorite video game (FF6 being a close second). I've been looking to play a new Snes game and Terranigma seems to be it. Love that there's a continent of Mu. lol
Hope you enjoy your playthrough! Personally it was my least favorite of the 3, but it was still a very good game - it just resonated better with the majority.
Thanks! I put a lot of effort into these things. The behind the scenes for this one was a nightmare due to yt-dlp updates ripping source files in formats my editing program couldn't handle. Legit spent like 2 days downloading & re-encoding stuff before I could even start /vent over
Same here! I did like Terranigma and Soul Blazer, but Illusion of Gaia resonated with me personally more. Still super glad I got to Terranigma finally!
Just found your channel yesterday. Love your take on the Soul Blazer trilogy. I couldn't agree more, IOG is also my favorite despite Terranigma being a much more ambitious game. Also, gotta say that I was very pleased with the titles you've covered in previous videos, currently watching your King's field playthrough. Have you looked into The Grandstream Saga? Not only is it somewhat connected to the Gaia trilogy, but it also seems like the kind of niche game you might get a kick out of. Also, you'll feel right at home with the no faces thing.
I’m glad you found the channel! Also thank you for agreeing with my takes, haha IoG hive mind is my favorite 😂 I have been recommended the Granstream Saga a bunch of times and you know what? I’m gonna buy it now finally since it’s kinda cheap for an RPG. I’d love to cover it at some point! Also props and appreciate you watching the KF content! Love FromSoft old and new. I might do some Eternal Ring and Shadow Tower streams in 2024
To each their own. I liked the game and am happy I played it, but I prefer Illusion of Gaia in the "trilogy" and a couple others. Still a very good & intriguing game regardless. Thanks for watching!
Definitely agree with you on many points here - the beginning is a bit of a slog to get through. Getting to the surface of the world was a lot of fun and very exciting. The game does seem to stumble on the last act. Glad to finally hear your thoughts on it!
Thanks for playing and reviewing this game! 5:41 you need a cough drop? It was a pleasure being able to take part in your streams of Terranigma. I really love this game and hope you find some more joy in your offline play through some day.

Terranigma should have been released in the USA in the first place. 😀👍🎮
I agree! Though apparently Enix, the Publisher, closed it's USA branches or something which I believe is why it didn't come out (could be wrong). Either way, we should get a Quintet Trilogy modern release at the very least on the Switch or something!
I like your shining force windows/fonts on the titles of each section.
Thanks! Incorporated that sometime earlier this year, gonna stick with it for a while haha

I do recommend it! I’d be curious to see how you like it compared to to IoG when you’re finished, being a huge IoG fan myself! Also Mu made me smile 😊
Just saw your Illusion of Gaia review and decided to watch this since I just got Terranigma to play.
Hope you enjoy your playthrough! Personally it was my least favorite of the 3, but it was still a very good game - it just resonated better with the majority.
Nice review!

"Goodness gracious.. the fights are horrible" I love how blunt you are on how you feel lol. Glad you enjoyed the game overall though!
Certainly a fun game! Just a few too many issues and gripes on my end keeping it from being an all-time classic... to me, of course!
One of the Best SNES games next to IOG ❤ to be honest I liked IOG more though
Same here! I did like Terranigma and Soul Blazer, but Illusion of Gaia resonated with me personally more. Still super glad I got to Terranigma finally!

Best Action RPG ever on SNES and never released in the U.S.
It's not better than Chrono, but this is an Action RPG. Chrono is a turned based RPG.

Appreciate you watching & hanging out during some of the streams!

The cough was a foreshadow to tonight's stream! I appreciate you being there during the journey & I do look forward to my 100% run!
Terranigma? More like Terraligma! Lol
Good review dude! I really do love this game a lot. I'd give it an 8.75 or 9/10.
Hahaha, low key I was saving stuff on my computer as terraligma, jokingly of course! Liked the game. Glad that it resonated with you more!
@@Bitsandglory Great minds, brotha!
