I put 25mm Continental 5000 TL on these a few days ago, fairly straightforward to fit and they held pressure for 30 minutes with no sealant. Lost 2 bar in 5 days with the sealant which is OK. They certainly feel fast, responsive, a step up from the Mavic Ksyrium alloys I was using.
I have been run these for 2.5 years on my Tarmac SL6 (stock / OEM) and they have taken some serious abuse....! Started as Clincher, then a year ago I went tubeless. I'm around 200lb and done a lot of riding on them! No complaints, no crosswind issues obviously, and they still look in great condition.
I just found out about these wheels and I'm so intrigued. My 2022 Roubaix would look great with these wheels, and that in the end is what is mainly going to be the point with an upgrade like this. If it's an improvement in performance to the stock DT 470s, then it's nice, but the most important thing to me honestly is how they look and on the Roubaix, these wheels look sweet. If I gain some performance, and have an actual Specialized component on my bike instead of another brand, and have their warranty, well that's just icing then!
Jelmer van Kampen I ended up buying them for road riding. They are awesome! I have tubeless gp5000 on them (28cc) I can only compare them to my stock wheelset and this is my first set of carbon wheels but they are pretty light, stiff and comfy with my tire combo.
Aerodynamic wise, yes you will go faster. Whether or not the CL50 is worth is based on your needs. Do you intend to climb a lot? Are you looking for more speed on the flats? If you ask me, I'll take the CL50 any day over the C38 because its faster. Yes, there is a weight deficit but let's be real, just eat less, shed a few grams and the weight deficit is gone. Also, I'd recommend changing the ratchet on the CL50. If I am not mistaken, the default ratchet on the CL50 is an 18t star ratchet. Try upgrading it to a 54t ratchet and you'll have a louder hub + more engagement when sprinting or climbing.
I just bought a 2021 Roubaix Sport with the DT Swiss R470 rims. Just wondering if these are worth it for more casual riders, no racing or competitions.
Good video...great that you call out the parts. I'm changing my C38's (came with bike and had tubes fitted but tubeles-ready) over to tubeless and I wanted to use the Roval valve stems but no one seems to know which Roval valve stems are compatible. I saw below that you recommended Stans 55mm but wondered if Roval do valve stems for the C38. (As a side note, after care from Specialized and Roval has been a shocker...no sure if that's the norm :(

Hey. Really informative review. Thinking of upgrading to these on my CX bike. Would be my first carbon wheels for off-road - are they robust enough for cross?
I’m thinking about upgrading my wheels, but skeptical if these would perform better than the OEM wheels that came on my 2018 Fuji gran fondo Carbon 2.3 disc. The bike is a cyclocross with factory 30mm tires. Very nice review! I’m super interested.
Thanks for the Review. I was close to buy them for my diverge but then I read an article on intheknowcycling about carbon wheelsets for the money where they didnt come off well (cannot post the link here). Can someone agree that they are uncomfortable on the road and twitchy in crosswinds? Even though i have a diverge I want to ride fast roads with them and unfortunately I have no opportunity to test or compare these wheels so far. Would be my first carbon set. Thanks!
Actually, carbon wheels are more comfortable than aluminium wheels! Carbon can absorb road vibrations better than aluminium. Regarding crosswinds, it is dependent on the depth of the wheelset. If you have, for example, the Roval CLX64, no doubt you will be going way faster than you are but crosswinds can easily catch your wheel.
If you use the C38, the aerodynamic gains is not as much as compared to the CLX 64 but it is certainly much easier to handle in the event of a crosswind. Truth is, it is up to you and how you handle your bike. If you have the tendency to ride with one hand or even no hands(say you like to show-off), I might not even recommend you invest in a carbon wheelset. If you are confident on your bike and have good bike handling skills, the wheel depth in crosswinds is not daunting at all.
My question as well! James can you please share your wisdom for using this carbon option to replace the stock wheels/ hubs for the 2020 Roubaix Sport. An awesome service you provide with your videos, so informative, thanks again
@@conborzzzz I’ll be posting a video by end of the year on my channel I have ordered 50mm carbon wheels and will put the 470 DT Swiss wheels on scale and we will find out how heavy they’re

I just got these wheels and hate them. I tried mounting Continental 5000S tires and tubes. After 45 minutes I had ruined 2 tubes and gave up in disgust.
Manfred Adams totally agree. In fact, I ended up buying them :) I asked if the logo can be removed because I have a dark gray cannondale and you can’t really see the branding on it, which I like. In the end, none of that matters - the wheels perform really well and I’ve enjoyed a thousand miles on them since I asked that question 4 months ago! Cheers
What tubeless values are shown in the video? I bought ROVAL Tubeless valves which I believe are "MY15 Control Carbon/Allo = red rim shaped seal" directly from Specialized and THEY DO NOT FIT!! The threads on the valve only extend 30 mm so the retaining washer cannot be screwed on and the valve itself is only 40 mm to the valve stem which means I cannot get a pump with a presta inflator to clip on. Anyone know what tubeless valve I should have got?
