I probably have the same question everybody else has. Where the heck has Judge Reinhold been all of these years? The guy is a joy to listen to.
And he has a great voice!
I was stunned to see someone interviewed him - clicked right away
He got his biggest comeback
Reinhold was given the lead in Vice Versa (1988), but it flopped. "That was really the end of my highfalutin Hollywood career," Reinhold said later. "That's when the phone stopped ringing." He also developed a reputation for being difficult on set. "I was spoiled, and I was arrogant," said Reinhold of this period later. "I was very demanding, had an overblown image of who I was and got a reputation for being difficult. And rightfully so."

I assume it had to be on purpose, but in Beverly Hills Cop 2, when Alex calls back to Detroit in Billy's bedroom, Billy has a poster for Cobra on his wall.
Brigitte Nielsen was also in Cobra, and the main antagonist in Beverly Hills Cop 2.
Billy also has a Rambo poster.

The fact that Beverly Hills Cop was originally intended to be a serious action movie shows how crazy life can be with one different move on the chess board
The original 1960s 'Italian Job' was also meant to be a serious action movie (rather than action comedy) directed by Peter Yates (Who also directed 'Bullitt' with Steve McQueen and a number of other car chase movies) I would have LOVED to have seen that version!!
'48 Hours' is a great movie. Nick Nolte + Eddie Murphy was a great pairing.
I completely agree with you watching it now as a adult I appreciate the movie more because of their compatibility

Stallone was the one who got Eddie Murphy the part. Stallone told Arsenio Hall that story on his show.
i was working for Warner Bros back then and I read the orig script. It was a straight actioner to star Sly. I was very surprised when it all changed

@@jamesball5743 Nah, I recently rewatched it like a decade ago and it's brilliant for what it is. An action-oriented detective-themed horror-thriller? We definitely do not get films like that anymore. Plus, Stallone as Cobra going against Thompson as the "Night Slasher" was awesome. It reminded me of classic match-ups like Norris versus Brian Libby or Arnold vs the Predator. It's a real shame that we just do not get any kind of movies like that anymore.
I was working on the set of Netforce and met Judge Reinhold I told him Ruthless people was my favorite movie that he did he was really nice and Down to earth Scott Bakula was also in the movie and he had his family on set I spoke with him at craft services he is another very nice approachable actor

I never heard of Netforce. I thought Scott was great in the Original Quantum Leap and he was pretty good in the Star TRek Prequel Series0 Enterprise. Too bad Enterprise lasted only 4 Seasons.
The Remake of Quantum Leap was horrible. Puttting in a Trans Character was definitely not a good idea.

He looks pretty good for a man who’s officially a pensioner!! We all age and get older there’s nothing we do about it. But if you keep active and interested in life it helps to wind back the years a lot.
He also has a similar cadence in speaking to Goldblum. I think a movie with those two would be interesting.

That's a great story, I wanna see that version now. Sly also almost did a Neighbor vs Neighbor comedy with John Candy I've heard.
What was the name for Stallone? Axel Cobretti or something? Weird train chase sequence at the end? Just all sorts of wild stuff. Murphy deserved a screenwriting Oscar just for how much of the script was built from this improvisation. And that 'SuperCop' story of making Ashton break character cause of how funny it was and Reinhold having to pinch his inner thigh to prevent from laughing - the making of Cop 1 deserves a documentary.

@@jackbauer4186 When he explained the car chase sequence that Sly had written for Beverly Hills Cop, I immediately thought of that awesome chase sequence in Cobra with the 1950s Mercury. Also, listening to Brian Thompson talk about the sequences that Sly directed for the movie (he was basically pulling triple duty as director, cinmetographer, and actor -- I had no idea Stallone was the one who blocked and staged the shot for Thompson doing his infamous "pig" sequence at the end) you really learn just how creative Sly was behind the scenes in making certain movies and sequences as iconic as they were.
11 year old me thought Cobra was terrifying. 40 year old me thinks Cobra is hilarious. Cobra, brought to you by Pepsi and Coors.

I like Judge, he seems like a very pleasant down to earth guy. Glad to see the 3 of them back! Pensioner cops! Shows you that you’re never too old!! Don’t have to sit and slump on the sofa at a certain age.
And that's why there is a Cobra and Rambo poster at Billy's apartment in the second movie
It's also why there are multiple Stallone references in the newest movie.

Agreed. If it had been Stallone it would have been another run of the mill Stallone action movie, but with Eddie, he brought some incredible charisma, fun and comedy to the role whilst still doing all the action stuff. I'm so glad Eddie was in it and not Stallone.
It would've been a hit with Stallone no doubt, he was #1 at that time.

Wrong. Dan wanted him but he was never approached. Director Ivan Reitman didn’t Even know Dan wanted Eddie in the movie.

JR doesn't come across here like I've seen him in any of his movies. But, he's a d*mn good story teller and really good with the voices.
There's always been a misconception that SLY took all the comedy out, good to know that it was cuz he beefed up the action. Love the Sly Ester eggs on the movies.

Number one movie at the box office that year. Boggles the mind how chancy that was. Imagine Sly does it, and Eddie is in _Ghostbusters?_ They would have had to have re-written Winston's character to be the equal of the others and in the movie from the beginning, like maybe a rival paranormal investigator that owns the name "Ghostbusters" so they have to go to him.

Years ago I picked up a DVD of "Black Cobra: same movie as Cobra but with Fred Williamson instead of Stallone, funny hearing now they used Cobra to move Sly from Beverly Hills Cop

Sly was supposed to play Axel Foletti and he did take all the set pieces he came up with to go and make Cobra.
Btw, back before they did 3, I had an idea to take Taggart and Rosemont to Detroit and be fishes out of water in Axel’s hood, thereby letting Axel play in his element. I thought it would be hilarious to see them try and go by the book in Detroit.

I remember when Cobra came out. A friend and I would refer to it as 'Stallone Cobra' because that's how it was advertised. We were too young to see it, too. It came television and all the action scenes seem reminiscent of Terminator. Even the part with the truck at the end. Maybe I'm wrong.
Definitely some elements of Terminator in there, but it was also its own beast. The car chases in that film were super awesome, definitely had its own vibe.
Why does he keep saying Billy was a rookie? Billy was a detective. You don't go from the academy to being a detective. Billy was no rookie. But I do love the Judge!
You get called a rookie all over again once you become detective from what I've heard from a few family members that were cops.

I like Stallone, but BHC would have been so different with him, maybe too different; mostly action and less of a comedy. Eddie Murphy was great in that role.

Stallone did a re-write but the execs, producers said: noooo. That story, script 📒 became Cobra 1986.

Sly version would start off in Pittsburgh PA not Detriot. The producers did Flashdance in 1983 & wanted to return to PA since the film work went smooth. Sly would of played a cop with a stolen high tech pistol.

Stallone was suppose to be in Beverly Hills Cops! Murphy was suppose to be in Ghostbusters along with John Bellushi as Bill Murray's character! Stallone's BHC became Cobra! George Michael was suppose to be in Beverly Hills Cops 2 as Eddie's partner! George Michael was also suppose to join Prince with Michael Jackson for soundtrack to Batman 89!
Stallone has done some spectaculary amazing things. But one thing he almost f***ed up was Beverly Hills Cop by wanting to push it in a action and violence direction. The other thing he DEFINITELY f***ed up was Judge Dredd. He decided to make it... cuter... funnier...
I had never (and still haven't) read any Judge Dredd comics, but I knew.... I KNEW... THIS! IS! NOT! JUDGE! DREDD!
Judge Dredd is gritted teeth, busted teeth, blood, gore, profanities, no-mercy, relentless etc. etc.
Although i do agree, at some level Stallone was onto something. Look how marvel did theirs.. but it was not the right choice for Dredd. We did eventually get a great movie.

I think it would have been an interesting Movie with Sly Stallone instead of Eddie Murphy. I think they would have changed the Movie to the Protagonist being from New York instead of Detroit. Without being called Racist- I thought it was a little unbelievable that he knew all these White Characters including this pretty Girl who were now living in Beverly Hills. I thought it would have been more believable if Sly Stallone was the guy they knew.
I think it would still have been a good Movie- maybe even great if they kept Sly.

If Beverly Hills Cop was gonna be an action movie, why would the producers think of Eddie Murphy as a good replacement for THE action star at the time?
It's been reported that BHC was originally a comedy, Sly's first attempt. However, after he rewrote the script to be more action-heavy, the studio and he parted ways. Hence,.comedy = Murphy.
The mention of Katzenberg bringing Cobra to Stallone's attention is unlikely since it was a Warner Bros property. After Sly parted with Paramount, he took his version of the script and turned into Cobra.
