- A common Problem with 3800s is for the fuel line to leak at the quick disconnect at the fuel rail. Here is one good way to solve this problem.

2 years later and the video is still helping people, me included! Thanks for the video we appreciate it!
Glad it helped
Sure am glad that you posted this video, I was not aware that you could use plastic quick connect on a fuel rail. I thought that it had to be metal. Thanks
Dude after watching a bunch of videos and reading I couldn't find nothing saw this video and did more Google search and came across the same set up package u bought and it all clicked in my head .but I need the 90° version same thing tho just different fiting .thanks alot man appreciate it 🙏 I'm also doing a z3 turbo set up but I'm doing my maintenance b4 I set it all in .
-triple edge performance transmission (1.5 version)
-master overhaul kit on 3.8 engine
-all new suspension set up (coilovers, front and rear Strut brace ,adjustable sway bar links, trailing arms, front and rear sway bars, new tubular control arms, new wheel bearings, rotors and calipers (powerstop z26 version).
That's about it for suspension.
Gana start the engine internals soon that way I don't blow the motor due to turbo set up.
Thanks again brother 🙏
Most helpful. I really struggled a couple of Years ago getting a 35 yo Nylon line back into a fitting. Ended up with a bit of a botch job. Boiling water did not work well enough.
However, the hair dryer did the trick on the end I had to re-do today. So anyone else really struggling with an old fitting - nice powerful hair drying and a lot of ooooph. Also maybe a little oil on the fitting and turn as you press.
I like that trick with hot water a bit safer then using other device's..cheers man
Thank you man your videos was very helpful believe it or not I don't know if your fuel line with the same as mine but I was trying to push that connector in and it was a pain in the ass to wear if it's the same material I'm hoping it does soften it so I can just slip it in🎉🎉
Nice cup use, will try it. I bought 800 063 for similar fitting on my explorer. It came 2 in a pack, but only one fits from the kit . The other is bigger .. live and learn. Lucky I did not cut the lines
Your a god sent, I’m upgrading my fuel pump and needed a new connector and this is exactly the tutorial I needed
Glad it helped
Just replaced my fuel rail on my L36 and the connector stuck, then came apart. This was perfect!
Thanks alot for this video i snapped mine off checking my spark plug wires on an 02 pontiac grand prix. And i had no idea what to do about it. I just know I cant afford a mechanic.
Glad it helped
More vids pls ..
😁😁😁😎
Nicely done!! Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching
Love the thought behind highlighting a repair like this. A couple of thoughts:
1) Does this address any aspect of the factory recall for the fire hazard, or did this only pertain to the valve cover gaskets?
2) Please don't interpret this is being disrespectful, as I do really enjoy your vids, but anything you could do to increase visibility for the audience would be gold.
Thank you again for making these! 👍 👍.
This isnt part of the recall, it was just valve covers, and thanks for the feedback, i will work on it
Hi 👋
You just saved me 500+ dollars for this same repair same location on my 97 Buick park ave ultra thank you so much
Awesome. No problem
Hey Salem! Great video! I’ll be doing this later today on my 04 gtp. Is yours still holding well??
Yes
Any tips for installing the 5/16 retaining clip into the the side of the fuel line that connects to the fuel pump? I damaged the old clip removing the line and found a replacement made by dorman but think I was too forceful installing. Now I need to try again with a new one and don't want to repeat my mistake.
Installing is usually not too bad, should just click on.
Could you use a heat Gun,low setting on the nylon line?
Yes, but carefully. Easy to overheat it that way.
I had to cut my nylon fuel lines because of a crack and used the black and blue press fittings but its leaking bad. Would this work to splice them together?
Yes
Great repair!
Thanks
Although soaking the aftermarket (e.g. by Papco)) nylon fuel line in boiling hot water for 10 minutes is recommended by Papco, it does NOT seem to work for the stock GM nylon line that comes from the fuel tank. Typically, damaged "quick fittings" from the gastank/sender,
nylon lines, need to be cut off. The tight spacing, working under a car- and the very short line length makes getting it into boiling water almost impossible. I would NOT use a heat gun to soften it up, due to gas fumes coming out of that fuel line (its attached to the sender/tank!). Stretching the hoses inside diameter (ID) with needle nose-pliers does help, however pushing fittings far enough into the factory nylon lines seems more difficult than the aftermarket (Papco) nylon lines. Various unions, fittings etc. of typical size (5/16 or 3/8) are either too tight or too loose.
Any recommendations from mechanics, pros and shade-tree engineers?
Have dealt with the same. I have come to the conclusion that the only way to do it right is to remove the line from the vehicle so you can use a heat gun on a bench. It's a pain but trace the hose and find it's next connection, disconnect both sides and do on a bench.
I was able to soften some old hard lines with a powerful hair dryer where boiling water did nothing ('88 F150). But I still needed space to get the the line warm enough and to get enough grip to get the quick connect on. However, knowing this works, I would consider removing lines in the future since I now know I can get the connectors on them.
So I got the line attached to the vehicle half way on. Would you recommend heating it up with again while it's half way on since it could rust the metal. Or would a heat gun be the better route?
You. An use a heat gun but be very carefull, they tend to overheat the line
Rust sbouldnt be an issue with that connector
@@SalemDoyle I see so the push lock bur shouldn't rust then. Thanks!
To get rid of the leaves
I noticed that you only got the old fuel line over 2 ribs of the coupling. Did that hold ok anyway? I actually used your video to help with a similar quick connect replacement on my ford. I also couldnt get past the second rib. Not trying to criticize you, great video - it helped me a lot. Just wondering how that's holding up?
So far holding up great, and its been a while so i think it will be fine
For those of us doing it in-vehicle that seems to be where many get it to, and that ain't easy lol. Dorman makes a tool that will pull them together, but only good if you have a decent amount of clearance (would have worked here).
How do you use the mechanical tool to get the part off
push the hose toward the metal line, insert tool, pull hose back
is this the same for the 2001 pontiac grand prix GTP ? same dorman part?
Should be
it worked... thank you !!! you are awesome... @@SalemDoyle
What's the purpose of that drum thing on the railing ( that circle thing). Been working on my brothers car and your videos have been super helpful man! Here is the thing, after installing the rebuilt snout I was trying to reconnect the alternator wire and I accidently touched that drum looking thing with it and almost caught fire but managed to put it out. It left a little hole on that drum thing. Was wondering what was the purpose of it???? I can simply cut it out and reconnect the fuel line all the way over there lol. Thank once again man!!!
I think you are refuring to what is basically a dampener, i suppose it would work ok without it
@@SalemDoyle did it and working fine! One more thing if you can answer this question....is it normal for the cone to leak oil if I put to much in it? It's leaking from the snout behind the pulley...someone else told me it normal if the car was tilted since the seal has some type of breather. Probably gonna need to get a rebuilt one :( do you know of any places to get one?
@@poisondaddy if its too full, yes
I believe the dampener keeps the fuel at a steady pressure (regulates), maintaining pressure if there is a spike or drop in psi.
Hey bro show to replace timeing cover gasket on 3.8 seires 3 my only has 133589 it has small leak the shop normally go to quote me 1265 do the job telling me I need replace hole timeing cover and gasket what do u think bro I just replace water pump and tensioner to and new belt
Its a little odd to replace the cover its self, unless its damaged. I could do a video on it, but it wouldnt be soon. Got a ton of stuff im already working on.
@@SalemDoyle I will send pic of water pump made Mark on it when fail on me
Depending on the significance of the leak. I wouldn't worry about it and just send it. But if it's significant leak. You can change it out yourself. The hardest part will be getting the harmonic balancer off. Also that's completely bull, you don't need to replace the cover or even touch the chain/gear set unless they're bad. Timing chains DON'T go bad on these cars unless something makes them (lack of oil maintenance or running too strong valve springs and/or changing shift points too high). Set of gaskets is all you should need.
@@carnage50x it has small leak but burns off the block would it get oil if I don't put new gasket next couple mouths
Curious, did you have to depressurize the fuel line before separating it? If so how?
If it hasnt run for a while You may not have to, but if you do need to depressurize it just pull the fuel pump relay and let the car run until it shuts off
@@SalemDoyle perfect, thanks again!
No prob
Do you have a part number for that dorman kit? Need it for my 1995 camaro 3.8.
it looks like the new one is : 800-064 but you need the fitting for it. my local autozone has them all instock.
Yeah i bought that kit and installed it this morning. Was a very easy fix. Thanks for you help and posting the video.
No problem. Glad it helped
@@SalemDoyle Looking at 800-064 at several stores and even Dorman, there is no indication of it having the push on fitting. Just tubing and two couplers.
It should have everything i showed here
Total un related but any chance of a double din radio install also a leaky trunk lol
I can probably do that
I didn't want to fuck with my lines so I just bought only the end pieces. fished the o-rings out and put them in my old lines.
that works too
Can you possibly do a video on completely replacing the nylon fuel lines with rubber or new nylon?
I might be able to. I will see what i can do
You're going to use water on a gas line
To heat it, yes
