My suggestion for those who is playing for the first time is... Choose what you like. Though if you want my take on the class story... Knight's a straightforward Light vs Dark/The Original Trilogy/KOTOR-lite. Consular is an Obi Wan Simulator (being the wise guy) with talks about history of planets, Jedi, Sith, etc. but if you like lore, you gonna love that. Trooper is your army action movie IN SPACE. Smuggler is just you and a gang of Misfits mucking about, getting ladies and credits in droves. Sith Warrior is about becoming a Darth Vader like figure, starring our Lord and Saviour Darth Baras (he's your Master). Sith Inquisitor is a rags to riches story, with themes of slavery and binding, more lore heavy like the Consular. Bounty Hunter is just The Mandalorian, but with more focus on Bounty Hunting. (no baby Yoda, tho) Imperial Agent is a Bourne trilogy. And that's all she wrote. Hope this could help. You can add your takes in the replies, too.
While I definitely want to go through them all, I just started with the ones that had the most appealing gameplay styles. Now with 7.0, I think I'm still gonna stick with the order I was gonna do them in. I already started on Knight with a Guardian, but I kinda regret not starting as a Powertech Bounty Hunter, it just looks so much cooler than I thought it would be!
Gonna start playing swtor for the first time now and going to use your comment for choosing future classes. I love underdog stories so I think I'll start with the inquisition, thanks!
just stumbled upon this video, this one of the most concise and genuinely well done explanation of the games class system, really like this one. cheers
The first class character I created was the Jedi Knight, but the first story I completed was the Sith Warrior. Today, after 3 years of playing SWTOR, the Jedi Consular and Sith Inquisitor are my favorite characters and stories, with the Sith Warrior being an "honorary favorite" for being my first SWTOR experience. As mentioned by other commenters, the Consular and the Inquisitor are lore-heavy, and I love Star Wars lore, especially those surrounding the Jedi and the Sith. My recommendation is to try all stories and characters at least once and see which you like the most. With fewer restrictions to the choices in combat style, you can enjoy the experience in any way you desire. EDIT: Ileva, you've done a great job introducing the SWTOR game to newcomers with this video! It has helped me a great deal! Thank you so much! Subscribed with notifications!
I am having a blast playing more lightsided Sith Warrior - still taking dark side choices when i deemed them necessary. I find it hilarious when I don't kill defeated Jedi - they just leave confused and asking themselves "Wtf just happened, weren't Sith evil??Was I more bloodthirsty than a fucking Sith??" I see my Sith as someone who believe in the Empire and despises being evil for the sake of being evil and fucking over good officers, just cause you are Sith and incompetent....
@@jaredhenager9379 The best is when your Sith starts quoting Jedi philosophy, at the Jedi trying to kill him/her and it drives them into rage :) If you are light- side when you recruit Jessa, it basically drives her master insane and he starts raving while using dark side.....Jessa was like "uhmmmm ok, imma go with the nice sith guy, to escape the lunatic Jedi" :)

What an excelent guide! First story done is still my favourite, eve if it goes against general opinion: the consular! Felt like very "movieesque". Will create a new toon in this expansion to do it again
Personally, I started with the Jedi Consular. I heard it was one of the best stories to really learn about the worlds and the races in them, while getting a feel for the game. As of posting this comment, I just finished my Class Story on my Consular this afternoon. I had a BLAST! The fact that I had so much fun and only played 1/8 of the game's main storylines has me BEYOND excite to play the other stories. Right now, I want to work my way through all the expansions on my Jedi Consular and then I'll probably make an Imperial character. I'm trying to pick between Imperial Agent or Sith Warrior, both are calling to me!
My first character was a shadow, it was the first story I did to the end. Then I switched to the empire side and alternated between a marauder and a bounty hunter. In the end my favourite story was my bounty hunter. On the edge in light and shadow working only for credits.
If you play swtor in 2023, choose any class you like, all good. The only advice i can give, if you enjoy story, character development, rpg aspects etc - choose a force-user. It would make a lot more sense story wise.
Just returned to this game after being a beta tester for it played it for a month then stopped , but now back in and so far impressed and enjoyed your video thank you
Ha I’m about to do the same thing. Played beta and a few months after launch. Haven’t had a of since then. Picking one up here in a month or so. So excited to come back and see what’s changes
Smuggler gunslinger was my first character and is still my main. I love the fantasy as man with a blaster or two carving their own destiny. I like that I can switch between a run and run or a more tactical approach. The story isnt the best but I still really enjoy it. Bounty Hunter is a very close second and is easily my empire character.
this was so good and helpful. I started after a long break again. Started with Sith Warrior. Best Story...i think i liked Bounty Hunter most of everything i played
Unless your in it for endgame, playing a healer is pointless because you get companions and you can set them to healer and then play the game how you like it.
Great video. Really made me rethink my preference on what I want to play for my first time in SWTOR. Great highlighting and detailing each backstory and class. Keep up the great content 😁
Direct damage Sith sorcerer is the best thing of this game. I wish you could even use it as secondary class on tech so I can use the class to play through the whole game on sith sorcerer.
I agree with you, the sorcerer is the best class to play, lot's of damage in a large and wide range... easy to use and even better with a companion in the role of tank, that take damage and keep the enemy busy and away from you... plus you don't need to wait an age for the skills to be ready to use again and again... I wish I could play it on all the different characters... I don't like the ones with guns and blasters.... I find them too slow and cluky to use... you are dead before you can use the skills again... :D
I am torn between Trooper and Jedi Knight. Will probably make two characters but I clicked on this video for details on the styles mainly. I think I will probably go with Guardian and Vanguard as those fit my usual playstyles. I think Sniper or Gunslinger could also be fun though.
I played for the first time this week and went sith warrior marauder! Thanks! Good vid. Gonna try a Jedi consular defender next then sith inquisitor assassin
This is something I have wanted to know since Day 1. What is the order of the storys? Not based on class, but on though line. What chapters should be played in what order to get the full story as it happens?
For a brand new player I would recommend Knight. And as second combat class the opposite:Juggernaut. My favourite class is Agent. A real Bond movie in Space.
Finally a youtube video with a title that is related to it's content :D I just begin to download the game, I don't know anything about it's lore and class system. If you like the very chaotic inner workings of the Sith with there awesome politics then I would suggest Sith warrior or inquisitor because those story lines are some of my absolute favorites
What puts me off this game is that no matter the character it seems like combat is going to largely involve standing skill and shooting at an enemy (and triggering everything on the skill bar as much as possible) while it shoots back and hits you directly in the face over and over again. It looks very silly.
Having tried out all eight storylines i can honestly say that the most enjoyable to play is the Imperial Agent. that said nothing beats slicing your foes in half with a light saber
What lighsaber does your juggernaut use? Also love that the color crystal makes it look like the darksaber, didn't know it was possible to get that color in the game
Still gotta finish my light side Jedi Shadow. Probably he will be the first one to go to the newest content soooo... I'm a bit behind all of it, but not gonna give up! :D Also, must say, that Jedi Consular is slowly growing on me. ^^'
Damn. I watched this whole video twice and I still cannot make my decision. XD sith with double lightsabers here I come. Hope I can change the colors of them.
I have a question: When i select Bounty Hunter i see 8 classes but in video at 4:26, why it shows Bounty Hunter as only Powertech and Mercenary, if i can select one of eight at start.
I found it reallg nice that im a jedi counceler and a sentinal sentinal gives you third form lightsaber combat that is based on leting your opponent attack first and that fits really well with jedi councelers becuse they are the peace keepers who will not harm anyone without having to
torn between juggernaut and assassin, anyone still here know what has a higher damage output, will probably do both but want to know what one will be fastest
1: Yes. You can play the entire base game, as well as two of the expansion, before you have to pay for further expansions, which will then only be one month subscription to gain access to. 2: No, it is not. 3: Of course! If you need inspiration, check out my website swtorfashion.com ;)
First, you don't just pick the class you think you want to play. You need to play all 8 story lines through Act 3. This will unlock some legacy buffs that apply to all your chars. It will also introduce you to 8 of the 16 possible character skill sets. Play the char you like the best. Then you get to pick a second class. If your primary class chosen is not Assassin, Shadow player, or have some stealth skill, then pick Assassin or Shadow for that second class (edit: or the corresponding stealth - force users it is assassin/shadow. I am not sure which ones it is for non-force. I think it might be operative/scoundrel). You will thank me later.
I'm new to SWTOR but not new to mmorpgs. This comment seems like seriously under-rated advice. Thanks for it. I was agonizing of the choice of who to start with, but it sounds like I need to do all of them up to story act 3 first thing. Then I'll have a feel for all of them and have a helpful buff, and I can make a more informed decision about which class to play through the game with first.
@@robbielanoue3269 Yes, you do not need to worry about which choices you make to start if you are new. You are trying for the heroic unlocks and that means you have to play all 8 different story lines, anyway. One of the changes to SWTOR is you can now choose to play the inquisitor line as a warrior (marauder/juggernaut) instead of only inquisitor (sorcerer/assassin) and the reverse is true. So you want to make sure you get a different story each time. What server are you playing on?
Because Inquisitor and Warrior is now just an origin story, which you can choose to play how you want - either juggernaut, marauder, assassin or sorcerer. The choice is yours.
The easiest "mage"-like class would be Madness Sorcerer / Balance Sage. There you only use a few abilities and make it through most of the game without more than that.
The real benefit of STEALTH is avoiding the randomly placed extra fights, saves a lot of time.
4real
Dps matter too. Stealth is good to avoid enemies but does it kill as fast as a mara or sorc? The main difference will be in the hard content.
My suggestion for those who is playing for the first time is...

What is the clas that does the most damage?
Sith Warrior is my first
i went trooper Merc/Vanguard
Please, as a Free to play can I use a marauder and a sorcerer changing battle style ?
No, that is a subscriber perk. You can only have one Combat Style as a F2P
I personally really enjoyed sith warrior because how brutal I can be.
Wait, so with the combat styles, does that mean I could use the Agent's Sniper style as something like a smuggler?
That is exactly what it means :)
baby yoda is all you had to say. great video thanks!
Why is Marauder, Juggernaut, Assassin and Sorcerer listed both under Sith Warrior and Sith Inquisitor... i'm confused
Because Inquisitor and Warrior is now just an origin story, which you can choose to play how you want - either juggernaut, marauder, assassin or sorcerer. The choice is yours.
I already did both the sithclasses D: + Free dlcs
What do i do niow D:
giggles when i see Jedi Consular I think Qui-Gon Jinn Not Grogru lol
Really, I always consider him more of a Knight :)
Well.. powertech is mor like din djarin tbh he uses more his pistol and flamethrower than his rifle
I'm downloading the game now. What of the jedi knight sub classes would you say is easiest for a new player?
Definitely Guardian, but if you want stealth then Shadow is pretty simple to learn as well.
is sith warrior assassin and inquisitor assassin the same? i been trying to find out everywhere lol
It is, because warrior and inquisitor is just your origin story, whereas assassin is a combat style.
@@IllevaSWTOR ooh ok thanks wanted to be sure
is there a 1 button class like mage in wow,i hate rotations and looking at timers and shit, thanks
The easiest "mage"-like class would be Madness Sorcerer / Balance Sage. There you only use a few abilities and make it through most of the game without more than that.
I don't mind what story I just want a class that fits my playstyle.
I was really hoping for a jedi that could swap to dual blasters. sadly limited to only force based classes
Marauder is like Asajj Ventress
