Gday John,In a past life I used to build experimental farm equipment for the AG dept here in Western Australia and used to tack the machine together first then dismantle and fully weld. If you are doing a lot of tacking up then don't use the auto helmets as you get micro flashes and after a day the eyes know all about it. Use the old type shields for tacking up and then you can go over to the auto shield. Just a tip from an old welder. Cheers Cobber to you and yours Ross
John, A great introduction to TIG welding. You covered the hazards and safety very well. I have heard that with taller bottles of gas, they can (if not secured) fall and break off the valve. With several thousand psi of pressure in the bottle, it becomes a missile. It can wreck your shop and kill you in the process. I don't know about prices in the UK, but here in the US, the larger the bottle you can get the less the gas costs per cubic foot/cubic litre. Thanks for the great video. All the best to Debs! Have a good one! Dave
Hi John - your channel is great. You are a very, very relatable youtuber - I really like your honesty - everyone who's ever spent any time in a fabrication workshop knows that we all swear and cuss, and you're no exception. Just very, very genuine as well as knowledgeable and multi-skilled. The bloopers vids are hysterical - again totally relatable, plus I reckon you must eat plenty of veg!!
Nice vid. Your so right about covering up the skin. TIG is such a clean welding process one is tempted to forgo the gloves and skin covering. Besides skin burn (like a sunburn from beach) you also increase your chances of developing cancer or skin and it's a cumulative process.
Great video. I don't think I have ever seen anyone do a better opening for a review. I am sure the actual review will be just as good. Thanks for the video.
Cheers John for that intro. I was just talking to the MD week before last about this machine. I too have the 201 Rtech but looking at going up to this digital one plus their water cooler. I look forward to the 2nd part.
Hi john great video tutorial good info and practical, i have the rtech 210 digital tig and trying to get my head around it , i have found your videos very helpful and informative, cant seen to find anything after part 2 reference the 210 ? am i missing something
Hi, these single phase digital sets really are awesome, we do a lot of commercial aluminium welding and have the Thermalarc version (very similar) and its definitely the go to machine. We just switched to the thumb wheel torch but wish we hadn't, give me a pedal anyday. They perform just as well as a stick set too and because they're so compact they're easy to put in the back of the van and will run of a reasonable sized generator. Great review, looking forward to seeing it lit up.
So epic, comrade. Free independent open source for a better world - we needed a welder for worldevelopment e.V. open source machine development (Github) and until we have an open source ecology welder ready we didn't know what to buy! Thanks to your detailed review, we are set on buying this NTF 210 welder on Amazon. Not sure though if the touch screen interface can be repaired easily once it is broken. Let's hope it's holding long enough to help us construct the main global village construction set to have enough time to find a possible electronics repair (open source) solution and put it up on the net. For now let's hope it will hold. It will eat up all my financial resources ... thanks for sharing again
HI John This might sound like a dumb question but I have a mig welder would the tig welder be better the a mig ? I just do general welding mostly steel did do a couple of alloy cases thanks Best wishes to Debs
Hi, John what type of breaker do you use to supply your welder, I have the same on a 32amp commando plug with a type B breaker. The welder trips the breaker 8 out of 10 times it is switched on. thanks in advance
+joe wardle Hi . R tech recommend a "D" type breaker this is what I use with the 260 without problems If you have problems ring R tech they will be very helpful . Regards John
I loved that end bit, you gave me a good laugh. I like all the gear the R-Tech comes with, flex torch, proper regulator, quick connect gas line, etc.. I think you said the foot-pedal was an option, but at least the option is a quality foot pedal, not those big plastic hunks of junk. I have the same one as far as the frame and cable goes, but I assume the guts are wired a bit differently. Could be the same though, not sure...Is it a 22k ohm version? That's the kind I have and it is just gravy on the foot, really forgiving and not hyper sensitive which is important for me with my twitchy feet. Thanks for the show, I'll be waiting on the next bit. See you then...Aloha, Chuck
You are right I have my eyes and watch myself being a clumsy bastard on a daily basis!! Looks like a nice welder, is that the new lightweight torch line, i have the analogue rtech 201 and the lines are so heavy, i might upgrade to those lines if they are good John
Hi John, I'm looking forward to the second part of this review, I've always used Esab and Lincoln welding machines in the past but these R-tech machines look like very good value. I really enjoy your videos, especially look forward to Sunday nights... All the best to you and your family.
The shades, that ranks from 9 to 13, is the intensity, that corresponds to the sunlight 9 times to 13 times stronger, then the sunlight, depending on the welding process being used. Hence why one should not feck about and get dressed properly. Ok, i get off my soapbox. :D

Great video John...! Particularly important is the safety advice.... Please continue...! Cheers, Daniel.
Great start on the review of the TIG welder, looking forward to part two.

Great intro John, I have been thinking about a very similar unit, so this will prove very helpful. Tell Debs we're all thinking of her.

Great video as usual, i'm looking forward to the rest of the welder review videos.
Great start, can't wait to see more.
Wonder whether or not R/Tech test equipment before shipping, as there seem to be a fair few sets which are DOA?
Very nice video John. You did an excellent job. Great reveiw. Rick
great intro John ! looks like a nice welder

+doubleboost many thanks John, I spoke to Dylan at R-Tech, Type D Breaker it is.
Hi, I found Everlast Powertig 210EXT very similar maschine. Control panel ant technical parameters is identical like this.

Nice intro John. Just wondering about the cost of this welder. Any idea of what it retails for.

Good intro to the review John.

i really enjoy your videos, another great one, this is..
its funny, that unit, looks identical to the Everlast version, nearly a clone..
Hi. Can you tell if cooling fan in 170 ACDC model should run all the time? - not on demand like in 210 model.
+Tom J Designs (Pro DIY) Yes they run all the time I think R Tech have a mod for them ring them & use my name
will it work with 230 v socket? (I live in the Netherlands)
You will not be able to operate it on full power from a 13 amp supply

All the best to you and your family.
2 years on now, how are you getting on with the welder?
It has been great only problem has been the wire on the pedal
Due to me wrapping it up to tight
Why don't ya just say it like it is John.. Hehee LOL
Great vid mate, best wishes to Debs & yourself.
