He likes to think he wrote Urban Hymns all by himself. That this was his first solo record. But his live and solo stuff are so bland, empty and fall so short of what The Verve were capable of producing. He’s full of ego, he walked off stage at an Australian music festival without saying anything to the audience. The reason? There wasn’t enough people at his stage. His band manager would address the audience saying his voice needed a rest, he sounded pretty fine to me. Hasn’t returned to Australia since. He gave up the best rock band to come out the uk in the 90s, to be a mediocre solo artist.
@@floytron5924 - TRUTH! Verve were so good that I check out RA solo material in hopes of something amazing. The solo stuff is bland. RA cancelled two solo shows in San Francisco I had tix for. The 1st was for Alone with Everybody tour, RA cancelled 1 hour before the show and then played the following night in LA. He cancelled again in SF because of very poor ticket sales. In 2008 Verve played SF before Coachella and it was totally sold out, Verve always sold out San Francisco! My hope is perhaps Verve will give it one last go and record new material! Fact is, Nick, Pete, Simon and RA have a magical chemistry when they play music together! It is a gift and it's sad that they're wasting it away!
@@floytron5924 indeed, just check out how many monthly listeners the verve get on Spotify compared to Ashcroft, I don’t think Ashcroft even breaks a million, the verve get about 8m listens a month! His solo career has been moribund from the very beginning, he’s a brilliant frontman but not a solo artist!
Indeed, I listened to weeping willow from Haigh Hall 1998 yesterday and this just lacks a bit of everything. In that concert it comes with a transition from Neon Wilderness that suits it really well. I saw The Verve live at the roundhouse in London 2007 and in Summercase fest. in Madrid in 2008 and I'm fully convinced I won't see them again nor hear anythinng new from them, sadly.
This is a tour that had a different arrangement for all the songs, it was entirely the point. The crowd loved it, I was just so close to the front that it drowns them out.
