It is magnificent. The footage of the silent Spitfire gliding in to land, juxtaposed with the two soldiers realising they won't be reviled for being driven back onto the beach, is film-making at its very best.
It's not Hans Zimmer this is a piece composed by british composer Edward Elgar and this version for movie was done by Benjamin Wallfisch using Elgars music.
What’s truly impressive is the melody isn’t even all that complex. In fact, it’s a rather tame melodic phrase, but it still evokes quite a fair bit of emotion.
I think every time I hear Zimmer I'm in heaven. If they will not give him an Oscar for this soundtrack they will not give him an Oscar never, ever again.
At the end, when the music stopped and Churchills speech was read out. Then this played, clapping filled the cinema. A few people who were older enough to remember the war was there, I went over an said thank you to all you knew affected, others thanked too. It was quite emontional. I'm just glad the young of today know what they went through.
Seeing the movie in IMAX 70mm yesterday was an experience I'll never forget! The images, the sound, the emotions and struggles of the soldiers and of course, the music. This film was immersive, intense and inspiring! It's one of Nolan's best films.
Don't agree there. I thought The Dark Knight Rises, whilst being a satisfying and epic conclusion, was quite sloppy at times. Interstellar was beautiful, had great concepts, actors and premise but the execution lacked in subtlety and better dialogue. Two mistakes, I felt Nolan learned from in Dunkirk.
Nicolas Waldvogel I completely agree with everything you said but isn't it crazy that the guy's worse films are actually Interstellar and the TDKR ? x) these are two wildly ambitious and very accomplished movies
I agree with you but this is not one of his best composition, interstellar and inception (and even man of steel one of his most underrated creation) are at the top. This ost is more focused at create tension, is not so melodical, nonetheless to us, the fans, is still a epic composition.
@@georgehazard3189 I imagine in a couple hundred years' time, and beyond, Hans Zimmer (along with others like John Williams, Howard Shore, etc.) will be remembered and studied like the great composers of the Baroque, Classical, Romantic, etc. periods for the entertainment music of their time (e.g. choral, opera, ballet, etc.). The medium/method of popular entertainment consumption may have changed but great musical composition will endure. In this case, Hans Zimmer's music (and other film musical compositions) may be divided into multiple categories, melodical forefront and emotion-evoking background perhaps being two of these.
Listening this makes me feel so calm, it makes me feel like a war inside me just reached the end. Zimmer composes and Nolan figures out how to materialize all the epicness behind.
That sentence struck me the most.. unlike rest other war movie, this film was more concerned about the Human lives involved in it. Amazing Christopher Nolan ❤️
Interesting definition of "never give credit" when their names are literally there on the official soundtrack upload. Another clueless person who's heard some hearsay and thinks they know what they're talking about.
Well of course on official releases. Videos on RUclips and other platforms will often label them Hans Zimmer whether or not he wrote the specific piece, or only credit him for the full soundtrack. Not sure how much we can blame Zimmer for that actually.
I have enjoyed every single Nolan/Zimmer movie I've seen. When I heard about Dunkirk, I figured it looked pretty interesting, may as well go see it. When I heard it was Nolan/Zimmer, I knew I had to see it.
I was floored when the credits rolled. My brother took me as a treat and I was looking forward to it, but I had no idea what kind of masterpiece I was in for. God bless Christopher Nolan and his efforts for trying new things, and daring to challenge his audience. He's the movie lover's movie maker. I only hope he can keep up the good work.
You can really feel the painful crushing weight of everything going on.... It was a true masterpiece. This movie to me was just as great as Saving Private Ryan and Black Hawk Down, even though there wasn't much character building, it really fit into everything this movie was and I will be going to see it again for sure..
Man- the moment of silence right at the end after mvp pilot gets captured- I was so happy they had that- even if it was brief- after all the sound and swells in music... it was perfect...
This song brings back IMAX movie memories. It was a relief to see the survivors back on the train just before the end credits and hearing that music provided a strong catharsis. I had wanted to stay on the theater to listen to the song but the crowds were all leaving.
The electronic rhythm alongside the classical strings of this track are genius, it makes you link the memory of what the film immersed you in with current times.
This is Nolan's best film. It's not my favourite Nolan film but it's just phenomenal. Very happy to have seen this at the cinema twice, once on the biggest IMAX screen in the UK
0:00-2:23 fills me with so much hope and inspiration every time I hear it. And I've gotten to hear it while bidding the customers goodnight at the theater where I work, so that's an added bonus! It's no wonder Hans Zimmer won that Oscar for "The Lion King"! I'd be unsurprised if he won it again next year for "Dunkirk"!
Watched the movie yesterday and was so impressed, action from the first scene and throughout the movie. Though terrible time for those soldiers, unfortunately that's war. I didn't realize my favorite composer compiled the music until the credits came scrolling down. Hans Zimmer you are wonderful.........
This was the only movie I've ever seen where the audience gave a standing ovation at the credits, and left in silence with tears in their eyes. Thank you, to the greatest and bravest generation...
This feels like Britain it feels like home and it makes me proud to speak to others of were I hail and I know in my heart no matter what I say about my kingdom, my country, my almost dying empire I will always love it and stand by it because I'm a British men and I will die a British men no matter how insignificant for queen or king and country!

I just listened to variation 15 and this came up This is probably the best movie I have ever seen in a long time. THe music and the film comes together so perfectly, that it creates a masterpiece
"Dunkirk is, quite simply, a love letter to the British people." Is the most fitting line I have read from any review. People tried to politisise it and make it about Brexit, which Nolan made clear it wasn't supposed to be, but it's about British grit and willingness of normal people to work together to achieve the extraordinary, without question. We do what we need to.
My uncle didn't like Dunkirk being more of an emotional visual masterpiece rather than a more coldly factual film. But I loved it. No emotion depicted was inaccurate. If I could change 1 thing in this film; the scene were the civilian sailor and his son say to the downed pilot "my son is one of you"......a little twist that his son turns out to be Hardy. Neither will ever know that their paths crossed so integrally. Just my input!
When the strings start and drops the title “Directed and Written by Christopher Nolan”
Satisfying.
This movie was a true masterpiece
and it still remains a true masterpiece.
Kevin De Vos my favourite movie
The only new war movie on my favorites list.
The ending made me cry, I kinda got flashbacks of the old days.
I felt like I was there, I had to cry.
same dude such a dramatic beautiful ending. truly a masterpiece
thing is that it does not try to overdo everything. nolan keeps it simple, thus giving us the true harshness and cruelty of the war. loved the movie
Best thing in my life:
The ending of Nolan's film with Zimmer's music.
It is magnificent. The footage of the silent Spitfire gliding in to land, juxtaposed with the two soldiers realising they won't be reviled for being driven back onto the beach, is film-making at its very best.
Great example of a catharsis. I can not imagine anyone walking out the cinema and thinking 'well that was boring'
What about "Prestige"?
It's not Hans Zimmer this is a piece composed by british composer Edward Elgar and this version for movie was done by Benjamin Wallfisch using Elgars music.
Must have an awful life then
Words can’t quite articulate how emotional and evocative this music is. So deep and profound
What’s truly impressive is the melody isn’t even all that complex. In fact, it’s a rather tame melodic phrase, but it still evokes quite a fair bit of emotion.
Everytime a score by Zimmer gets to deep notes my ears get closer to heaven
I think every time I hear Zimmer I'm in heaven. If they will not give him an Oscar for this soundtrack they will not give him an Oscar never, ever again.
Bartłomiej Olek google the oscar jury. belive me, they dont know much about film or art.
Could you do Dunkirk Home one hour 4 minute mark version. That soundtrack is orgasm to my ears. Truly felt the spirit of Dunkirk at the 4 minute mark.
Deep notes. You know nothing about music, and it shows.

yeah that was my favorite moment in the film I think! Incredible shot!

I saw this movie and boy it was more emotional than I thought it would be. It's an intense yet emotional movie.
Not really emotional at all
Shaun Poland
Are you sure about that?
Shaun Poland even i had same opinion but after watching it again i have to say it was emotional
yah im going to see it again soon i couldnt watch it in 70 mm the first time cuz i was on vacation in orlando
A. K. I almost cry bro
I've been jamming to this entire soundtrack for an hour now, and I doubt I'll be stopping anytime soon.
mad lad
Saw the movie today! People gave it standing ovation in India.
Nishant Kumar Where this miracle happend.
Nishant Kumar which place n theatre
I saw it in English in Greater Noida Cinnepolis cinema. The
Grand Venice.
Nishant Kumar Chalo its good to see that atleast somewhere in India people are sensible enough to appreciate

Our dad's had Spielberg + Williams. We have Nolan + Zimmer
Burton-Elfman,Zemeckis-Silvestri
Lol too bad Horner is the past now
Nolan + Zimmer = Leone + Morricone :)
Our Dads had. no apostrophe.
Agree
Nolan be like,
Zimmer, you complete me.
Sarhad Choudhary Nah mate, the film was Absolutely brilliant. True it needed a good soundtrack and it has one, but the film is amazing :)
Try to learn something about the English language. You are pathetic in this regard.
jslasher1 Let's have an argument. Give me a second chance.
Sarhad Choudhary no you... You, complete, MEEEE!
Batman: Youre garbage
"What would I do without you? No, you, complete me..." -Heath Ledger Joker.
I was floating when I left the theatre, watched this twice. I'm not even British but I left the theatre swollen with solemn pride and hope.
When the credits started and bass plucks came in I was literally in so much emotion like I've had never felt before in years..
SquidStone You were in Awe of it. I do not think I'll ever have that emontion again. A thank you to all those who were there that day.
The only time I'd sit through the end credits for a film if there's no after credit scene is if Hans Zimmer's music is playing throughout.
same
me too hahaha
Sat for this one. Sat for Blade Runner 2049. Through the entire credits.
Zimmer is incredible, but credit also goes to Lorne Balfe and Benjamin Wallfisch. They deserve praise as well! :D
Is that everyone should understand, Hans Zimmer often gets help, so he made a tide of movies, and never give credit to his employees.
Interesting definition of "never give credit" when their names are literally there on the official soundtrack upload. Another clueless person who's heard some hearsay and thinks they know what they're talking about.
And how many times are not mentioned, it seems obvious that I don't mean by now, another person who should count up to 10 before answering.
Well of course on official releases. Videos on RUclips and other platforms will often label them Hans Zimmer whether or not he wrote the specific piece, or only credit him for the full soundtrack. Not sure how much we can blame Zimmer for that actually.

Again :-/
Yes :), well, is the truth, or no?
Pues si :-)
I have enjoyed every single Nolan/Zimmer movie I've seen.
When I heard about Dunkirk, I figured it looked pretty interesting, may as well go see it. When I heard it was Nolan/Zimmer, I knew I had to see it.
I wish there was a channel where someone could provide a one hour version of this song
Dunkirk is fantastic. What immersive nolan movie has passed us. And what a fantastic soundtrack. All fantastic without words.

Zimmer is a god at composing and Nolan at directing.
One Hour Soundtracks *on
A god at composing scheisse.
Shashank Shekar and Mister mathers is the rap god ;D I agree with you!
you definitely have yet to check out malick :)
@Esteban LimonYou should see Hans Zimmer live in concert. Mind blowing!
I often listen to Variation 15 and End Titles back to back. It just transitions so well and its so magnetic I cant just pause the music.
I don't care what they say. This is one of the greatest war movies I've ever seen
Hans Zimmer made me cry a lot.
A true War movie. The real story of courage and despair. Hats off. I could walk thousand miles to watch such a movie.
2:28 is a classic Zimmer-Nolan ambience and feeling. The familiarity feels so good. The evil that pervades the senses and infiltrates the mind.
One of the greatest pieces in history of film music.
You can really feel the painful crushing weight of everything going on.... It was a true masterpiece. This movie to me was just as great as Saving Private Ryan and Black Hawk Down, even though there wasn't much character building, it really fit into everything this movie was and I will be going to see it again for sure..
0:02 dude that bassline is so fucking awesome
It sounds like my computer rebooting.
synthwave ftw
Once I heared that I felt so relieved after that intense film
Yeah!
tbh it sounds likes stranger things and i love it
When the movie was over, everybody got up. But as soon as I heard this music start, I sat back down.
Nolan's work held my soul to the chair =D
One of the best movies I’ve ever had the pleasure of watching. Definetly one of Christopher Nolan’s best films.
That scene when all the ferries line across the coast ...HOME!!!!!
One of the best scenes!! :)
Man- the moment of silence right at the end after mvp pilot gets captured- I was so happy they had that- even if it was brief- after all the sound and swells in music... it was perfect...
I think this is possibly the greatest film ever made
Love this.
Funny seeing you here. I used to listen to your music 10 years ago.

I watched for the third time yesterday, gonna watch again
Ist time now

Out of the world music by our hans zimmerrr....!
Love the chord change after 1:52. The French horn that follows has Hans Zimmer written all over it.

The perfect ending to this film was the reading of the "We shall fight on the beaches".
Nolan and Zimmer had a perfect combination in all movies. They both are born for this.
This movie really showed how everyone can be a hero
This is perfection. This is a M A S T E R P I E C E.
Simply Amazing Hans Zimmer.....Zimmer + Nolan= masterpiece
Fabulous end title. I saw the film twice in IMAX and stayed to the end just to hear the music.
Man I am jealous of u now...
Always wanted to watch a Nolan movie at IMAX...maybe Tenet this year...
I would give Zimmer a Nobel prize just for the ending titles !
They should rename this track "Relief" or "Now You Can Breathe" because it was a perfect release for the audience.
I tottaly agree with that
This was the only movie I've ever seen where the audience gave a standing ovation at the credits, and left in silence with tears in their eyes. Thank you, to the greatest and bravest generation...
Awesome. In tears.
Love this! Hans the man is back with another beauty! Saw him live again this year. Can't recommend highly enough!

Damn...seeing the film in IMAX was really intense.

@@TheProtagonist2020 Music By Hans Zimmer
I love Zimmer as much as the rest of you, but Lorne Balfe is a seriously underappreciated composer. He is arguably as good as Hans.
JJ Gabbay Balfe's score for 13 Hours has become one of my favorites. Not since Black Hawk Down has the music in a scene made me cry.
Balfe has assisted in most of his great works.
5:40 - 7:13
to me this is the best part. It sounds like how Dunkirk must've sounded/smelt/looked/felt. When a bit of ost can achieve that, you know you've got Hans Zimmer on your hands.
This film made me see with my mind s eyes my own father as Young soldier în ww2 .
So much emotions .....
Couldn’t believe it’s 2 years since Dunkirk. Can’t come outta this track. I would have listened like 100 times

What a great film.
I just driven home listening to the soundtrack, when turning in this came on. All I though about was 'I'm home'. The Emotions they just have felt when getting back.
This movie was amazing. Only one of the movies that I was actually sad about ending. I wanted more. Simply breathtaking
When that bass line kicked in at the start, ugh, chills
The Score is truly the best part about this movie!
The simplicity is yet complicated, every note is expressed with an unconditional love for music
Hans zimmer is by far the best orchestral composer ever to be known to man
Something truly special happens when Nolan and Zimmer get together.
I just listened to variation 15 and this came up
