The lore of Eureka 7 is actually relatively simple, and it is *fully explained within the original series* itself. Basically, Earth was taken over by an alien megafauna coral-type assimilationist organism called the scub-coral, this causes humans to leave the planet and wander in space for 10,000 years. Meanwhile, the megafauna becomes sentient and realizes it is completely alone on the planet with no one to communicate with and enters a dormant state. Eventually, humans return to "Earth" but the elites hide from common people the fact that they have returned to their original home planet, so they believe they have landed on an alien planet, whereas in reality, it's just Earth, but with an extra layer of coralian formation on top of the surface (The original Earth's surface still exists underground). So eventually, the scub-coral figures out that humans have returned and takes a more careful approach towards making contact through the girls like Eureka while Holland's brother finds out the secret history and attempts to destroy the planet because he thinks it is emasculating to coexist with the scub-coral, given that it originally caused humans to exile themselves off their own planet
The original anime was easy to understand. I don't know why there's a EVA comparison. Now the sequel and that one AU film, yes. I remember scratching my head right after watching that one AU film. The sequel series got complex in the end with it's in-universe retconning, and rewriting it's happy ending by dumping your kids to other universes due how your home universe has a poison atmosphere to your hybrid kid.
Except for that Anemone is an engineered Human-Corallian Hybrid for the purpose of tagging the main "brain" of the Corallian" to be killed. Otherwise the story is rather straight forward. It's mostly a story about redemption by the main members of Gekkostate (Why Taiho, Holland and Eureka defected from the military), self exploration (Renton's growth through multiple crisis, his inherent childish approach to love for Eureka), the case study of human's hubris (How they tried to claim the planet is new, how they act like they had shit under control when it's more of the Corallian subsiding towards humans in turn for observation etc). It is easy to get dragged in the grandiose of how they present the story in the anime, but it's not trying to be overly edgy (If you want edgy go watch Xam'd no bouen, that shits wild).
Sequal what sequal. I don't know what you all talking about. The is no second story. Even if you were to wave it in front of my face I am sure I would see nothing.

Spoiler alert❗: I watched the whole Eureka Seven AO and I hated it. The plot basically goes like this: AO is the son of Eureka and Renton. I don't quite remember, but he gets recruited by some organization to drive a Nirvash because he is the son of Eureka, so he is the only one that can drive it. Eureka disappeared when he was a child and accepts in order to look for his mom. This brat hates Renton because he believes he abandoned Eureka. As the series progresses, we learn that Eureka previously had a still-born child because, since the baby was a hybrid between human and alien, somehow the air killed the baby girl. For that reason, when she got pregnant with AO, Renton and Eureka decided to time travel to the past when the air was not as filled with the substance that makes the machines fly in the air, so that the baby can survive. They get separated, and that is why he was not with Eureka when she had AO, and Renton spent the whole season looking for Eureka in different timelines until he finds AO. What I hate the most about this season is that they made Renton a terrible father. When he finds AO, instead of acting like a confused, but loving father, that somehow finds his son all grow up (more like his character) he absolutely does not care about him. He only cares about finding Eureka and totally ignores his own son. It was almost like he despises AO. Renton even hits AO with a soccer ball in the face (accidentally) and does not even apologize! WTF!? Another aspect is that we never see any of the previous crew member, never and it is disappointing. The ending is even more terrible. AO basically ends up sacrifing himself so that his mother can reunite with Renton and, for some reason I cannot recall, he ends up time travelling infinitely without been able to be reunited with his family ever and probably dies inside the Nirvash, I don't know. In summary, a boring and despicable sequel.
Renton does care about Ao but he knew he would try and stop from using that time gun to completely erase the scrub coral from reality or something, which in turn affect / erase everyone who apparently had bits of sc in them like Aos friend Naru. There was also the fact the gun could only be used once more and using it up would leave Eureka trapped in time. .... Damn it's been years since I've seen it and I'm surprised I can remember this much. And I still hate it 😂. I swear there's probably no anime sequel that I actually like.
An older looking eureka doesn't make a lick of sense, she was born in that form and remained in that form for all the years of her life. She doesn't age, she's not human.
It is so perplexing to me why anyone thought a sequel to Eureka Seven was ever necessary. The original show does such a good job at conveying its themes, developing its characters, and ending on a satisfying and meaningful note. It's a great self-contained story. The only thing they should have ever done beyond the original show was maybe some spinoffs involving new characters in the same setting and timeline, or perhaps origin stories for some of the Gekkostate members like Holland or something.
Man, the Eva rebuild movies are so misunderstood. You have to look at the show, EoE, and the Rebuilds as one big meta project. See, the show said it's piece and ended on a pretty positive note with Shinji learning the core messages of the series - you can't close yourself off and you can't run away from your problems. But a lot of people didn't get that - so in comes EoE. Anno is pretty mad at this point. He restates the message, making it even more on the nose. As a sort of retaliation and mirror of the audience, Anno has Shinji learn his lesson much later, consequently making the ending much darker. However, many people still didn't get it. Seething, Anno cooked up a final solution. With the Rebuild films, he first gave Eva fanatics everything they wanted - all the waifu-bait, all the callbacks, everything -, only to rip it all away and cast them into a spiteful unknown that culminates in the literal erasure of Eva's as a concept. It's extremely telling that the last scene of the Rebuilds is salary man Shinji and his girlfriend/wife (who I'm pretty sure was inspired by Anno's own wife - which would make sense since Shinji is a projection of his younger self). I mean, the last shot is literally an aerial view of a real place - it's screaming "go live in the real world now". Unironically spiteful genius.
You have it backward. Mari (the new waifu) was basically Anno's self insert. Anno's wife (moyoco) was having a terminal depression just like anno. By helping his wife recovering from her own depression, anno also eventually start learn to cope with his own depression In the movie mari was shown to help shinji dealing with his depression a lot and fans mostly mirror it with moyoco helping anno get over his depression. However interview revealed that it was actually the opposite
@asmodeusguys4472 They wanted the rebuild movies to be dark, edgy and full of depression like the original. Rebuild ended up being the complete opposite and they can't handle the change so they whine like little entitled brats. Evangelion can be whatever it wants there no rules saying it alway should be what the original anime was. But Evangelion fans are to stubborn to accept that.
My favorite part is when any of the couples are falling from high up enough that they get to relax and cuddle, I literally cry every single time and the only sequel Im aware of is the Princess Tutu crossover so it's a spinny dancy falling ducky love fest and Im getting goose bumps...
I remember being so hyped for Ao but god did that series suck. The whole importance of coexistence theme was just thrown out the window for your basic ALIENS BAD bs disposable plot. The the trilogy films were straight up ASS. Pocketful of Rainbows is the only spin off I can forgive. Self contained, cute little spinoff that gave us long haired Eureka.
Holy shit this video warmed my heart. I was 15 in 2005 and stayed up to catch this on adultswim, one of my best friends was in a college band called Gekkostate, lol. Everyone will tell you to pretend the second season never happened. My only gripe is that we never got to see Holland and Talho's kid at the end. The third ED song of the series is goated. You got incredible taste.
Dude! You hit the nail dead centre on the freakin head! The franchise has totally gone to crap! Ever since the first movie, "Pocket full of Rainbows", it was downhill from that point. The studio needs to listen to their fans, figure out what made if a success and expand on that. This was a solid good review you did! Well done! Keep making more of these! Nothing beats a good honest review.
I had no idea there were ever "sequels" to this, but to see one of my favorite anime pulling a Sonic '06? Yeeeeeesh. You've earned a sub for this though!

Had good memories of the first Eureka 7. It stole 3/4 of the plot of the first Gundam, but surfing robots are cool. But after Darker than Black S2 and Xam'd I had no more faith in Bones original works. Watching the first 2 episodes of AO I instantly dropped it, because I knew it was gonna be the same boring shitfest.
I seen the original and it's sequel as well as that one AU movie but I never heard this trilogy till today. Gosh, this franchise went downhill after the original series. EVA Rebuild series felt like a better conclusion of the series since the original anime gave us that weird ending with no budget while the movie had Shinji's emoness blows up all life on Earth. E7 on the otherhand ended perfectly and didn't need to be reworked.
Himitsu Kichi was the superior ending, but the whole OST was solid. Eureka Seven is my favorite piece of media ever. For you to post about how all of the follow ups were straight trash is super validating. Shout out to the Itano Circus.

I remember watching a mecha anime which explain the overall setting quite simply. Giant robots made for construction (buildings, other big projects) criminals started using them to be bad...so they made robots for the police to fight them. And thats it.
Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, Rebuild of Evangelion, Final Fantasy VII Remake, I'm tired of remakes that are secretly shallow time travel sequels that think they're more clever than they actually are.
I ended up watching EUREKA in theaters when they brought it to the states back in 2022 and even though the plot was literally everywhere, I still cried when I saw Renton and Eureka on screen again. The last time I saw them on screen was back when Goodnight, Sleep tight, young lovers (or Pocketful of Rainbows) was shown in theaters in the US in 2009. Regardless of how the series has turned out to be, it will always be one of my favorite anime's of all time. Your video made me so happy because it truly feels like we are such a small community who still loves this anime and breathes life back into it whenever it's mentioned. Major shoutout to the Eureka Seven subreddit who keeps the community alive!
I mean, calling it ur reek ah 7 is correct. Unfortunately Japan cant say words and the dub was told to follow that shit. Dont worry, there totally isnt a episode at the dead end of the show where Eureka tells the story of rentons dad finding her and based on his discovery he named her...thatd be dumb. Because it would reveal that theyve been saying the shows name wrong or something since it indirectly implies his dad had a "eureka moment" and named her accordingly. Thatd be silly, straight goofy. This is why you should wait for a show to finish before dubbing it.
Honestly I think it’s the fault of Bones localization team. Generally there is communication back and forth during translation and localization, and the NA team probably asked a couple times “How should they pronounce “Eureka”?” and likely got the JP team going “Uh… like Eureka?” I think it was a miscommunication, which would make sense because some of the English VAs do pronounce Eureka the English way- like Matthew’s VA.
@@Worsteverything if I remember correctly the dub was handled by Bandai. If so. That explains everything. I swear I've seen multiple dubs with the Bandai label that had me like "this is a tad....faithfully sounding". Either way that dub was most likely a fucking train wreck because the first handful of episodes, JYB's Renton is terrible sounding because they demanded he go higher in pitch despite him pointing out how bad it was. Thankfully that dub was done in the dvd Era so reviews for the early dvds repeated his exact points (of him sounding whiny) and suddenly the team changed their minds 🙄 .
I never watched Eureka, outside of like 1 episode that I sort of remember on AS as a kid which is why I clicked. But from what you are saying, it sounds like this series is/was doing exactly what Code Geass is doing right now with Roze of the Recapture. Bland rehashing for more money.
Haha, yeah...I think it's a telephone game where the names are meant to be pronounced in normal English, but some of the JP VA's could only do the engrish version, and people then began to think this was intended cannon.

AO basically ends up sacrifing himself so that his mother can reunite with Renton and, for some reason I cannot recall, he ends up time travelling infinitely without been able to be reunited with his family ever and probably dies inside the Nirvash, I don't know. In summary, a boring and despicable sequel.
wait.. you didn't saw the extended version? he returned back to his home in the end and his friends were waiting to get him.
@@cheeseburgersuperior1874 Honestly, I don't remember 😅 I watched it as a teenager, I'm 26 now so I most likely didn't
@@aimimoque1155 me too. it was so vague but that extended ending is something that i can't just forget.
Someone speaking common sense!
AO is an utter abomination.
Eureka 7 the original is my FAV ANIME OF ALL TIME. The sequels I don't remember exist. I saw AO upon release then stopped giving anything a chance.
It's definitely special, I personally think it's the best shonen anime of all time. In any event, it's top tier.
Same
Storywriter still gives me goosebumps.
its a pity that if you look for the band and all their Cds the music sounds all the same. It´s like listening "storywriter" for 2 hs
@@danielmartin7547 hmmm yeah but hey at least it's a great 2 hour song.
Thank you for saying this the Eva movies get dunk on so bad
You have it backward. Mari (the new waifu) was basically Anno's self insert. Anno's wife (moyoco) was having a terminal depression just like anno. By helping his wife recovering from her own depression, anno also eventually start learn to cope with his own depression
In the movie mari was shown to help shinji dealing with his depression a lot and fans mostly mirror it with moyoco helping anno get over his depression. However interview revealed that it was actually the opposite
I STILL dont get how people dunk on the Eva movies.
I don't wanna be pretencious, but SERIOUSLY they DON'T UNDERSTAND!!!
@@asmodeusguys4472 The rebuild just sucks, go watch Aoe, that's a good eva movie
"Imagine Malcolm X's Black Panthers, except they skateboard" that does go hard, you're right
My favorite part is when any of the couples are falling from high up enough that they get to relax and cuddle, I literally cry every single time and the only sequel Im aware of is the Princess Tutu crossover so it's a spinny dancy falling ducky love fest and Im getting goose bumps...
I had the Eureka Seven OST on repeat on my MP3 player back in the day, Sakura, Tiger Track, and storywriter. That was my jam!
luv me sky surfing, luv me dance music, luv me robots. simple as.
"Look, eureka. No hands."
Storywriter and Niji is peak!
I had no idea there were ever "sequels" to this, but to see one of my favorite anime pulling a Sonic '06? Yeeeeeesh. You've earned a sub for this though!
eureka seven had some of the best songs in anime. i for sure wanted to watch more of the show because of the music.
Himitsu Kichi is an absolute mood.
I love Get it by your hands, that song is a journey and it fits its purpose for the scene its introduced in. Its so good i dont listen to it often to keep it special
I can still sing shonen heart and sakura to this day. Im not Japanese.
“Don’t beg for things. Do it yourself or else you won’t get anything”.
This and NGE will always be my favorite anime of all time.
Get it by your hands 👏
I remember watching the Eureka 7 sequel series and being so bored I actually forgot it existed.
I can watch an Itano Circus (the swish swish pew pew missle things) compilation all day.
Damn, I almost forgot about Darker than Black S2....what a DAMN shame..
Eureka 7 and Gundam plots aren’t even alike. I’m 100% with you with Bones original animes suck after Eureka 7
@@Yawnz2 Darker than black season 2 still hurts. but at least the music banged
Bones is obsessed whit dark and edgy animes.
Eureka Seven in the wild, nice!
Also we don't talk about what happens after the first smh...
_Taboo._
Funny how things have changed over the years.
Himitsu Kichi was the superior ending, but the whole OST was solid. Eureka Seven is my favorite piece of media ever. For you to post about how all of the follow ups were straight trash is super validating.
Shout out to the Itano Circus.
Himitsu Kichi is classic...actually, all of Takada Kozue's work is well worth a listen.
One of the things that wasn’t mentioned in the video is that the sequels to eureka seven don’t have satou Dai around as head of series composition
Guy also worked on ergo proxy , ghost in the shell SAC and wolf’s rain among others. He’s definately a key figure in the production and imho one of the things that made OG E7 work
You’re right! Good catch!
0:18 There is nothing on this Earth, in this life, or even in the next that will make me call it anything but how you were saying it. That's how that word is pronounced.

tHE ANIME WAS TOITALLY AHEAD of its time, it has more black cast, Latino & people of Color, exploring political, religious & adult theme in the lense of a 14 yrs old ....beter than disney 100% times .... high recommended... watching this is like reaching the skys
That's a good point, E7 is actually the first anime I can think of where the non-asian, non-white characters didn't feel like parodies. It's just really well done all the way around.

I fucking bawled when watching this video, man. Bruh, how could this happen? How could they do this to my most loved shit from the 2000s?
I remember watching a mecha anime which explain the overall setting quite simply. Giant robots made for construction (buildings, other big projects) criminals started using them to be bad...so they made robots for the police to fight them. And thats it.

Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, Rebuild of Evangelion, Final Fantasy VII Remake, I'm tired of remakes that are secretly shallow time travel sequels that think they're more clever than they actually are.
Scott Pilgrim Takes Off was good.
PEAK!!! One of my favorite animes ever, W vid. Its great to see E7 recognition in 2024
Love to see it. 🤝
Generally there is communication back and forth during translation and localization, and the NA team probably asked a couple times “How should they pronounce “Eureka”?” and likely got the JP team going “Uh… like Eureka?”
I think it was a miscommunication, which would make sense because some of the English VAs do pronounce Eureka the English way- like Matthew’s VA.
Didnt they make a movie where Holland and them where kids in adult bodies?
Good night, Sleep tight, Young lovers. Also retconned by the HI-Evo films 😂😂
@@fc3sturbogtrclose, Hi-Evo is more the truth of the franchise, namely these histories were heading somewhere to the madness
I never watched Eureka, outside of like 1 episode that I sort of remember on AS as a kid which is why I clicked. But from what you are saying, it sounds like this series is/was doing exactly what Code Geass is doing right now with Roze of the Recapture. Bland rehashing for more money.

a gendo movie would be like an otakus version of joker, i'd buy it
To be fair I would be interested in a Gendo movie.
How are you mispronouncing ALL the names?! Eureka, Renton, Holland?!?!?!?!?!
Haha, yeah...I think it's a telephone game where the names are meant to be pronounced in normal English, but some of the JP VA's could only do the engrish version, and people then began to think this was intended cannon.
Eureka Seven ended in Wish Upon a Star, Dragonball ended in DBGT's final, and Star Wars in Episode 6
Way to have Dragon Ball end on a bad note.
