RIP John Prine. What a legacy to leave behind
Beautifully soulful on this sad sad mourning. RIP John
Shakey does a fantastic job on this. John Prine is one of my favorites and criminally underrated.
underrated multiple grammy winner?
I hear you there. I can see where your statement could get misunderstood. But he is underrated. Bob Dylan holds the title for poet/lyricist. You rarely hear John praised for his lyrical skills. A lot of his songs just blow me away.
@@emfox6280 yes, a lot of people don’t even know who he is
@@Jaggerx33 They would have to know who he is to underrate him. Slept on, yes. Anyone who knows Prine typically doesn't underrate him.
One of the greatest turners of phrase in the english language. A real idol of mine
I love this. It makes me think of a small bit of land I practically grew up at in northern Wisconsin... . That is my Paradise.
Met Shakey once or twice years back and he was always such a nice dude! Shakey if you ever read this, I caught your show at the basement in Columbus OH and it was legendary!!! I forget which big-time band was playing upstairs at the bigger venue, but you literally had people running from upstairs to cram down into that tiny little cave of a venue! People piled in like sardines as you belted Late July!! One of the wildest live shows I’ve ever been to bro, you absolutely are a master of your craft!
First cover I have heard of this song that doesn't try to do it just like JP. Very well done!
Even down to changing a few lines here and there without changing the song. It's beautiful.
God damn, he is so fucking talented and beautiful.
Joe is beautiful! ❤
Absolutely outstanding and unique version/cover of this song. Beautiful seeing two great artists collide like this
Wow! I love this style and performance, and add to that the range from "Roll The Bones" rocking/blues to sweet country/folk. I am awestruck - probably because a love both - that is when I am not tripping on Vivaldi or Mozart.
Very beautiful song. Makes you think of time and how it passes.
Don't stop man your music feels like everything I've been missing from this store shelf garbage your a diamond in the rough shakes!
This is a beautiful cover! Shakey Graves did an amazing job.
The world misses you John. This does him justice.
Joe you are amazing! Please come back to Massachusetts. I saw you live a few years ago in Boston. I would love to see you again! ❤❤❤❤
Nice version, thanks for posting.
Inspiring interpretation of John Prine's song; I listened to the words like they were new to me and was reminded of Bill Peet's children's book Farewell to Shady Grove.
This is beautiful.
love shakey graves! Had the chance to see him in denver last year.
I love JP to death, but this is version that I'll play from now on. It's more up my alley.
rip John Prine.
I'm just crazy about your music !!! Perfection
When I was a child my family would travel
Down to Western Kentucky where my parents were born
And there's a backwards old town that's often remembered
So many times that my memories are worn
And daddy won't you take me back to Muhlenberg County
Down by the Green River where Paradise lay
Well, I'm sorry my son, but you're too late in asking
Mister Peabody's coal train has hauled it away
Well, sometimes we'd travel right down the Green River
To the abandoned old prison down by Airdrie Hill
Where the air smelled like snakes and we'd shoot with our pistols
But empty pop bottles was all we would kill
Then the coal company came with the world's largest shovel
And they tortured the timber and stripped all the land
Well, they dug for their coal till the land was forsaken
Then they wrote it all down as the progress of man
When I die let my ashes float down the Green River
Let my soul roll on up to the Rochester dam
I'll be halfway to Heaven with Paradise waitin'
Just five miles away from wherever I am
Wow very Cool Loved it
Back hearing this after the recent news of Prine having COVID symptoms and being in "critical condition" according to his family...
:(
Devastated
That capo is wicked cool, along with the whole song
It looks like a capo haha
Love this version.
almost made me cry...
Jeff Andrews shit, I know what you mean! haha
John prine is bad ass
He Dose a good Cover here!
shakey, if you ever read this i hope you'll take a request to cover angel from montgomery also by john prine
Beautiful
Can't Go wrong with John Prine
angel
Shakey makes me feel okay 👌
Can someone PLEASE do a tutorial on this! I love this song and can't quite figure out the picking!
The video is a bunch of footage they gathered from their session which they unkindly didnt share all of, anyways this is hard for me to do a tab of cause I don't have the experience to tab things by ear lol
His capo is changing a lot..
Immaculate. I get it.
I cannot get the picking pattern for the life of me, does anyone know it?
I need a tab on this
leaves me with a desire to hear some Jackson C Frank...
This guy has so many songs out there that aren't on any of his albums, its crazy
Ethan Hershberger this isn’t his song
can anyone tell me what tuning / chords he's using. Tried to replicate it with no luck
That being said, It looks like he's played a few different versions the the creators, but they spliced in clips from all the versions.
The capo jumps around and in some areas he's playing completely different parts of the song and even singing different parts (maybe a different song lol). But the audio is definitely capod on 4th.

How many guitars does Shakey own? It seems every video he play something different.
Monktana not his just house guitars. I'm sure he has a small collection though.

When he laughs though.
Yeah. Why even narrate a verse if you're going to laugh at the idea?
The TVA killed Paradise, KY.
Sounds like Gregory Alan Isakov
Love the song... Wasnt crazy about the tempo
Whoa. Pretty shaky version of Prine's classic. What's with the melody change? I can understand a few note changes to spice up a re-telling, but this is some other song. And then there's the wandering capo (wtf). Then he laughs (breaks character) singing the third verse. Was that due to the pretentious narration, or singing "earth's" instead of "world's"? Finally, why the hell didn't he play that suitcase?
Very nice but an up tempo ending would have added something
I don't get it, the song becomes famous because it is sung in a certain way. This guy takes the same words, puts them to a different tune? It might be great for some folks, but i like the sound of the original (and the thousands of similar versions) and while this tune might appeal to some... not me.
It's not a competition is just his version.
You mad, bro?
rip off
