I got recruited at Hollister at 16! I was shopping, and kept getting stared at by the assistant GM. Finally she approached me and asked if I wanted to apply for a job. I got it and worked there almost 2 years! It was a very odd environment and the rules on physical appearance were borderline insane!

I had a friend who worked at BOTH Hollister and Abercrombie. She needed a job because of family financial troubles and she was the oldest. She also had body dysmorphia and hated her body because she couldn't keep food in her system like she wanted to. They (mainly her boss) fed on that RELIGIOUSLY, saying she's so lucky she doesn't have to worry about food making her fat. She quit both jobs after three weeks and went to work where she wanted to originally at Pets Mart. Those places were horrible to a teens self-esteem and confidence. My mom NEVER let me shop there and I didn't want to. Like my mom wasn't a fan of Hot Topic either, but at least they didn't fat shame you or told you to keep using an ED you medically had no control over.

We'd been window shopping at different stores, and came across A&F. After barely putting two feet in the store, a woman was in our face, calling us beautiful and asking if we'd ever thought about being "store models." Within 15 minutes, we were hired and on the next week's schedule for training. This was during the whole racial discrimination suit, so she was probably like, "Yes! A two for one special!" 😂🤦🏾‍♀️

I'd be literally counting my steps, walking around in circles, that's how bored I was-because I never even got to work with my friend, and very few of the other employees interacted with me (but, that could've been on me too, I was super shy). We were never scheduled for the same shifts, which was the actual only reason why I accepted the job in the first place. This was during the summer, and I already had a part-time gig.

I worked at Arby’s at the time and the GM of Hollister pulled through the drive through, saw me and asked my manager if I wanted to be a model for Hollister but my manager shut him down! My manager gave me the number from him though but I never called for an interview and I’m glad I didn’t, because now I know it’s not a pleasant place to work for! That was 2005. In 2004 & 2006, I was also asked to work for Hollister while shopping there with my best friend, (both times), and it was super awkward because they were only interested in me and not my friend.

I got recruited at Hollister when I was 16. I worked there for like 3 months, and then quit to work at a restaurant. It was so awful lol. But I think I’m just not great with retail. The playlist of the same 12 songs playing over and over and over, no windows/low lighting so you never have any idea what time it is, constantly folding clothes and trying (and failing) to politely prevent people from shoplifting made me feel like I was going insane every shift. You can only hear the same remixed awful song so many times in a day before you start to just lose your mind lol. I also worked at Twin Peaks when I was 20 for a total of 2 weeks. Hated it.
