Ya I feel like because there are no gardens and the grass looks like dirt it kind of blends into the road. It will look much better with a bit of landscaping
Unless you’re out in the country hills , I think in a housing district who really spends time in the front yard unless you have no backyard ? Anyway I think having more space in the backyard can give the main house more privacy from the other places you build 🙂
This exactly. I grew up in town and every house I lived in was only a few feet from the street. But the backyards were that much bigger and that's where we spent all of our time. It was safer for me and my siblings because it meant we weren't playing near a busy street, it was quieter because the house blocked a fair amount of the street noise, and it was much more private. I wouldn't want a huge front yard if I still lived in town if it meant my backyard was going to be tiny.
I agree. Think you’re doing the right thing not moving. Realistically 40ft won’t affect the noise issue, you’d need a lot more to dissipate the noise. In terms of curb appeal, you run the risk of negatively impacting the value if your on a different property line to the rest of your neighbourhood. I personally would also prefer more back yard space, more privacy, more playing space. 8k well get you a lot of other lovely stuff that will make your house stunning.
You sit out on the porch to watch but backyard for parties and privacy and showcasing your gardening /water features and grill outdoor dining but im in Florida and Michigan on a lake.
I would add a driveway around the house, making your family and friends entrance in the backyard. The front entrance cabin be a formal entrance so to speak. If you added a white picket fence with the sidewalk coming from the side to the front door you could create a formal cottage garden in the front yard. Some beautiful urns, roses, even a fountain can turn that small front yard into an adorable welcoming area. It would also make front porch sitting delightful. To the left of the house I would make a gravel parking area separate from any parking in the back. A few cars could park there if you had visitors. Fence it on three sides with the same white pickets. I’d leave about a foot of ground on the road side of the front fence, neatly trimmed.
I agree I think a drive way for the house is an essential and will make it more convenient and better for guest. I was thinking a drive way on the side of the house would work perfectly and not take away from the front of the house and whatever you want to put in the front yard.
That’s how my dads house is, even though it’s not sitting on the road everyone comes to the back door over the front unless it’s like deliveries or something
Or a white picket fence would look and match the feel of this type of house....shrubs, unless they are not fast growing, are a lot of maintenance, trust me, I have hedges and they drive me crazy. But if one isn't anal about it, that would work.....
I would say, the backyard is more important then the frontyard. In the backyard you will have your privacy witouth cars passing by and neighbours looking in. If you want you can put a plank or some high bushes in the front close to the road so it will be more private. In my mom's house we never use the frontyard because everybody is passing by on that side, so it is noisy and people are looking. We always use the backside that is more private when we eat dinner outside or barbecue.
Honestly that’s is not close to the road. Houses in England are so much closer to roads and have public paths in the front too. I think there is so much room on your front yard. I agree once it’s all pretty and to your taste you won’t feel so strongly I don’t think . Xx

If I was going to renovate this house, While trying to keep the ”feeling of an old house”, I Would not take the Walls down in the entryway. I think the room has so much charachter as it is now. Imagine some nice paintings and a round table in the middle with Fresh flowers. I love an open floor plan, but it does not suit such an old house. It would feel to modern and honestly - I think it is weird when a lot of you americans have the entryway ”in the living room”. Of course it is up to you and you can still do an open floor plan, but I would keep the entryway as it is (one room on its own; it gives the feeling of an old house). It is so Fun to follow this Journey! I Can’t Wait to more videos!!!
Good choice to not move the house! I would honestly rather want a pretty and nice large backyard than a medium front and back yard. there's room for a pool back there

I'm working on an old farmhouse in Central Texas and it's pretty close to the street. I suggest spending $4K on a good landscaper. There's something to say for a roomy back yard.
I love that you have your own vision for your own home and you’re doing it. People, No one cares if you would keep a bigger backyard or whatnot because in the end it’s not your home. I cannot wait to see the finished product!!
I thought moving the house was going to be more expensive honestly. But I would much rather have large backyard. I think you could add some plants/ bushes and a fence along the sidewalk and an arch or arbor that opens to the path to the porch. It would create some separation from the road
Same! I was like really only $8000 When we priced having our home moved from the city out to the county we were quoted $50,000 and I decided, I would rather build a new dream home someday 🤣🤣🤣
White picket fence, shrubs and flowers. It will be amazing. No need to move the house. I still wish you’d reconsider the floor plan and put kitchen and living room facing the backyard. You could have an alfresco dining/living space!!!

Like we usually have one around our houses, so no one cant get on your property and to your door, without ringing the outside gate before. And we usually add like bushes and hedges to give privacy from the street
Yup, same here in Australia, we have fences around our houses and it gives such a peice of mind about the privacy. We had a guest visited us from states who keep on complaining how Australian ruined their house look with the fences 🙄my kids keep playing in backyard with me knowing there is a fence and closed gate between them and main road, not like US where anyone can simply walk into your front or backyard.

Our house is very close to the road too and you get used to it pretty fast plus backyard is usually used more anyhow. Once you get it landscaped you'll love it!
I have a fairly similar set up for my front house with the porch and distance from the street. I actually really enjoy it as sitting on the porch makes you feel like you're actually part of the neighborhood and can interact with neighbors if you'd like as well. It's honestly the only time I talk to neighbors and I get info about the neighborhood or those around me. So much value in that!

Loving seeing your cottage renovations and glad for you to have Romeo back with you. I'm glad you are rethinking moving the house .... it's such a lot of money that could be used elsewhere and I think once the porch is fixed up and and the gardens attended to the house will have amazing curb appeal.
I think you made the right choice. Its a huge expense and labor intensive for not a huge impact visually/functionally. Love watching you guys work on your dream house! xo
i think that by cleaning up the front yard and replacing some of that jagged cement will give so much more curb appeal and you won’t feel like it’s too close the street. also fencing the area in may help to section off the house from the street?
Just plant thick tall shrubs to block road noise and give you a touch of privacy. Add a gate and archway and you’ll love that cottage curb appeal.🌻🌿✨🦋💕
i grew up in the suburbs of canada, everyone here has short lawns and small backyards, just feels normal now, ive never thought about adding lawn space to anything since i dont spend time there. i like big backyards tho, my family spends all the warm months back there on the patio.
i lost my mom a year ago. i am a bit younger than you macenna, but when i watch your relationship with your parents and how they help you and how you enjoy shopping with your mom, it always makes me smile. your parents truly seem like wonderful people and i think they probably are very proud of you for tackling your dreams head on, good luck!
Gosh I just love your relationship. It’s so refreshing to see a healthy, fun relationship, after 10 years together (or something like that, right?!) it’s reminding me to look for the moments where we can add some fun!!
I’m so relieved that you aren’t going to move the house. Houses were built then before cars were a part of life like today. It’s more walking friendly and I’m sure you’ll have amazing curb appeal.
Brave, brave, brave. You are giving me even more motivation for the small little (seemed huge, but now tiny by comparison) upgrades I'm doing at my new home!
I'm honestly not at all surprised by the price to move the house!! I mean they're MOVING A HOUSE & an old house at that - I can't imagine how much it costs them as a company just to be insured! I thought it was going to be $10k or more. When you fist mentioned moving it - I thought you seemed a bit nonchalant about it & I thought well....okay.....she's going to do a lot of the demo/ reno herself (w/help from mom, dad & Romeo of course & maybe even Kinsley) so maybe that allows for the cost of something so huge.....Anyway, back to the video to see if you are going to do it....
Totally agree....She should move the house. It is too close to road. i live in a house that is close to the road and if I could I would have a longer front to it.
I was also surprised at how nonchalant she was about it. When she said she would move the house, I was thinking it would be like $40,000. Girl, that is not a mobile home and dealing with the plumbing and electrical would be INSANE. Also because of the water damage I was worried about the damage to the house.
Shade trees in the front yard will help cool it since your house faces the west. When the sunsets that’s the hottest time of the day. Also, when you think about landscaping, please think planting native plants. I’m so happy for y’all.

Years ago, our brother in law moved a house, about the same size. He often said after, was something he would never do again. Everything inside, pipes, wiring etc., were never the same.
i can't help imagining a very english-styled garden in the front yard with wrought iron gate, a hedge fence and a path just inside that leads you around to the gardens in the back!!
it doesn't appear that the front yard is that close to the street. With a bigger yard and building the cottages, you will be happy to have more space from those....so leaving it be where it is, seems like the better choice....with beautiful landscaping, new porch and new sidewalk, it will look amazing!

I wish I could move my house further towards the street lol a front yard in The Netherlands means only work and no enjoyment because no one sits out front ever. I have a large backyard but would love the 5 meters extra from the front. Of course it's different where you're from but I do think that the shrubs and lawn will make a big difference for you.
It's amazing how you took such a massive project for yourself !!! And how your family supports you in it all!!!! My husband is yet to install a bidet I order one year ago 😂😂😂
I think a 19 foot front yard is a good size! Especially if you are going to build guest cottages. If it were a highway I’d understand! You will treasure the giant back yard.
It's so fun watching you dive into your first house reno! I highly recommend steel-soled/toed work boots You risk stepping on a nail and getting tetanus.
I haven’t watched all this but don’t move the house. When you have children you will want more room in the back and for their safety. Also more private space for entertaining. I think your smaller front yard is a blessing. A too big front yard is a waste of space Bigger front yards only came into fashion when people wanted to brag about their amount of property. So I heard.
I'm so happy for you and Romeo. I ♥️ the cute cottage you've chosen. As well as your plans. It's going to be amazing when you're finished. You're so talented. It's inspiring. Ya I feel like because there are no gardens and the grass looks like dirt it kind of blends into the road. It will look much better with a bit of landscaping

I'm glad you are rethinking moving the house .... it's such a lot of money that could be used elsewhere and I think once the porch is fixed up and and the gardens attended to the house will have amazing curb appeal.
It would be adorable to put a white picket fence across the front and a stone or brick pathway
The backyard is HUGE. You can have so much fun with that in addition to the cottages.
Yeah Romeo! He was having such fun. I think moving your house wasn’t meant to be and having a large backyard for a garden and cottage will be ideal .
I think once you fix the front porch and landscaping, you won’t even mind how close the house is to the road at all.
Don’t worry about it. I have a pretty big front yard and we don’t go out there much. I’m sure once you clean it up it will look fantastic!
i grew up in the suburbs of canada, everyone here has short lawns and small backyards, just feels normal now, ive never thought about adding lawn space to anything since i dont spend time there. i like big backyards tho, my family spends all the warm months back there on the patio.
i lost my mom a year ago. i am a bit younger than you macenna, but when i watch your relationship with your parents and how they help you and how you enjoy shopping with your mom, it always makes me smile. your parents truly seem like wonderful people and i think they probably are very proud of you for tackling your dreams head on, good luck!
I swear her and her mom are twins 👯♀️😂😂😂😂
“HELLO, you hear the echo?”
“HELLO!!!”
Two divas
It's so cute to watch you and Romeo together, you look so happy, your smile is huge!!! So happy you guys are together again.
I was curious to see how the house would look moved back but to be honest, I'm excited to see what you do with it anyway.
And her window boxes will be fly ...butterfly I'm hoping:)
I thought the same thing when she first mentioned it!! It makes much more sense now
Totally agree....She should move the house. It is too close to road. i live in a house that is close to the road and if I could I would have a longer front to it.
I didn't think the price was all that high. I thought it would be a lot more personally.
Your channel is legit the only channel I have ever followed on RUclips! Love LOVE living vicariously through you as you tackle a dream I cant wait to tackle myself!! Cant wait to see what you guys accomplish next!!! 🤗
Welcome home Romeo!! I missed you and your antics! You make MaCenna so happy, the smile she has when your around just makes me so happy!!
Im so sad you wont be moving the house, because i was picturing big beautiful cottage style gardens and beautiful landscaping, but whatever, it is what it is. Im sure with the right landscaping you'll make it work. Loving this series, for sure! 💚🖤💚🖤💚
So excited for this house. After years of remodeling rentals for others, now to invest in your own property is so rewarding! Best wishes.
U have such a cheerful personality. Always makes me smile with you when I’m watching your videos...especially after a long shift at the hospital
I’m so glad that you backed off the idea of moving the house and save your money because the house itself needs a lot of renovations. I’m so excited to see how this house will looks life after you finish all renovations and good luck!🤩
This has been my favorite series I have ever seen on ur channel I gotta say! So happy to follow the journal and I love and appreciate how much detail u are actually sharing and going thru with channel!
Obsessed btw drafting drawing videos like the design on building the guest cottages!!!!!! Please show how you figure and draw out the electrical, interior vs exterior walls, pumping once u land on design and all that fun design stuff! :)
Years ago, our brother in law moved a house, about the same size. He often said after, was something he would never do again. Everything inside, pipes, wiring etc., were never the same.
"Reunited and it feels so good"...... I love you two together! ❤
i can't help imagining a very english-styled garden in the front yard with wrought iron gate, a hedge fence and a path just inside that leads you around to the gardens in the back!!
It's Texas y'all!
She seems like such a warm loveable person. Sweet!
it doesn't appear that the front yard is that close to the street. With a bigger yard and building the cottages, you will be happy to have more space from those....so leaving it be where it is, seems like the better choice....with beautiful landscaping, new porch and new sidewalk, it will look amazing!
Your parents are so cool and helpful!! You guys all really remind me of my family!! I love that you guys are all working together on this project!!🤗🤗🤗
MaCenna your voice goes up like 2 octaves when you're with Romeo! You're so happy to be together after such a long time! It's too cute! 😍🏡❤
Take. Care with all that banging around. So glad Romeo is with you. A month is a long time to be apart. ❤️
"I've officially missed you a LOT" you and Romeo are SO cute together
I really enjoy watching you because you have such a joyful disposition. I imagine that your friends and family really must enjoy your company.
I have to say, you are an INSPIRATION!!! I lost my job due to the pandemic. Since then, I’ve started a RUclips Channel on Money…and it is GROWING! Thanks for all of your great content, and to everyone else…NEVER GIVE UP!!!
I have subscribed to your channel
@@shomakothari1575 Oh wow, amazing! Thank you so much!
Your parent’s are so wonderful for helping as much as they do! 💗 I think you made the right choice on not moving the house.
Putting up hedges will give you more privacy and cut road noise. I live in the UK and the whole idea of moving a house blows my mind!
Oh my goodness Romeo is like a tornado. Flexing his muscles. I think you could make that front yard pretty no matter the size :)
I don't know how you have so much energy but its lovely to see your enthusiasm
It's so fun watching you dive into your first house reno! I highly recommend steel-soled/toed work boots You risk stepping on a nail and getting tetanus.
Good call not moving the house. I can see it with a white picket fence near the road. So cute. Love watching you transform this into something great.
I think you should get ride of the concrete floor at front yard first like the part of demonstration. That's how it feels more likeable to you.
I love a good front yard curb appeal, but a large backyard is even better. Everything is coming together for you sweetie.
So I heard.
there is so much land, sh said it herself. its dangerously close to the road.
I would love my future “forever home” to have a large front yard or gated property with the house in the center. I need that much privacy lol.
Not everyone intends to have children, either, so that's not a great assumption to make.
@@fthurman she said it in previous video so there wasnt any assssssuming on my part :)
Love how your parents helped you ❤️❤️ And so glad to see Romeo on site! Good luck guys 🍀 Thank you for sharing this journey with us!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I need “I’m in a DUMPSTER” merch lol
Bahahahhha 😂
meeeee tooooo
OMG, YAAAAS!
If you make the merch we could pay to move the house lmao
😆
I'm so happy for you and Romeo. I ♥️ the cute cottage you've chosen. As well as your plans. It's going to be amazing when you're finished. You're so talented. It's inspiring. Good call on not moving it. I think you could do some really nice landscaping, maybe even a little white picket fence and it'll look great. Good luck. 🍀
