gonna echo several people here, but you really gotta play the later difficulties. Normal is fun, it gives you the story, but the monsters become so much more intimidating so quickly. Its pretty damn easy to beat Normal with no deaths, but Nightmare and Hell really give you that fear based adrenaline rush as you engage a group of enemies and see your health orb absolutely plummet. I do aggree with that, but i do remember getting DESTROYED in my first gameplay of D2, back in the 2002~ish. But yeah, i had no prior knowledge of the game, and had to adapt. The 3 main characters form d1 are in d2. Blood Raven (Moreina) is the rogue, The summoner, the Sorcerer (Jazareth), and Diablo is Aiden, the Warrior. Leah in d3 is Aiden's daughter with Adria the witch in d1. We also have refrence to d2 characters in d4. The only one i know of so far is the Paladin is the canon killer of mephisto and we kill his corrupted body and soul in a sidequest.
You got the perfect bow for holy fire. The Raven Claw Long Bow shoots explosive arrows. Hooly fire adds to the explosion damage. That bow turns you into a fireball sorc and the only cost is an arrow. hope you save the Bow. it will carry you through NightMare up to act 4 (Fire Damage useless then need to respec into Blessed Hammers or FOH. - Holy Fire adds to the explosion and the arrow hit. It does double the fire damage if the arrow hits. Can even kill mobs through walls with the AOE damage off the bow.
I learned this year that when running in Diablo 2, your armor class effectively drops to 0. And I've been playing this game on and off since release. Part of me wishes I never learned that.
Ah, so much nostalgia, so many great memories. There's one bad thing about DM doing this though. Now that he's finished D1 and about to finish D2 he will soon understand how far the Diablo franchise has fallen.
FALSE - D4 is improving each patch, season 4 is incredible now, still improving and to act like D4 is bad now you are just a troll. Diablo 3 is even in a great spot now, just because you are stuck in the D2 past doesn't mean the newer games are bad. That's like saying a Box tv is superior to a Flat screen because you like how regular Nintendo games look on it.
@@Kanoog improvig what? where? maybe its in a better state now, but the game is still T.R.A.S.H, bad, dull and boring. and to act like D4 is the future innovation of ARPG genre just a troll, stop being delusional. D4 is the same exact monetized item farming game but in a much much much worse and boring way. So yes ppls maybe "stuck in the past", but think about it d2 is a 24 year old game, and his "polished" big brother released in 2k 23. just compare the two games like what and how can you farm items, the class builds, the pvp, the trading, the overall better gaming, farming experience. D2 was already a "finished" game back in 2000-2001 yet you advertising how d4 is improving patch by patch like its their first game of the franchise xDDD man get your head out of your ass, stop being delusional and start thinking. anyway, if you enjoy farming the pit, which is obviously the big innovation of diablo 4, then its ok. keep playing, tell us when you are uninstalling diablo 3 remastered
Watching this reminded me how quickly the nostalgia wore off fast when I picked up D2R like everyone else. While I would still say it's the _best_ Diablo, I played probably thousands of hours back in the day and trying to pick up D2R I couldn't play for very long before I was already remembering how much I _don't_ miss the inventory management, individual potions, town portals and the grind. I think I just played way TOO many hours back in the day and don't have the patience for it anymore, and that's what I liked about D3 and D4's quick accessibility where I can pop in for a few days on a new season, max out a toon or two, and put it back down until the next big patch or season without feeling the need to farm endlessly. I've put hundreds of hours into each with D4 scratching that itch better than 3, but I just don't _want_ to dump thousands of hours into a game anymore. Not when I have kids and responsibilities these days. Especially when there's more than just ARPGs to play that don't suck your life away.
HUH? Get off that June 5, 2023 D4 BAD bandwagon, it's a old ass meme, Diablo 4 is in a extremely good spot right now and it keeps getting better. And to say other wise you are just a troll or enjoy being a pawn with other trolls. I did play D4 at launch, I only got to level 50 because end game sucked, returned to season 4 and have 3 level 100s with some BiS gear. You need to learn how to evolve and stop being stuck in the past. It really isn't good for growth.
Fun facts. The Countess is Moreina, the Rogue from Diablo 1. The Summoner is Jezreth, the Sorcerer from Diablo 1. And of course Diablo is Aidan, the Warrior from Diablo 1.
It's mind blowing to me how one can discuss Diablo content with hundreds of hours into D3 and D4 but without having ever played D2. It's like you have no horse in the race, maybe a snail. Like only watching Disney StarWars or The Godfather III without knowing of the classics.
I would give a lot to experience the game again for the first time. But on the other hand I am very glad to have played it back when it came out as a teen. Imho the best game ever made
We need a second channel for DM full VODs. Watching this playthrough on Twitch right now, but I assume it's going to be gone in a day or two? DM, want me to get that going for you? (indie dev could use the income! ;) )
Hopefully Chat got him to do at least Cows after Baal. Funny to see him go HF Zeal as his build considering that's the best build to go starting off with Pally. (Or was that also some sort of Chat assisted decision? Not chat directed, but helped and or suggested.)
Of all of the voice actors in that game, I have to give Frank Gorshin(Marius) the nod for top talent here. His performance was above and beyond in my opinion.
Diablo lore is the best of all arpgs and that's why it will always be the best. It doesn't matter if PoE has better systems or gameplay, the lore will carry this franchise forever.
Act 3 is so much more bearable with the Sorc or Barb (teleport and leap attack for mobility). 2W slot with staff of teleport is the solution for everyone. Not ideal, but it works.
Watching this has gotten me wanting to play D2 now. I don't have access to the OG D2 like this playthrough but I think the remastered Resurrected should be fine.
That Bow you got is RavenClaw, specifically good for Holy Fire because Exploding Arrow has a glitch where damage of Holy Fire is applied to the skill. It's actually meta for leveling up in D2. Try using it, all of your arrows will explode and apply Holy Fire damage.
the proportions with stats movement and overall design is so efficient in D2, maybe (poe3) hyper sprites [ like in arcsys games with parallax dynamic cel shading using diffrent filters as this 2D remaster looks like this
i SERUOUSLY hope he tries nightmare and hell because its not like the D3 & 4 where its just more hitpoints/dmg - in D2 theres immunities which forces you to diversify you skill choices so that funneling all your synergy into 1 skill will slow you down - best part of the skill tree is when you are forced to consider other skills - really opens the game and up and makes you think about the skills more. Also the xp loss on death is punishing as you get higher and higher and makes normal mode feel like a softcore hardcore mode
21:06 maybe poe2 or until poe3, who knows, if they took these spritelike graphics [like broodwar did as well] but elevated them to another level in their own style the game would take another turn - and also filters with different options changing colours and stuff
What you said about letting new players figure it out first and not hand them 50K stuff to do. Very true. I understand people want to help but let the newbie ask.
Did you really beat Duriel on your first try? My first playthrough was as a sorceress and I had to do some damage, die, respawn, get back to Duriel and repeat until I beat him. It was so annoying. But that was before I understood the skill trees and how important gear is to your character.
I think you should try legend of mir a hugely popular game in asia that had western releases. It was the full pvp PK game that took my attention away in 2001 and is the sole reason i never got into runescape.
Nice that you left the OG graphics but I was suprised to see it includes the old cinematics. They made all new ones and for the most part they are better, those early blizzard cutscenes really do have their charm though.
Started Fallout Episode 1 a few days ago just to check it out and already finished, I got addicted. Defiantly one of the top adaptations ever made. I'd say The Super Mario Bros. Movie and The Last of Us are on that list as well. The nostalgia conversation has some points that make sense and other ones that are over looked, For example, Runescape was popular at a time when people who didn't have powerful computers and could play it at school, public libraries and it became a comfort game for many. I strongly believe if kids right now picked that game up they wouldn't enjoy it as somebody who played it during it's popularity. Here is the player base for Runescape 25-34: 61.8% 13-17 0%. WoWarcraft extremely similar, it isn't bringing in many new players and the players still playing are there from nostalgia, I'm one of them. But it's a widely known fact the player base is 30+ years or older, because guess what nostalgia. Nostalgia begins when the game was a it's hype for the player and it doesn't go away, older games have a challenging time creating nostalgia for a new generation. I mean that goes with just about any medium, music, fashion, food whatever.
More to come, including Expansion + HELL

Been playing through D2 again on my Legion Go i just got. Its so chill playing on the couch while i got a movie playing on the TV.
Playing Fire/wind druid at the moment
29:23 seeing that small charm get left behind un id'd hurt my soul :(
after some hours in D4, I came back to D2R, what a great game, I just didnt have the courage to solo the entier game, now its my new goal to beat the game with all builds on all difficulty
I’m pretty sure we used to do Tristam runs until like lvl 15 or something
People sleep on Cata and Flayer Jungle for leveling, which are area levels 10 and 22, while Trist and Tombs are 6 and 17.
I still remember writing up the different D2 build in a notebook. What points/skills where at what lvl. Got me through boring classes at school :)
"marius actually took a giant L didnt he?" is a great summary of this game
You got the perfect bow for holy fire. The Raven Claw Long Bow shoots explosive arrows. Hooly fire adds to the explosion damage. That bow turns you into a fireball sorc and the only cost is an arrow. hope you save the Bow. it will carry you through NightMare up to act 4 (Fire Damage useless then need to respec into Blessed Hammers or FOH.
- Holy Fire adds to the explosion and the arrow hit. It does double the fire damage if the arrow hits. Can even kill mobs through walls with the AOE damage off the bow.
Bro you found raven claw while playing holy fire in normal? GG
High chance to drop in normal
Act 3 -> 4 cutscene is the best in the entire series. So metal
4:50 "I walked around the corner and in D1 there's about 50 fucking dogs all just shooting you with with their actual horseshit 'hawk tuah'" lmfao.
Darth's take on OSRS not being necessarily nostalgia was better explained than the whole response video to Asmongold
I learned this year that when running in Diablo 2, your armor class effectively drops to 0. And I've been playing this game on and off since release. Part of me wishes I never learned that.
Great vid bud,you should try the PD2 diablo bud:)
U should try beating ubers aswell one day! Diablo 2 ubers are pretty fun :) glad u got around to doing a playthrough tho!
Only hard skill points boost synergies, unless it's a bug like the marrowalk boots used to do for necromancer.
You've gotta try using that longbow. Works amazing with holy fire.
"Faithful to the source material"
I can't wait for the D4 parody video!
Wasn't the Rogue from D1 actually Bloodraven, the boss from the graveyard in Tristram?
@@hasashikisara Oops yeah I meant Bloodraven. The Countess was actually a ruler (Queen?) and her castle was The Forgotten Tower.
Imho the best game ever made
I am loving this play through series!
You haven’t beaten the game until you’ve played through all the characters and gotten all the gg items and runes words.
"horse shit hawk tuah" i spit my beer out.
@Darth Microtransaction I'm Not sure if you know this but you can equip items on your follower.
I really hope that someone in chat told you to try that Ravenclaw Bow with your Holy Fire.
The AoE of the Explosive Arrows is affected by the Aura.
MU ONLINE .... Men i play that game when i was a kid a lot ... the memories
That cat is after the mouse
Of all of the voice actors in that game, I have to give Frank Gorshin(Marius) the nod for top talent here. His performance was above and beyond in my opinion.
Great video!!!
P.S> You can give euquipment to your mercenary.
This man said hawk tuah knowing full well what Frosty is gonna do with that
nobody knows what that is.
If you liked the D1 old school fantasy you might like to play Majesty: The Fantasy Kingdom Sim. Really good old school vibes and fun too
Diablo lore is the best of all arpgs and that's why it will always be the best.
I played the original for years. Resurrected is the best version of the game now. The original is just too dated graphically.
He played D2 Resurrected with the OG graphics. You can switch between the old and new graphics modes in real time with a button press.
@@youdonegoofed I saw that after 10 minutes into the video lol
Nightmare is often quicker then normal, but i would suggest trying to play through hell difficulty, whole different challenge to try and overcome
That Bow you got is RavenClaw, specifically good for Holy Fire because Exploding Arrow has a glitch where damage of Holy Fire is applied to the skill. It's actually meta for leveling up in D2. Try using it, all of your arrows will explode and apply Holy Fire damage.
Damn I knew it was too good to be true that he first timed through hell
Darth, where did you get D1 in 2024? You made me want to play it again, is it the GOG version?
the proportions with stats movement and overall design is so efficient in D2, maybe (poe3) hyper sprites [ like in arcsys games with parallax dynamic cel shading using diffrent filters as this 2D remaster looks like this
i SERUOUSLY hope he tries nightmare and hell because its not like the D3 & 4 where its just more hitpoints/dmg - in D2 theres immunities which forces you to diversify you skill choices so that funneling all your synergy into 1 skill will slow you down - best part of the skill tree is when you are forced to consider other skills - really opens the game and up and makes you think about the skills more. Also the xp loss on death is punishing as you get higher and higher and makes normal mode feel like a softcore hardcore mode
Old graphics ftw
Long bow works great with holyfire
Congrats you beat the tutorial
21:06 maybe poe2 or until poe3, who knows, if they took these spritelike graphics [like broodwar did as well] but elevated them to another level in their own style the game would take another turn - and also filters with different options changing colours and stuff
What you said about letting new players figure it out first and not hand them 50K stuff to do. Very true. I understand people want to help but let the newbie ask.
Summoner Necro with max Corpse Explosion for the goat experience. Conquer Hell with that and you will understand true bliss.
I was like "no way a noob beats hell d2 just going in blind" and lo and behold, heh
Beating all of the tutorial, yes!
Idk if he did or not! But HELL needs to be played through…the jump from NM to hell is wild LOL even after 2 decades it still is something else
I didnt watch the whole video but does he mention an SOJ, ber or jah rune at all? The whole currency system?
Did you really beat Duriel on your first try? My first playthrough was as a sorceress and I had to do some damage, die, respawn, get back to Duriel and repeat until I beat him. It was so annoying. But that was before I understood the skill trees and how important gear is to your character.
He was massively overleveled...DMs approach was to full clear literally every monster.
I think you should try legend of mir a hugely popular game in asia that had western releases. It was the full pvp PK game that took my attention away in 2001 and is the sole reason i never got into runescape.
Normal mode is just the walk through, you gotta take your character back through nightmare and hell so you can get the real loot.
Nice that you left the OG graphics but I was suprised to see it includes the old cinematics. They made all new ones and for the most part they are better, those early blizzard cutscenes really do have their charm though.
You never put any gear on the merc...thats why he was getting destroyed. XD
I mean that goes with just about any medium, music, fashion, food whatever.
why are you not playing ressurected?
he is, he just has the old school graphics toggled
He wanted the original experience for his first playthrough. He switched to resurrected after.
@@newax_productions2069 sad
@@kinseyjr21 got it
dm ranting about hammer and maggot lair had my almost literally roflmao :).
This guy already fails out the gate. Says he's picking the "warrior class" then chooses paladin.
D2 is the game man - keep it up!
Damn I feel like playing D2R now lol. So good!
