The last guy's energy blows everyone away so it's easy to overlook his pen. He carried the same rhyme scheme through the entire story except the fight scene. That's like ~30 rhyming bars including all of the dope punchlines and some internal rhymes

Something you didn't point out is that there lines were he doesn't rhyme but sets up the bar for the following rhyme. Alot of people overlook that because they think you have to rhyme everything on bars but this guy clearly proves that you can have a sick flow, rhyme schemes, and don't even have to constantly rhyme.

Talking about the seed tying into the tree rhyme scheme. The roots also have a song called ‘the seed’. So that’s a double as well as being part of that scheme as he’d mentioned the roots and quest love earlier. Whole group is dope though. They have some other great freestyles and their album is top class imo anyway.

Coast Contra is dope. This track is dope, and other tracks of theirs are dope. This video is dope, and all four dudes killed it. The only thing I have a hard time with (and I know I'm being hyper critical) is that it's not live. They do a really good job presenting it as live, but pay close attention and see that it's not. With that said, these guys are a breath of fresh air, and they give me hope that lyrical hip-hop is still alive. Follow Cliff's lead and go subscribe to Coast Contra!

This is a cool performance but shouldn’t be labeled a freestyle. This is some other thing that we need a different name for. If this type of performance is called a freestyle then essentially any music played live is a “freestyle”. All concerts are freestyles, a busker doing covers on the corner is a freestyle, barbershop quartets are doing freestyles. It can’t even be argued that it is a freestyle because it’s not recorded, you’re looking at the recording. There isn’t any audience and they are in a “studio” of sorts. So in what way is this a freestyle?

It’s a damn shame hip hop has such a huge fan base and there are still clowns like you who don’t know the difference between a freestyle and off the top the head. The term freestyle just means anything that that specific verse wasn’t written for. For instance Kendrick Lamar tapping the swimming pools over Eminem’s lose yourself would be a freestyle since it’s literally free of style like slam poetry .

Back in the day of freestyle was simply a rhyme that was already written. A lot of times when people would battle, they would use those rhymes to do so. Sometime after that, the definition of freestyling changed. Back in the day, modern-day freestyling would have just been called "off the top". So, this is a freestyle in the most definitive form of hip hop.
