We often overlook or ignore how important a pick is to our playing, but it's literally the only thing between our picking hands and the strings.
There's a pick for every player out there and it's just as varying as our choice in guitars.
Mercyful Fate pfp spotted :D
Hellhammer pfp spotted :D
I’ve been using the 6mm Torlon picks for quite a while and they surely do last a VERY long time. Huge tone. You can also reshape the tip without too much hassle. Patrick does amazing work. Well worth the money IMO.
Huge tone lololol
If you don't lose it in 5 seconds :D
Put an AirTag on it!
My thoughts exactly 😬
Thankfully picks are easy to find
@@profanepropanesometimes
@@PressK Just use an airtag as a pick.
Super happy to see someone use the mooer radar. Such a solid pedal that has many uses.
They’re really cool. I saw this guy’s work from KDH. The problem is, how can you figure out what you like when the point to entry is steep and there are SO many choices available? We all know that even the slightest change in shape and mm can make a drastic difference to a guitar player. It’s probably much easier to buy these if you’re in Europe if you’re local to the guy’s workshop or if you see him at a trade show where you have a chance to test drive a few sample picks. I understand that there are no refunds (totally makes sense) since each pick gets made to order, but there’s no “sample pack” to help a person figure out what they like or works best - you can end up spending big bucks trying to figure out both the shapes and mm you like best. I guess this sort of pick situation is mostly for people who have the money to lay out and possibly blow and it won’t matter to them if some/most don’t work out and the money gets wasted. It’s too bad he doesn’t have more local distributors where people can go check some sample picks out in person or at least a refund policy of some kind - I mean, I would think with the insanely durable materials he uses, these picks would be like new anyway and easy to re-buff and re-sell if someone tested a bunch and didn’t like them. And many people would be fine with buying a rebuffed one at a slight discount until the know what they like to buy new. I personally think that he’d sell many more picks on the whole if there was a way to “borrow” a sample pack at a minimal cost, return what you don’t like within a certain period, and whatever doesn’t get mailed with tracking info sent to the seller by the deadline won’t get refunded. This way there’s no giant upfront risk to the customer other than a minimal charge until it’s time to charge the rest for unreturned picks. And if a package gets lost en route, it would be insured so the seller doesn’t lose his money.
I’m not knocking his practices at all. It’s just a very realistic problem where most people can’t risk a ton of money trying to figure out what works, especially when it’s such a drastically different pick - and most of the picks he makes are SO much thicker than anything on the market that it would be impossible to even guess. I’m sure they are worth every cent once you figure out what you like, but it seems like there’s an avoidable way to make it possible for people to have a chance to return.
Clearly this guy must be making enough of an income where he doesn’t want to be bothered to make it possible for more people to enjoy his picks and not waste their money in the process. The customer should be valued just as much as the artist when you’re talking €25-€100 per pick. It’s a shame cause they could really make a difference to so many people who have medical issues with their hands (as it says in his websites) - sadly, most of us who fit that description can’t afford the layout or to lose all that money on whatever might not work out for our needs.
More power to him, but sucks for most of us! 😂🤘🏻🎸
As a fellow swiss, i can definately say that if these 'only' cost 100.-, and takes 3 hours to make, he ain't gonna be paying the rent by selling these.....😂....as always i will try and source some material to make some myself, the thickest i make are 2mm🎸🤘🎸
Patrick's guitar picks are boutique picks that are also for display rather than solely being functional guitar picks. You can find more plain looking guitar picks that are similar thicknesses for around $5 but even the plain ones seem to have an exponential increase in price once you get past 6mm. If you're looking for picks larger than that, you should already have a decent idea of what you want by then. Strangely, his 15mm pick is significantly cheaper than every other 15mm pick you can find.
@ViviSectia It all depends on the material. He's also made a 15mm pick out if Torlon so that naturally ended up costing HUNDREDS since the material is insanely expensive. But I assure you wherever that pick is today, it'll be serving its owner well for decades
my problem with all these boutique 3mm+ pick makers is that I can't get over the pick chirp. They feel nice to use though
I don't mind it tbh, it's kind of like the little squeak when sliding on an acoustic. It blends in to the background eventually and on recordings it just reminds you that it's an actual person playing an instrument
I may be in class for Mechanical Engineering, but the class can wait.
Much love bro, and that intro tone is SICKENING, BONECRUSHING, FACE MELT-ILING GOOD.
I have 5 Hufschmidt picks, they are brilliant.
That intro tickled my brain in all the right ways
Once you drop a guitar pick
It has a 1/4 chance of despawning from our reality
Very interesting video about these premium picks. I'm a little out of a pick collector... Gotta check them out. Cheers!
Seems like Patrick is doing quite a bit of promo lately.
For me, it is just too gimmicky. After a while I always end up back with a bog standard jazz III.
I never quite understood the fascination for using super high performance plastics as a plectrum either. If one of my picks lasts long enough to see substantial wear, I just use a new one.
I still have a few picks I've used since I started playing I don't know how people lose them
My $0.99 nylon picks also last forever (at least until I lose them).
I have a couple of the old Hufglow ones. Though it looks cool I've never really gelled with the sound it produces. Sounds too round and warm for me personally.
a friend got me one as a joke gift and i genuinely love it
I love these plectrums too! Plectrum spectrum is gold.
Their worth it to be honest.on the making side super fair price on the materials and hours making that
I've been using Fender 355 heavy gauge picks for years, so these giant triangle ones look interesting!
I respect the art, but I can't imagine why someone would spend more than a couple of cents on an item that is functionally identical to all others of its kind. Unless I'm really mistaken.
It's not functionally identical though, it doesn't wear and it feels different.
If there were tires that never wore down so you'd never need to change them I'm sure you'd pay a pretty penny for those too 🤷🏻♂️
@@sixstringtv1 well yeah, but tires cost me several hundred dollars a piece. just not seeing the return on investment here.
If I could give you an extra Thumbs Up for saying "Plectrum Spectrum" I would
I Have 2 accounts!
SO I DID!
This is awesome bro. I'll have to try them out !
I think I will stick to my 2.5mm Badazz iii Chicken Picks! I'd use these for recording bass though for sure!💯
I like dunlop sure grip .48. I hate picks with no give. I dont use hard picks or over 1mm. Mostly.07 or less.
Ola Englund uses something like that I think.
Invis strings?
You forgot the issue where we leave them in our pants and lose them on laundry day
How do people use guitar picks that don’t bend ??? 😭😭😭
well I mean he is a metal guy.. name one metal player that plays with a pick that bends
@@LeGeeked. Randy rhoads used a picato medium which is about .88 those are pretty bendy. EVH played like .60 picks. Dimebag also used .88 and included on that .88 wagon Chuck Schuldiner, James hetfeild, Kirk hammet, Scott Ian, Tonny Iommi. Those are just famous thin pick players and hey .88 isn’t that thin but it’s thin enough to where it bends a lot when I play em atleast!
@@SidWalter touché my friend! I’ll have to try some of those gauges. I’ve always preferred 1.14+ and it’s shocking that rhoads played so thin, lol thought he would have atleast 1 mm. Thanks for the knowledge man
@@LeGeeked. haha well I’m glad your a good spirit I was just being a smartass! I made that comment five months ago before I really started getting into my guitar career. For pretty much all death metal I use 1.14 as well. Best gauge no question but for when I’m playing punk in the punk band I’m in .73 is my go to! If 1.14 is what feels good for you that’s what you should stick with but don’t be afraid to explore! I’ve been playing less than a year now and I’ve went through like easily 100 picks to figure out that I like D,Andrea 1.14 brain picks!
@@SidWalter definitely man, no reason to get upset lols. 1.14 for death is a pretty good, i prefer lighter gauges for fast tremolo when I’m playing black metal, but I’ve never dropped below that. I’ll definitely check out some 70 mm.. I really want to buy one of these legacy thick pics.. like the ones in the vid, or by another brand called purple plectrums.
It’s one thing for them to be 35$+, but I’ve seen some demos… not one person has demonstrated that these thick pics can pick scrape lol. Might sound kinda picky but For 35$… it shouldn’t be missing out on something a celluloid pick can do.
If the price is the one on the thumbnail, it maybe lasts forever, but the wallet…
One pick to rule them all and in the metal shred them.
Who would win? Invincible pick vs sofa pillow
for 100 euro it should have an airtag baked into it.
Not a bad idea honestly if batteries didn't run out on those things
Hiya...I was watching your video highlighting all your current guitars, and you spoke of having a custom made brushed aluminium pickguard made in the US. Could you please share the custom shops name? Tryng to get one made for my LTD SN-1. I hate the cheesy plastic one that came on it. Peace & Thanks :) :)
What're the each mm of these picks?.
The one in the thumbnail is about 6mm, the anvil is about 10mm.
For the rest you can check his website in the description 😎
Great video. But I will stick with my Pickboy Pos-A-Grip.
It lasts forever, and I would definitely lose it on the first day!😂
It definitely would last forever for me, because it’s too big to use.
Trust me, you should try one.
Not necessarily the super flagship expensive one but the Anvil is like $35
The one thing I cant stand about these is the amount of "chirp" they have. Somebody needs to find a way to minimize the pick squeak of really thick picks.
Looks like you only have e a d strings on there....i still keep one b.c.rich with 4 in honor of one of my heroes max cavalera.
i'd lose it
If you can find it in 10 minutes 😂
your biig bro KDH already did a video on these picks, and your video echos the same things he said in his.
Oh no, not two people saying vaguely similar things.
This has never happened before on RUclips
Drop on the floor and its gone forever
Kerry King slayer
WHAT GUITAR IS THAT?! BAD ASS
Can't tell you yet but I'll likely have a video out on release day ;)
Great tone considering that the pedals were not even connected🤣🤣
The pedals are connected 😜
It's the rest that isn't connected 😬
Touche"@@Sticky_Tea
You’re ever so slightly clipping something on that intro and my ex-pro audio engineer self is triggered.
Also, I’m addicted to celluloid. They way they wear out very very fast is just something I’m used to.
I swear to god this only happened after the fact with RUclips's compression hahah, I watched this video back like three times before uploading
i like this tone
Wth you listenin to bruh?
Beck didnt need them. At all.
I'll bet Beck didn't write dumbass comments either
Sounds rediculously overkill for picks.
I'll stick with bone plectrums that are $2 and last over 3 years.
I'd rather pay $100 for a crapload of Dunlop Tortex, than $100 for a single pick.
Aight good for you 👍🏼
Nice now we can all argue over tonewood of a plectrum and if you spent $100 on one you'll be validated in that argument cause you spent $90 more then me with my basic dunlop 12 pack. Sure mine will wear out sooner its not made of diamonds and snake oil but ill just grab another and enjoy the money I saved.
Who said anything about tone? Stop making things up and getting mad about them lmao
@sixstringtv1 It was obviously facetious, anyone with a personality would have noticed, try reading again 🙄
You demo a $100 pick and expect people to take it seriously 😆
Unsubscribed 👎
Facetious?
@sixstringtv1 Thanks I didn't know musicians could spell. "Fecious" derived from being shitty while also sarcastic.
It's gonna catch on.
I dont care man, no one needs a 10mm pick, use your fingers the way god intended, this will annoy you it SOUNDS better and IF you are at all competent you can do your pinches and everything the same except BETTER and with more skill :) you have a pointless thing that lasts forever
I'm sure God intended for you to use your fingers to play guitar
@@sixstringtv1 I was drunk man haha its a mad pick
Hey @lomhair, it's clear you missed checking out my website. If you had, you'd know that these plectrums are designed with a higher purpose in mind-helping those with arthritis or carpal syndrome. I've been aiding thousands of players since 2009, ensuring they can continue to play pain-free. Perhaps the gods intended for these players to have an option that allows them to play without pain, and that’s where my plectrums come in. Even those blessed with perfect joints can benefit from the increased speed and efficiency my plectrums offer by reducing movement. So, it seems the gods are smiling on everyone who uses them. Maybe it's time to embrace these divine gifts and see how they can enhance your playing too. Who knows, you might even find yourself playing faster than ever before-by divine intervention, of course! 😄
@@HufschmidGuitars haha excellent man! Looking into it rn :)
For that price it better have a GPS locating device built in :)
