This game thaught me that when someone is making a cool entrance pre fight speech, its best to just immediately hit them in the face with a bicycle chain.
And lose Reputation (Yes, interrupting a boss character when they are giving their opening talk lowers your reputation, which affects the odds of getting an ally later on. No lockout entirely, just makes it harder to gain reputation to get said ally(es) later on)
Most certainly agree! I’ve been replaying this game on the nt noir this past week with my son and it’s up their with my favorite 2 player local offline co-op games of all time.
This was my favorite NES game as a kid haha even though the N64 was out already by then my family had the old NES from when my older brother was a kid and this game kept me entertained for hours. Beating up thugs with boards and chains was SO badass. Music is great too. BARF!
Sir, you have produced the most sensational archive of NES music and I applaud you for it. Thank you. The sweet tones caress my eardrums like the tip of Simon Belmont's whip snapping against an undead lupine. Vaya con dios, amigo. Namaste.
This was such a kick ass game, liked Double Dragon, but this one was more fun with the upgraded moves, levels of power and all that. The code you had to write down for where you were at we're in the game was insanely long lol. I still play this and others every once in awhile on my original NES. The show down at the high school is badass. Loved the music/score ad well of course. Thank You For This brilliant bit of nostalgia!
My favorite the two twins on 17:40! Everytime the music begins, I usual be at the end of the hallway to run straight to them. But the final music is funny.
just remeber this game and came rushing to hear this amazing soundtrack. Thank you for this. An another thanxs for the track listening in the description
i still rock RCR on my old ass NES from '89. me and the boys will run through it after a night at the bar. it's like and old movie for me. "you want to watch goodfellas, or play RCR again?" hard choice... thankyou for making this available.
Working from home in quarantine due to the Coronavirus scare. Playing old NES themes in the background while I work. Bringing back some serious memories!
I forget how hard they worked on these 8 bit soundtracks sometimes. At first they seem like the definition of “simple” when it’s actually super complex musical scales and tempos on a loop. Really, these are brilliantly put together so that a short strip of music can keep you dynamically engaged. The NES library is filled with examples of legendary “Vine style” musical selections. You have a clear time limit and a confined number and low quality/quantity of instruments. Basically the sound you have gotten so far from computers has sounded like someone programmed the first sex robot with a “queef” function, and you and your buddies took that very distinct sound and made a whole sub genre of music. Oh god and the perididdles…
Is it just me, or did Fighting the Gangs (Running Around) take massive inspiration from Green Onions by Booker T. and the M.G.'s? If so, that's a really nice touch, and tonally appropriate. Definitely deepens my appreciation for this classic.
This is arguably one of the greatest games on the NES.. so many great aspects to it they created a game just like it for the PS2. It is called BULLY and many of us are still waiting for the sequel to that as well. There was a 16 bit game where your group from school went through other areas and schools and fought until you beat them all up but cant remember what it was... it was like a Tekken game though
336025abC It's closer to 32-bit (Playstation-era) but I believe the game you're referring to is Rival Schools. Did one of the main characters sound like Ocarina of Time-era Link?
The countless days of me and my brothers getting owned by Randy and Mandy. I finally beat them by myself when I was about 13, and now I can still pop the cartridge in my NES when I'm feeling nostalgic.
This is one of my all time favorite game ever! I wish it could have a better ending than just the black screen with some word on it, get frustrated in the end the first time I ended this one...
0:21 I hold your city captive & Ryan's girlfriend hostage. With my gangs of students & evil bosses, nobody can stop me now. Meet my demands - or else! ... P.S. Alex & Ryan if you interfere, you'll be in for the fight of your lives! ... SLICK
9:04 sounds like something out of Battle of Olympus. EDIT: Oh! Maybe because both games' soundtracks were written by the same composer, Kazuo Sawa. Never knew this!
The boss music reminds me of farming benny and clyde for money. Just keep fighting them till you save up $100 which seemed like a lot of money back then
Man I remember some of the small things that made this game worth playing. Just before fighting the dragon twins, you search the classrooms, and you can speak with the girlfriend before the fight. I used to beat the game heaps of times as a kid, and used to find small things here n there. Like fighting "cowboy", he wasn't really required to beat the game.
Guys this was my second favorite NES game, first being Goal 3, or Kunio-kun no Soccer. All of Nekketsu soundtracks are already god-tier, but if you want to ascend even further, check out River City Ransom Underground OST, I doubt you'll be able to do any tasks for 1 hour and 27 minutes straight. Anyway, BARF!
The gba remake of this was pretty sweet and even had more moves. Too bad we haven't seen one in the US since. I'd kill for this to be on a modern system with a new system if they did it right.... maybe like Sleeping dogs or such. Then again I have also been wanting a sequel to crystalis since I was like 8..... and I'm 32.
I dunno if you know, but there is another remake of _River City Ransom_ for the 3DS called _River City: Rival Showdown_ that has *a lot* more content. We're talkin' more story, more city, more moves, pretty much more of everything. If you have a 3DS, then I think that it's *definitely* worth checking out.
W.S.L. Warehouse / Vacant 3rd Wheel Factory track is very solid outside of the obvious actual Double Dragon easter egg track it's probably the closest in sound to Double Dragon even has a slight Metroid vibe.
I remember the first time playing through this game as an 11 year old boy and hearing that Double Dragon theme song inside of River City High. I knew immediately that I was about to have my ass handed to me by the Lee brothers 😅

You can really tell that the composer for this game was really having fun with it.
this game is a piece of art.
💯
one of the games i replay the most.....
My body tingles from sweet memories playing this as a kid back in the early 90's.....now where's my brass knuckles?
Running Around is the best. The simple but catchy 8bit looping tracks of the NES games are forever etched in my memory.
"Running Around" is still one of my favorite NES songs of all time. I love this game!
Agreed!
Most certainly agree! I’ve been replaying this game on the nt noir this past week with my son and it’s up their with my favorite 2 player local offline co-op games of all time.
A tough fight boss theme 1 is a rockin chune by any standard! One of my favorite on the nes.
Hey… if you think about it, this is the second open world game, and the first “3D space” open world game…
@@Adamchevy I would totally play an online mmo version of this game…
Technos is very underrated in the Music/Sound dept. This game and Nintendo World Cup got incredible OST.
Super Dodgeball too!
And Super Spike V'ball
Nintendo world cup!!! Hell yesss
Crash and the Boys: Street Challenge had an amazing fucking soundtrack. It was hella fun too.
Don't forget double dragon 1, 2 and 3!

The reverb is sweet. Sounds like you're blasting your 13 inch TV in an empty house, which is what I did when my parents weren't home. haha
I consider this the greatest for of 50s style music in 8 bits. No other game could match it.
Sir, you have produced the most sensational archive of NES music and I applaud you for it. Thank you. The sweet tones caress my eardrums like the tip of Simon Belmont's whip snapping against an undead lupine. Vaya con dios, amigo. Namaste.

Hey, do you always date the game to it's USA release? It was released in 1989 in Japan, and 1990 in the USA.
