Those were my thoughts. I'm wondering if this video came from Newbury Park? An earlier video I saw was obviously done by the team and also showed the complete field using a split screen. Just needed more time to edit? If only the Networks could learn how to show a race....the announcers also do a great job (again, unlike Network TV). Great job and thanks for the post.
They call their course the toughest HS course in America? I don't know if they still run it, but I think the toughest HS course in America was the one we ran on in Montrose, MI. I helped set it up in my senior year. It was on a Christmas tree farm I worked on. There were gopher-holes in the tractor lanes we ran on between the rows of trees, and when we ran down the steep hill to the creek if it had rained we always slipped and fell. Then, after running along the bank, on the way back up from the creek we sometimes had to use our hands to help get up the hill. It wasn't quite an obstacle course, but it was the very definition of 'cross-country'. We once ran against a golf-course-running team from a much, much larger school, and when we beat them they complained that the course was unrunnable. Their coach got mad and pointed out that we had managed to run it, and faster than they did, and he made his team go out and run the entire course again. I would have loved to run against Newberry Park on our course on a wet day. They would win, but they wouldn't win with clean uniforms. :)
They came through the mile @ 4:33, followed by 9:51 @ the 2 mile. Their split was slower if you take into account the two hills they had to go up, but you can tell they let off the gas by the way they were going down the hill.
So the Sahlman's and Nico Young went to NAU, why? 1) They could have hand picked any program and made it the best. 2) Why are Lex and Leo not joining their brother and the Sahlman's at NAU?
NAU sits at 7000 feet and have won the national championship 6 of the last 7 years. So basically NAU is a xc powerhouse. The twins aren’t going to NAU because Stanford is a very good young team in there own right and they are probably focusing on academics as well.
@@owenmartin06 If memory serves me, Matt Guisto went to NAU also. He may not be remembered now but he was a National Champ HS XC and also distinguished as being the first Sub 4 in SF. NAU and Stanford with good programs. The surprise to me is why not UCLA to train under the guy that developed them? Unless I missed something, like their coach not taking the college job? With NAU taking Sahlman, they get another solid XC runner that will also round out the Track program, as he will be in force in the 800 and 1500 as a Frosh.
Div is based upon the school total enrollment. NP went to div one briefly and dropped back down to div two. Factor in students that graduate and those that move out or transfer etc.
California is broken into 10 Sections for high school sports. Each Section has a championship to determine which teams and individuals will compete at the State meet. Since Southern Section is the largest Section (encompassing LA, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, Ventura and Santa Barbara counties), there are first Prelims and then Finals. Also, schools are broken into 5 divisions based on enrollment, with D1 being largest and D5 being smallest. So, there are championships for each Division in each Section and at State as well. Hope that clarifies things a bit.
14:32 Aaron jumped the fence 😂

@@WAGP. Yeah class of 2025
almost felt a tear well up when they were 12345, so cool for them and XC.
They went 1,2, 3, 6. 4 and 5 was a different school
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 was the 2021 division 1 team. In 2021, their 7th man was 12th.
Good job hd! This is the best video production of this race yet. Enjoyed your editing and coverage.

Thank you, hdRunners! Always love your work!! :)
Newberry Park won? I'm shocked!
Great coverage start to finish. What a course, too!
Had better video feed than Nationals!

No it’s Hershey PA
4:31 first mile and 9:57 at mile 2?...so 5:26 second mile???? Is that second mile mark placed incorrectly?
probably because they were near sprinting the first 200 meters at the very beginning.
They came through the mile @ 4:33, followed by 9:51 @ the 2 mile. Their split was slower if you take into account the two hills they had to go up, but you can tell they let off the gas by the way they were going down the hill.
2nd mile is always the slowest because of the two hills, but they had to get out pretty hard nonetheless.
Thank you for getting me even though I was almost last 😅
Leo young literally had the energy to stand up straight at the end of the race and say “It’s alright alright and fun as always”. Unbelievable!😂
Thanks for the video. Happy Thanksgiving!
So fast😢

INSANE !!!
W westlake
wait...so all of Ventura's top 5 are juniors? Senior season should be mighty interesting.
Can someone explain why they are division 2 and not division 1? I don't get it
I'm guessing age.i doubt they can just bin students in their last year.
It depends on how big the school is, how many students the school has
Hmm
Ik for sure they were in d1 last year, but half of them were seniors so assuming it’s the size of the team

Because there are 565 schools in the CIF SS
