- We cover the voltage requirements and readings on Coleman and Fleetwood pop up camper power lift systems.
This video also shows how to override and manually raise a power lift system in the event of an electrical or mechanical issue.

That is a beautiful drive to work!!
I appreciate it twice a day.
Derek, If you don't get the proper voltage readings when you press the up and down buttons on the remote, how do you know if the problem is with the remote or the current limiter? Thank you
You can test both sides of the switch as well for continuity. Typically if the remote fails, it's one side of the switch and you get no reading from the limiter though. It's possible that the switch could provide a faulty reading, but very unlikely.
Hi Derek thanks for the video! This may be a dumb question but where exactly did you put the tester leads ?
At the battery and harness.
@@popupcamperproSo you exposed some of the wire on the harness ?
After you unplug it, so you can bypass the electric lift, is the crank supposed to be really hard to turn? Or are we doing something wrong?
Should be fairly easy but slow. If it’s still difficult, then something else may be wrong.
Well, that is a helpful video.
But what happens if you think your pop up camper is going up too slow. Is that a sign of a bad motor. Mind sounds like it's suffering When lifting up
They are indeed slow and make a bit of noise normally.
I was having an issue with no voltage reading out of the power limiter but there was voltage to it, and the remote had continuity on up and down side of switch. A few days later, fully charged battery, everything is working fine. I had concluded the limiter was bad but now i'm not sure. Any ideas/suggestions? Should i change the limiter anyway ?
I wouldn’t. Could have or still may be a poor connection. Try some dielectric grease at the connection between the motor and limiter.
Thanks for that video. My Somerset roof needs to lift a smidgen more for the door to fit (probably 1/4" - 1/2"). The lift motor has some set screws (Allen wrench style) that I am reluctant to adjust because I can't find any instructions about the motor and I am only guessing that the set screws are used to adjust travel. I don't know if the lift height should be adjusted at the whiffle tree instead. I suspect it is a simple fix, but I don't know where to start. Any guidance you can offer? (Albuquerque, NM)
Hello Christopher! The Allen head bolts (3) are the motor mounts. These pinch mount the motor to the motor mount. The height adjustment is done at the whiffle tree. You can find more detailed instructions on this system and more under the link INSTRUCTIONS at colemanpopupparts.com
@@popupcamperpro Thank you. Thanks you. Thank you!! You’ve got my business! These days, so many dealers are interested in just serving the “big” rigs - I used to have one of those, but “upgraded” to the pop up lifestyle and never looked back. “Less is more.”
@@christopherkerns9811 There are also a set of additional holes in the horizontal pulley mounts at each corner underneath the popup. These are more course adjustments. If you run out of fine adjustment at the whiffle tree, you can try these. You'll like have to loosen the whiffle tree adjustments if you move to the other set of pulley mount holes.
Thank you for this video! I have an Avalon pop-up and the power lift stopped working. I have three of these as insurance. I did get stuck once and I wish I had seen the video on how to disconnect the brake. I tested the voltage going into the current limiter which was 12 volts but when I used the power lift to test the output of the current limiter it was zero volts up and down. Does this mean I need a new power lift current limiter? I think we might have fried the current limiter when we raised and lowered the roof while on house power. On my popup, the current limiter is riveted onto the bumper, did not see any other screws.
It could be Michael. Check your limiter wiring and ground as well for any faults.
Derek, awesome drive to work. Is there a video or link on how to replace the lift motor (2009 avalon)? I purchased the replacement motor last year from your store - its still in the box.
In the INSTRUCTIONS link you can find the how to, but it's pretty easy. On the side of the motor, is 3 small Allen head pinch bolts. Loosen them, then tighten them to the motor mount.
Hey Derek. I have a flagstaff classic 2015. the roof goes up, but it wants to start going down when lift power starts. is the motor brake bad? I believe it is a carefree..thanks
That’s very odd fletch lives daily. Perhaps the polarity’s reversed at the motor?
Hey Derek. When I stop lifting, the top just wants to slide down very slowly. I took off the carefree motor and it spins freely. The clutch is tight. Do you know if there is a brake in the motor to keep it stopped...thnx
Sorry about the first comment, a bit confusing
@@fletchlivesdaily348 there is. When 12 volt is supplied to the motor, a brake is engaged.
So when it is powered, I shouldn't be able to turn the motor pinion gear...which I can turn it.
Derek, we love your work! Quick question regarding our 2005 Fleetwood Utah. We have the following tires that are ST 185/80 D13. What brand and tries do you recommended for this trailer?
Thank you and please keep up the good work...
Mary, I always purchase expensive tires for my campers and automobiles. My father taught me years ago that it's only 1/4 inch of tread between you and the road. Look to a reputable tire shop, and purchase USA built high quality tires is my recommendation.
Be cool to retro fit one
Some are easier than others...
@@popupcamperpro would you happen to have any thoughts or videos showing how to add one to an early 2000's Bayside Elite w/ left side crank.
@@tom85lhu I'd recommend a metal geared cordless drill with a crank adapter. (colemanpopupparts.com/products/new-style-cordless-drill-crank-adapter?_pos=1&_sid=36a35cfaf&_ss=r). The best of both worlds. DeWalt use to be the best drill for this. I'm not sure any more.
Hey Derek we've got a 2004 fleetwood folding trailer and the power lift isn't working, it looks like there is a bike chain just hanging above the motor any thoughts on what that is?
Sounds like the power lift was added. The chain is likely going to an upper crank assembly.
