I can still find them in candy shops in Old Towns and places like that. I get them on occasion just for ole time sake and after "puffing", try to chew that tough gum with an arthritic jaw. 🤪😜Good times.
To be fair, I snorted pop rocks once when I was in high school. Someone dared me to during tech class and I wasn’t about to back down! I felt it popping in my head, it was a very weird sensation. I was already into snorting other things by that point, so I wouldn’t consider it a gateway drug whatsoever 😂
@Al they still sell edible stuff with titanium powder in it too, for now that being said malitol seems mostly fine in small amounts. But it's a laxative, and laxatives are actually extremely dangerously addictive. If people take laxatives regularly they can form a dependency that can actually kill them if they stop too quickly. It does weird stuff to your guts in large quantities, and some people have adverse reactions in small amounts as well, so it's not necessarily the safest ingredient to market but probably ok to consume in moderation unlike titanium powder, which is metal and not usable by the body. White pills are often sold dyed with titanium. Antiperspirant is often sold with aluminum in it too which can be extremely toxic to your kidneys. My point is something being sold doesnt mean its safe lol
pause and read the article explaining why hippy sippy was banned. it wasnt because people thought the heroin needle look was bad, it was cause inhaling the candy into the lungs could cause serious health issues and the entire mechanism for eating them involved inhaling through a straw. absolutely deserved a ban
@Al maltitol is still found in RUSSELL STOVER'S SUGAR FREE candy. However, it will give you diarrhea and because it items still a carbohydrate, it will still raise your blood glucose. That's a lose lose situation.
It probably has to do with budgetting, recording quality is very poor as well, as is the fact checking and the mid video commercial. Sad to see this one slip.
Fun Fact: Those Sweethearts Conversation Hearts were made by NECCO (New England Confectionery COmpany) -- yes, the very same that made the (in)famous NECCO Wafers. Spangler Candy Company now owns and produces both brands, so they live on despite NECCO's demise a few years ago -- and I am glad for that, as I actually like the very odd tastes and chalky textures of both products.
I've always wondered why the good Kinder eggs, were not available in the States. Great video! My favorite European/Canadian smarties, were illegal because of a red dye I believe. Thankfully they are legal now!
Pretty sure it was blue dye & the ban didn't last long (more like a recall just long enough to remove any blue ones from the market). Then again I don't have the greatest memory so I could be wrong. And I'm suddenly imagining kids snorting (Canadian) Smarties. Something tells me it wouldn't be as easy/ effective as with (the inferior) 'Murrican ones.
The chocolate Smarties are now made with natural colours. They aren't as bright as M&Ms, but somehow better for you? Nestle had a hard time finding a natural red dye that didn't fade quickly.
I'm not sure why the Haribo Sugar Free Bears were singled out. I'm a diabetic, and I would say that MOST sugar free candies contain a form of sugar alcohol, of which many have a laxative effect, not just Maltitol. Russel Stover Sugar Free candies, for example, will send you to the bathroom super quick if you eat too many at once. Erythritol, Stevia and Xylitol do not seem to have these issues, and I've noticed more and more sugar free products are starting to use these sweeteners instead.
I'm a Canadian in my thirties we never snorted rockets but we did crush them up and pretend they were drugs. Candy cigarette were one of my favourite on Halloween. I also loved the trashcan of candy. None of it made me want to try the real version. Kinder eggs were never meant to be given to small children under the age of five. Parents need to supervise their kids. I liked building the toys with my parents.
I love the narration. "Marboros were made to mimic Marlboros". Well thanks for clearin that up for us. Don't think we woulda been able to figure that one out without your help🤣🤣🤣
the freaking plastic egg thing in kinder eggs is hard enough to bite into and swallow that any kid who manages it should just be viewed as a darwin award winner. those things are awesome.
Those little message hearts always tasted exceedingly foul to me. They tasted the way chalk smells, and the aftertaste would linger no matter how vigorously you brushed your teeth. I am sure they have their fans, but I surely was not one of them.
Candy cigarettes were great, I was still able to find them back in the mid to late 2000s when I was a kid. The “country store” down the road from me sold them along with all of the other candy, those were the days, man.
Living in Europe, kinder eggs are just a big part of childhood. But I also remember seeing and eating chocolate cigarettes. I also tried the Maoam candies, and definitely saw something sexual on those wrappers. I was around 10 to 13 yo
I used to save money for candy. I would buy the candy cigarettes all the time. My dad smoked so I thought I would be just like him. Tried a real cigarette when I was 13, thought I was going to die!! Never took up smoking...
I remember 'smoking' candy cigarettes in the 70s and look back on that like what the heck, but it was the 70s haha. And why is that lollipop shaped like it wants to scrape off the roof of your mouth?
I don't know if a lot of people realize it, but after they stopped selling actual candy cigarettes that looked like real ones, they remade them as "candy sticks," for many years. They came in little cardboard boxes with different generic or trademarked cartoon characters on them. I remember some of them had Halloween characters like Frankenstein on the box and others had things like Popeye the Sailor or Donald Duck. They didn't look like cigarettes, but it was obvious that's what they were supposed to be. They actually looked more like very skinny pieces of blackboard chalk. The only place I've ever seen them is in those mix bags they always have around Halloween. But I haven't seen them in at least 10-12 years. I used to like them so much because they had such a unique flavor that nothing else has. They were sweet and very lightly minty. I could see how people would think they were gross, and I bet that's why they stopped making them, but I really liked them. I wonder if you can still get them.
Those candy cigarettes did always confuse me, but they tasted ok....I mean as well as plain sugar tastes anyway. I went to high school with a guy who would crush up smarties and snort them....even in the middle of study hall.
I definitely was grinding up smarties for fun. We used the desks in class and just rubbed the smartie into dust, the texture of the desk made it perfect. Literally nothing bad happened. It was just fine after a shower.
While Kinder Eggs are still banned, the legal workaround "Kinder Joy" has been sold in the US for the last several years. With a Kinder Joy, the chocolate is sealed in one half of the egg while the toy is separately held in the other half of the egg.
@Christina Bonvillian The classic Kinder Egg, also known as Kinder Surprise, are banned in the US; fully embedding plastic within a piece of chocolate violates a 1938 food safety act. That didn't stop people and companies from importing and selling the product in the US, but they were doing so illegally. US Customs would seize the product when found. During the 2010s, they were seizing tens of thousands of Kinder Eggs yearly. (One year in particular saw 60,000 Eggs being seized by Customs.) Kinder Joy separate the contents, and thus are legal in the US.
not only that, many of them werent banned. the lollipop and taffy were returned to shelves just with better packaging, and the road kill gummies were pulled off shelves voluntarily by kraft
Not really dangerous, but Big League Chew Bubblegum. It's packaged to mimic the look of a bag of chewing tobacco. The gum comes in shreds. There's a picture of a baseball player blowing a big bubblegum bubble on front of the package. There was concern that kids would eventually move on to real chewing tobacco in order to mimic their tobacco chewing baseball heroes. After MLB banned tobacco chewing in team dugouts across the league, some players did indeed switch to that bubble gum alternative.
Similar to kinder eggs, does anybody remember wonder balls? I’m not sure when they were invented, but I was born in 1998 & I remember seeing them in the check out isle at grocery stores as a kid. Instead of having a toy inside a hollow ball of chocolate, it was usually hard, chalky candy- like smarties. (But they weren’t circles, they were shapes, I can’t remember what they were) I used to love them!!!
I have always loved the Kinders when my kids were little because they could have a treat that looked like a big deal but was actually very little sweet chocolate because of the toy. I still find a few toys inside drawers and my kids are all in their late 20s, makes me smile😅 I rarely bought them myself (I saw them as expensive) it was more like family or friends when they came to visit
Kinder eggs (and by extension, Wonderballs) came back in the past few years, I think that ban on "non food in a food product" was rescinded specifically for things like that. Another example of the ban removal are Yowie chocolates which have little animal figurines in it.
The writing seems to be the same, but the delivery just isn't as good (IMO) was this narrator. The OG narrator from Weird History has such a perfect dry delivery. Rockets are my favourite! When my kids were small, all the Rockets they got on Hallowe'en were the 'tax' they had to pay for Dad taking them trick-or-treating. And, wimpy Yanks! Kinder Eggs are harmless!
Uhh, kinder eggs have been in the states for a while now. Maybe even a decade. They’re even sold at Walmart and CVS. Especially here in Hercules California. A lot of the elementary kids would have them.
The sad thing is that all candy is dangerous because sugar is dangerous and super addictive. I wish it wasn't though.. I love sweets! (at least I have access to kinder eggs in Canada)
We have kinder eggs now, but the toy is sealed on one side of the package and the chocolate is on the other so no accidental toy eating lol. The chocolate is actually really really good. My kids and I really love the kinder bueno. Absolutely delicious! When I was a kid in the 80's and 90's I remember having bubble gum cigarettes. They were wrapped in paper to look like a cigarette and they had some sort of powder in them between the wrapper and gum so if you blew out a little with it in your mouth it looked like smoke was coming out. Back then you could also write a note for your kid to take into the gas station to get the parents cigarettes. That would be unimaginable today.
No hate on this narrator, but I personally think the narrator of the first 12 or so videos had perfectly timed delivery. And a perfectly dry cadence to back it up. I couldn't make it more than a few minutes into this video. I also started to expect the other narrator and this feels like another channel.

As a kid, I loved getting candy cigarettes. Puffing out the powdered sugar before eating the chalky candy or gum was always fun. But I never took up actual smoking because real cigarette smoke smelled nasty, and kissing a smoker was like kissing an ashtray. It just wasn’t for me.
i remember the cigarettes when i was little. they had powdered sugar on them so that when you blew, they'd puff like smoke.
Those were different. Candy cigarettes were just a thin piece of chalk candy with red dye on the tip. What you’re thinking of are the gum cigarettes.
I can still find them in candy shops in Old Towns and places like that. I get them on occasion just for ole time sake and after "puffing", try to chew that tough gum with an arthritic jaw. 🤪😜Good times.
as a 38 year old man child I could live off of candy but my doctor told me that I need to eat "adult people food" I'm getting a new doctor
Pro tip:Just skip veggies
Definitely get a new Doctor. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.🤣
Maybe he meant Soylent Green. I think that’s made from adult people.
Damn you might live another seven years if you’re lucky
I agree, you need a second opinion. 😁😆😅😂🤣
Ah, candy cigarettes. I was on a 2 pack a day habbit.
I remember those Road Kill gummies, they were so good. They should be brought back, just in a different form.
...They're literally just regular Trolli gummies in a different shape.
To be fair, I snorted pop rocks once when I was in high school. Someone dared me to during tech class and I wasn’t about to back down! I felt it popping in my head, it was a very weird sensation. I was already into snorting other things by that point, so I wouldn’t consider it a gateway drug whatsoever 😂
i only want to live in the neighbourhood where neighbours are trustworthy and cool enough to make their own halloween candy.
Please bring back the guy :( His voice is so relaxing, and I was saving this video for my day off :(
Except for the lead and maltitol laced candy, everything else should not have been banned.
@Al they still sell edible stuff with titanium powder in it too, for now
that being said malitol seems mostly fine in small amounts. But it's a laxative, and laxatives are actually extremely dangerously addictive. If people take laxatives regularly they can form a dependency that can actually kill them if they stop too quickly. It does weird stuff to your guts in large quantities, and some people have adverse reactions in small amounts as well, so it's not necessarily the safest ingredient to market but probably ok to consume in moderation
unlike titanium powder, which is metal and not usable by the body.
You can get a slightly different version of Kinder Eggs in the US now.
Leaving the script style, pacing, humor, and over all format of content delivery the same but changing the voice kills the vibe
Came here for this comment. Discovery channel did this with How It’s Made and they had a ton of people ask for the old voice back.
It probably has to do with budgetting, recording quality is very poor as well, as is the fact checking and the mid video commercial. Sad to see this one slip.
I like the guys voice of weird history. Most of these candies were apart of my childhood
Can't watch without the OG narrator
Maybe it's just because absolutely nobody would stop at just two gummy bears? :D
My only complaint about this channel is that I wish I found it sooner, great content!!!
Of all the things that should be banned/ more regulated in America, a toy in a kinder egg is not one of them
How DARE you. I'm tired of reading about all those instances where a mass chocolate egg distribution in a crowded public space resulted in tragedy.
Hmm 30 years ago I was indeed snorting smarties and eating cigarettes... I didn't know the longterm effects! :D
The Sugarfree Hariboro Gummie Bears were stuff of nightmares. I even threatened to give it to a few friends who deserved it lol
One of the main reasons I watch this channel is because of the unique voice narration...
Same!
As a kid who bit my fingernails all the time squeezing the container with my teeth was the only way I could get to the toy lol
When I was a kid people would snort pixie sticks. It was pretty crazy. Wonder what happened to those kids…
I did that when I was a kid and I Neva touched well the other stuff normally snorted
I snorted them at 12 too and I'll be 30 this week lol
I'm not sure if I remember Magic Balls, but I do remember the subsequent Wonder Balls. Thanks for the nostalgia trip.
Those little message hearts always tasted exceedingly foul to me. They tasted the way chalk smells, and the aftertaste would linger no matter how vigorously you brushed your teeth. I am sure they have their fans, but I surely was not one of them.
All these food scandals then an established titles advert....
I would’ve like to hear what the normal weird history narrator would have said about these.
Candy cigarettes were great, I was still able to find them back in the mid to late 2000s when I was a kid. The “country store” down the road from me sold them along with all of the other candy, those were the days, man.
I think the host did great ❤️ *Sometimes the usual one just needs a break* . When we have a different one this is good at it.
I like this host better. The regular host sounds too smug like the CinemaSins guy
I just like the regular guy's voice 🙂. I often put on these videos before bed and his voice soothes me to sleep 🙃
@@BennSimonn this woman’s voice is boring as hell.
@@cookingforsingles me too. My favourite voice on RUclips. I think on days when can't get our usual fix this host does really well tho.
Now they just need to do one on Established Titles.
I remember 'smoking' candy cigarettes in the 70s and look back on that like what the heck, but it was the 70s haha. And why is that lollipop shaped like it wants to scrape off the roof of your mouth?
One dangerous food, octopus legs that are still "alive". Diners have choked eating them.
0:52 that maskot gives me nightmares
Those candy cigarettes did always confuse me, but they tasted ok....I mean as well as plain sugar tastes anyway. I went to high school with a guy who would crush up smarties and snort them....even in the middle of study hall.
I definitely was grinding up smarties for fun. We used the desks in class and just rubbed the smartie into dust, the texture of the desk made it perfect. Literally nothing bad happened. It was just fine after a shower.
I still like MST3K's answer to those candy hearts.
STILL MAD, YOU'LL DO, MY NEEDS, and of course, IT'S BLUE.
Candy shaped like a heroin needle? What the ham sandwich???
(One year in particular saw 60,000 Eggs being seized by Customs.)
Kinder Joy separate the contents, and thus are legal in the US.
Many of these wouldn't qualify as dangerous by any means, but it was interesting.
not only that, many of them werent banned. the lollipop and taffy were returned to shelves just with better packaging, and the road kill gummies were pulled off shelves voluntarily by kraft
The candy pipe sold here in Washington was never sold to kids, it was sold in smoke shops and you had to be 18 to purchase it.
What an interesting find!
My dad bought us that gum. We never took up tobacco
They were literally mentioned in this video, maybe pay more attention.
How have I never heard of Lolipipes?!? I need to smoke out of one of those!!
I have always loved the Kinders when my kids were little because they could have a treat that looked like a big deal but was actually very little sweet chocolate because of the toy. I still find a few toys inside drawers and my kids are all in their late 20s, makes me smile😅
I rarely bought them myself (I saw them as expensive) it was more like family or friends when they came to visit
Haribo.. no!! what am i going to bring to the work potluck now?
Kinder Eggs are sold in the US since the ban was removed, and yet no one who makes these lists seemingly mentions this bit of info.
Kinder eggs are sold everywhere now in the United States
They are not the same as what is sold across the pond.
@Edward Lee Miller I loved the Flintstone Wonder balls! I wish they would bring them back! ❤️
@Edward Lee Miller I stand corrected
9:31 - Hah, I took that photo!!
And here I thought that the reason the candy hearts were banned was because someone thought the messages on them constituted sexual harassment
Don't be givin' the snowflakes ideas.
They should only be banned because they taste so horribly bad.
This video unlocked forgotten middle school memories of seeing some kid snorting smarties during math class.
I know you gotta pay the bills but midroll promotions are super annoying especially in a list video.
Kinder eggs (and by extension, Wonderballs) came back in the past few years, I think that ban on "non food in a food product" was rescinded specifically for things like that. Another example of the ban removal are Yowie chocolates which have little animal figurines in it.
Hate to say it but I prefer the original narrator. This one makes it feel like one of those top 10 videos
Those Haribo sugar free gummy bears nearly killed me.
The writing seems to be the same, but the delivery just isn't as good (IMO) was this narrator. The OG narrator from Weird History has such a perfect dry delivery. I've heard this girl on other channels, and she's not a bad narrator, just to "peppy" for my taste, especially in Weird History. Hope the other guy comes back.
Rockets are my favourite! When my kids were small, all the Rockets they got on Hallowe'en were the 'tax' they had to pay for Dad taking them trick-or-treating. And, wimpy Yanks! Kinder Eggs are harmless!
Man, that's something. First time the channel posts on a Saturday. I love it.
I'm from Connecticut, and I did not even know that Valentine's day heart candy was banned in a part of my state!
Where’s the other narrator?
Uhh, kinder eggs have been in the states for a while now. Maybe even a decade. They’re even sold at Walmart and CVS. Especially here in Hercules California. A lot of the elementary kids would have them.
not the same thing
Just found the Lollipipes on Ebay. I ordered a 4 pack for $10.00 and free shipping. And yes, you know EXACTLY why I did. 😶🌫
The Lollipipes also look so phallic when you obviously look at it.
We’ve said this numerous times. We want the regular Narrator.
Agree!!!
Right?!?!
Yup. Her voice is too generic.
Why so hateful?
Her voice is so grating 🤢🤮
That kinder egg humpty dumpty is terrifying.
No hate on this narrator, but I personally think the narrator of the first 12 or so videos had perfectly timed delivery. And a perfectly dry cadence to back it up. I couldn't make it more than a few minutes into this video. I also started to expect the other narrator and this feels like another channel.
Agreed. The guys voice made the channel. She just sounds like she's reading radio commercials.
The Necco wafer flavored conversation hearts were a classic. The tart/sour ones were the best.
Americans are missing a lot, it seems. We have Kinder, some gummies and other foods here in Asia that would probably be banned in the US for some stupid reasons
Gummy candy isn’t banned in the US. Only the weird roadkill shaped ones were removed and those with the laxative sweetener.
We have all kinds of gummy candy here.
We have Kinder in the US as well
This video is 3 months old, to those scholars who are pointing out the Establishing titles scam. Jeezus
OMG the lady narrator again. The guy is just that good. He is what makes the show! Make it stop.
