@arfhabverfklsznf (part 1)i hope you realize that this is sport karate and that regard for bunkai isn't exactly high on the list of performance requirements, practically speaking. as regarding the move itself, i don't know what's considered "standard" bunkai for any particular lineage, but think putting your hands out and leaning forwards to stop some one from bear hugging you (and possibly throwing you and headbutting you afterwards),
Dear Jesse,
For me, this is not the original move of matsumura passai. The original move is shown by grand master Chosin Chibana. Our style (kushin-ryu) still follows his movement.
Well, you can find grand master Chosin Chibana's matsumura passai video on youtube
look at 1:40 ! its wicked awsome!
No, it’s Michael Jackson in Smooth Criminal. ☹️
I've never seen this version of Bassai. Care to explain to me what the bunkai of the move at 1:40 is?
@arfhabverfklsznf (part 2) after which you could headbutt them, and then you hit them in the ribs, or try to go for underhooks and try to either hit them or lock out their elbows (if you have very good body mechanics, you could try the uprooting push trick the tai chi guys do in their demos, which would enable you to "counter-pull" the guy into a knee off the front leg).
just a couple possibilities (of course, whether competition performances represent any correctly is another matter) :)
Shureido
was this the third place match? did he win?
Zach Alex yes and yes and he lost only 2.3 against valdesi in the semi final there
