Brilliant, well done Jon 👍🏻
Thanks Wilson
Good win. You worked hard for 1st place. Never seen anything like it, every one of those fish were turbo powered and didn't know what giving up meant. One point I'd like to make, the condition of the fish really good. On a final note, your little girl is growing far too fast. She's so sweet. Well done Jon.
Glad you enjoyed
Class again pal👊👊👊👊👊👊

Congrats on the Win Jon.🤙
Thanks Neil
@@JonArthur Pleasure Jon, watching you and the 2 Jamie's in the camp have improved my skill sets hugely over the past 3 years, if you can't learn from the top flight in your sport then my view is your pursuing the wrong Sport.🤙

Seemed strong on elastic at start but was needed. Nice to see a good bait tray.
Well done on win.
No messing about when it's 11m wide and that snaggy! :-)
Well done Jon
thanks Liam

Good Video, Thanks
Glad you liked it!
5:26 ffs 😂 Iv seen smaller wedding buffets 🤪
Ha ha :-)
nice one johnny boy ,looks like a great venue shame i live too far away looks better than my local 40 foot fen drain!!!!
Some days it is
Next video please!!!!!
Great video again sir,I use the same formula when pleasure fishing which I have blatantly stolen from Mr Arthur top kit first in front then left and right 9 times out of 10 it works, great method and well executed and explained mate
Deserved win worked hard but stuck at it a few others could learn a thing or two
Thanks Bish :-)
She’s growing up so fast !
Yep tooooo fast!
Well done mate!enjoyed every minute, the only thing that ruined video a bit is we knew you won it from the begging!
You knew the titanic would sink too. It's all about catching the public... ;-)
@@JonArthur you definitely caught some public and fish too!
Keep them coming mate brilliant watch!
great video jon and a well deserved win,do you think using a short top kit would have helped get the fish under control quicker...many thanks scott
I toyed with fishing short kits on the day but bottled it once I saw how narrow and snaggy the venue was and just opted for beefy elastics. Partly because I still wanted my normal kits for down the edge and didn't want to mix n match kit lengths... but short kits were a definite maybe.
Love to see you using the mtx 2 Mr Arthur as that is what i use..! Why is there no cammo patterned top kit for margin fishing I ask ?
You could always drape some ivy around it? :-)
Hello Jon, love your vids, and im also a resident of Makins ( heading over this sunday, are you in the open this week ) ive been thinking for getting into the matches recently. im gathering float can still be used in matches, you wouldnt happen to know if you can borrow keep nets there, as i only have one? so maybe see you at a peg one day, all the best Daniel Downes.
Sadly no I won't be there as I can't fish it as often as I'd like to. Yes, you can normally borrow a keepnet if you ask the bailiff. Good luck!
@@JonArthur oh well. im sure ill spot you one day if when i go into the matches ( dont care if i win i just used to love the atmosphere ) im going to have a go in a couple of weeks after ive practiced. where do you find out about other pools matches matey :) also thanks for the reply, just got a new subscriber here :)
Hi John, are you ever worried about using an elastic which is rated higher than the rating stated on the pole? Also, how do you think the matrix slik ratings compare to other elastics? Thanks
Or would you say the breaking strain of line you use is the factor you should worry about if you don't want to damage your pole?
My kits are rated to an 18, so 18-20 silk is fine in my eyes, plus it's down to how sensible you are, which is why all pole elastic ratings are low as not everyone plays fish sensibly.
Well done Jon, love the videos, about to purchase my first ever 16m pole after a trip to tunnel barn with my 8.7m margin pole , had a great day as well on top kit plus 2, maggots and pellets, only been fishing about 11 months love it already. Any tips for Makins off to fish it next week, only 30 mins from me. Thanks
Feed very sparingly to begin with. The big carp are very timid. Or just go on Lake 3 which is the easiest lake.
Jon Arthur Angling thanks Jon omg how spooky I fished the peg to your right today, with the new pole, loved it caught plenty on method and in the margins, even had the confidence to enter the NISA open meet on Wednesday this week. First ever open meet. Thanks for all the tips and hints it’s made fishing very enjoyable even in the horrid rain and wind today. Tight lines Lake 2 on Wednesday had to buy more keep nets lol only have 2 and 3 is the minimum. Lol
Always enjoy your vids the most .one thing tho why did u use such string elastic as the carp didnt seem massive was it because of tight pegging
Simply because it's 11m wide and full of snags, especially across. Good luck trying to extract the carp on lighter gear!
On your 2 plus 2 line was you fishing very bottom of slope or back up on the actuall slope a little bit.
Have you got any good tips for fishing the 2 plus 2 line
There's very little slope on these old lakes as they're so silty, so just pick a comfy distance.
Hi Jon, Did you have to change your Gopro batteries a few times during the match? Do you use the remote for them at all. ATB Terry Macklin
GoPros are very flakey but do the job when you are fishing in all weather and need something light and portable that doesn't get in the way and lets me do the more important thing. ie. fishing a match I'm trying to win! Sometimes do a battery change mid match as battery life is shocking but i also have booster packs. I can't get on with remotes or voice control as they are again flakey, so I just turn off and on. A lot of people definitely don't realise how uneasy it is to do! :-)
Thanks for the reply. I am not match fishing anymore but I am out Barble and Bream fishing at the moment. I bought a Gopro a few moths ago and realised very quickly that the battery life is shocking. You do well to round up a match and continue fishing. I have mounted a Gopro on a landing net handle for some better action shots with some good result.
I have fished next to you in two Fisho's in the past and it is good to see you sharing your experiences here.
Thanks
Terry
if it was perfect every match it would be boring.... your dead maggots... i have yet to try them(just back to it after 30 years) i had a few left.. i cleaned them, put boiling water on them..and have frozen them... will they be ok when defrosted i have no experience of them yet.. thanks
Two ways to kill maggots:
1. No boiling water, just put in a bag and freeze for at least 3 days (else they will come back alive). Thaw out the night before fishing.
2. My favourite method. Cover in plenty of hot water from the tap, then slowly pour in boiling water. Doing it this way prevents them getting scalded and going hard and white. Leave for 30 mins to cool then drain off.
Hi Jon ,are matrix going to release another distance feeder reel to replace the horizon 6000?
I don't think there are any in the immediate pipeline as its sadly quite a niche item
@@JonArthur what are you using for long distance fishing.?
John can i ask how do you do your dead maggots??
I will do a vid one day, but generally like to pour on hot water from the tap and then slowly pour in small amounts of boiled water. This stops them scalding.
@@JonArthur Thanks John.
I have a question Jon is coaching your day to day job or do you have another job ?
I am a fully qualified Level 2 coach and that is my main career. I also do a lot of freelance work and am an angling consultant. Im not a professional angler who fishes a match every day, but I work in angling professionally and try and fish two matches a week if I can. I coach on average 2-3 days a week.
Great vide Jon, but with your beautiful daughter you’ve already won - she’s a diamond!
Couldn't agree more
Good vedio bro
