this is not a negative comment...I f'n love John Waite!...BUT! this is an example of coming up with too cool of a studio version that can't be duplicated when you get older....this is one of my favorite songs by the way, and he reserves the right to sing it how ever he wants...just wish he could still nail it. GREAT SONG!
vocally spot on here...sounds like the record...The Babys is the most underrated rock band of all time. Hated the name, lot of persoanl drama, but great songs...Waite was prime cut in that band...such emotion and feel in his voice...
those who think this sounds bad must be tone deaf and are fooled by the poor audio transfer. John Waite doesn't miss a lick here. You've GOT to be a numbskull to think he's off by any degree here. And for the America hater below: not all Americans are worthy of your disdain. John Waite IS a great vocalist/musician STILL. I've seen him live a few times, and have ALWAYS been impressed with his skill and professionalism.
Ok, I have watched about six live videos of this and he doesn't sing it anything like the record. Sorry but his liberties with the melody just don't cut it. Yea, I know its his song ,bla bla bla, but its not sounding good. Plus, this song needs keyboards, they were a big part of the original.
yes, maybe not the best performance ever by John, BUT he's proven himself as a great singer/songwriter...so, America will give props to the lameasses at the Superbowl halftime show ,but rag on John?? That's sad, grow up America, remember when "musician" meant something.
For what it's worth, it's a bad mix taken straight of the mixing board. No reverb, no depth, and bad backing vocals. John's vocals are the only thing that makes the song. The guitarist is good, but it's just a bad mix. :-)
Yes it's awesome. He's still got it!
I was there that night
Jimmy LeaHey is an awesome guitarist!

needs female opera back up singers just like the magical epic studio version.

Is John familiar with how the songs goes? This is horrible.
