Wrocław is the capital of Lower Silesia. Upper Silesia's capital is Katowice . Lower Silesia is shrouded in the secrets of World War II. These are legends about valuable treasures stolen by the Germans in other countries during World War II and hidden in secret hiding places at the end of World War II in Lower Silesia.

Since the author of the film about Wrocław mentioned that her family came from Lwów, nowadays Lviv, it is worth recalling that street lamps first appeared in Lwów in 1854.
It was the first street lighting in Europe. These lamps were paraffin lamps, and we owe them to Ignacy Lukasiewicz, a Polish pharmacist who invented the method of distilling oil.

Yes! I thought the same when I watched it! Strange she didn’t mention it. Maybe she didn’t want to give the impression of another city having it over Wroclaw! Or maybe technically now Lviv isn’t in Poland she only wanted to showcase ‘current’ Poland. It is a sore point. My family were from The Lwow region and never returned to Poland after the was as they were deported to Siberia and were so sick and traumatised thereafter.

Breathtaking architecture, huge ZOO and Afrykarium, wonderful big parks, amazing history, culture and science; just name it - Wroclaw has it all. It is certainly the best big city in Poland and one of top cities in Europe. It was almost completely destroyed in 1945 at the end of WW2 ( about 80% damage of central part ) and painstakingly rebuilt after the war; certainly one of largest reconstruction efforts in Poland.
If you want to take a good view of Wroclaw and whole Lower Silesia including Sudety mountains, you have to visit Sky Tower. It is the tallest residential tower in Europe ( 210 m ) and on top there is a viewing platform.
Not far from Wroclaw are very beautiful towns of Swidnica and Klodzko with old towns and city halls comparable to Wroclaw.

Hospitality is the most sacred tradition of Poland. We have a saying “Gość w dom, Bóg w dom.” which means “Guests in the house, God in the house.” One of the foundation myths of Poland is the myth of Piast the Wheelwright. Two travelers were looking for a place to rest and they were turned away by the local duke. Piast the Wheelwright invited them for the celebration of his son turning seven, which in the Slavic tradition was when you were old enough to be accepted into the tribe (very high mortality rates among children in the Iron Age meant a lot of tribes had that tradition: a child was welcomed as a person into the tribe only when it survived to a certain age, after which most children lived). Piast treated the strangers as guests of honor and asked them to bless his son (a great honor). It turned out the strangers were the angels of the One God and blessed Semovit, the son of Piast to become a Duke of Polans and his descendants to be kings of a great Christian kingdom. And so, thanks to the good heart and hospitality of Piast the Wheelwright God blessed the Piast dynasty to establish Poland as a Duchy and a Kingdom to last 1000 years (and still going). So, yeah. Hospitality is important to Polish people… 😊

Every old town in Poland has something to offer. Wrocław is no exception. I believe that you should not neglect Krakow and its offer for all tourists. Mushrooms. In Poland, mushrooms are wild mushrooms, store-bought mushrooms are like bread and toast, not the same. Vodka. Everyone associates it with Russia because they drink a lot, but it was created in Poland and there are hundreds of brands, there are better and worse ones, just like in the case of wine. The food is good almost everywhere, but ask around because people will recommend better ones.

Try the soup - Red borscht with the so-called ears - the so-called dumplings are tiny stuffed dumplings, warms you up, and for the second course: pork chop dumplings, chicken liver with onion. For alcoholic beverages, I suggest; "Żubrówka" with a special green herb giving a specific aroma and "Wiśniówka" and for you something strong "Wyborowa" and the beers are Tyskie and Lech. For dessert ; cheesecake, poppy seed cake, apple pie. Enjoy your meal.

Besides, generally Poles have their own culture of drinking this vodka. if you are a bit unlucky, you will see English tourists how they look after vodka.
