Charlie Watts, "heart of the Rolling Stones." has left us, today, August 24, 2021. Very sad day for devoted Stones fans as i have been for over 50 years.
I once saw an interview with him. Charlie was very polite & congenial. However, the interviewer got a little frustrated because Charlie just WOULD NOT TALK ABOUT HIMSELF. I say this as a positive. BTW, Keith is supposed to be great too.
He is actually real. Like really really real. A true and honestly human. The serenity follows him like a curious child finding exactly his hearts desire. To inspire others to find the same. When you listen to Charlie Watts play drums it’s watts you get.
Charlie might not be the most technical drummer in the world, but when he starts playing he never misses a beat. its right on the money. And his set hits perfectly with the sound that rolling stones is trying to portray.
Love charlie, the brilliance of his playing lies in his simple layed..back style! Only does a fill when absolutely necessary!! That makes it so much more exciting when you hear it!! That's his motus..operandai!! He knows what he's doing
@@thomaskemer8109 Yes he certainly does ! Charlie Watts is not about ' fills' , he is about 'feel' !! He is an absolute Master of groove drumming & awesome on many of the Stones ballads & love songs etc His passion & understanding of 'good music' is wonderful. He also 'swings' like no other ' Rock' drummer ! love him to bits ....
@@juliosanchez95 No he s not. But those 2 are the best at what they do. Less is more + everything is where it should be. The music/ recordings are proof of that. Best Wishes
Charlie, I never met you, don't know you, and after just hearing the news you passed, I never will. That, for me, is tragic. Everything I know about you, from interviews with your band mates, your friends, yourself, has only told me nothing but amazing things about how what a wonderful person you were, talented, funny, and inspiring. Without you, there would have never been a Rolling Stone's. Your music, and your love of vehicles was also inspiring. I'll see you someday my friend, just not just yet. Rest in Peace Charlie and from us mortals, thank you.
A genius? How??? Where does he fit in the Cobhams, the Colaiutas, the Phillips, the Porcoraros, the Richs, the Krupas, the Bonhams and so on...????? A sufficient timekeeper for sure, but how a genius..??..
RIP Charlie. Not only an absolutely amazing percussionist but a CLASS ACT in every respect. So grateful that I got to see him play on multiple occasions. The world definitely lost one of the good guys today 💔
NO flash..No monster sized kit, just playing in the pocket..And if you think that is easy, you really know nothing about drumming...This guy is so solid, and makes that 4 pc Gretsch sing as good as anything...Those drums are almost as old as the members of the band and they still sound great..
I’ve been a huge Rolling Stones fan since their beginnings….and it’s mostly because of Charlie Watts ! Myself being a drummer love the simplicity of his drumming !! I own Gretsch Drums because of Charlie Watts !!
Probably my favorite drummer. He's so reliable in the pocket, you'd never have to worry about the bottom dropping out. I'd take him over all the other greats any time any day
Thank you Mr. Charlie Watts for being the Heart Beat of the Stones, and letting us listen in...Our thoughts and prayers are with your family at this time.
Love Charlie and his drumming. His artistic sensibility: he sketches/draws every hotel room he stays in for starters. His jazz influence as well as his particularly unique take on 8th note rock, specifically not playing the hi hat when hitting the snare. It's not about his chops or speed it's about the way he makes his band and then in turn YOU and the audience feel. His concept is about the "dance" and I admire the fact that he picks his drums and sticks with them, gets to know them, falls in love and never leaves them. : ) Get your Ya Ya's out Charlie. P.S. Check out the scene in Good Fellas with the Stones "Monkey" as the soundtrack.
I always loved the sound of that oddball UFIP China that he used as his main crash cymbal in later years. It really became a big part of his signature sound. Also, if you notice, he ALWAYS had a drum key sitting on the 12 o'clock lug of his rack tom. I took that to mean that he might have had more of a hand in tuning his own drums, as opposed to most "rock stars" who let a drum tech handle such things. RIP, Charlie. You are forever brilliant.
Yes loved the fact that as with the Ufip China he used cymbals he enjoyed the sound of rather than what a big manufacturer chucked his way had he had an endorsement. Same goes for his vintage flat ride, unusual in a rock setting but perfect for his love of jazz!
Charlie really inspires me. I think Keef's got a great TOUCH on the guitar, whilst Charlie's got a great FEEL on drums. Put these subtle things together, that's the Rolling Stones Sound. Sometimes, I listen to Stones songs just for Charlie's drumming. It's just so good.
gracias Charlie por la magia ... SENSEI !!! Eres mi inspiración desde mis 14 años en 1970, No pare hasta que mis padres me compraron la bateria, la misma con la que aún hoy trato de seguirte...
Charlie Watts and Mick Jagger had been the creative people within the Stones. For me the best example in making of Gimme Shelter and Sympathy for the Devil. Without Charlies drums there wouldn´t be a Rolling Stones Sound.
Hoje dia 02 de Junho é aniversário do Mestre Charlie Watts.
To me, Charlie's drum set is as integral a part to the Stones' sound as Mick's vocals or Keith's guitar. As soon as you hear that China cymbal used in place of a crash cymbal you know it's a Stones song. So many bands try and sound like other bands, or conform to a "style". But the Stones developed such a unique sound from the late 60's and on that I can't hate on a guy for having an unorthodox way of setting up his instrument.
I love Charlie, he's a great drummer. As Jeff Porcaro says, "if you play any song of the Rolling Stones you may be trying to play as Charlie". MASTER!!!!
Put any other drummer in the Rolling Stones and you´ll have no Rolling Stones ...it´s as simple as that....just as an other drummer than Ringo in the Beatles...or Bonham in Led Zeppelin. It´s musicians that come together forming a sound...impossible to copy when it happens to create a terrific sound.
He was the perfect Drummer for the Stones and the band mates knew it. His style is very unique and Charlie coming from a Jazz background just added to his mysterious playing style.
