- welcome back to episode 6 of the new grad diaries! In this episode I get feedback that I'm not confident in myself, struggle with imposter syndrome, and interview with an NFT startup (very random, I know). In next week's episode I'll show you what it was like to interview at figma (for the second time smh) for a new grad software engineer position (spoiler: it was 4 hours of back-to-back interviews 😓).
the new grad diaries is a series about me (a senior in computer science in canada) trying to find a job (among other things). Life is scary and hard and so are interviews. Hopefully seeing me fail mine makes you laugh or maybe inspires you to apply to some jobs XD

So imposter syndrome is the worst thing ever. I think this is the lowest I've felt in a LONG time. But I did get better. I hope you all know that I believe in you and that you can do anything 💚💚💚

Thank you for your refreshing honesty! We need more of this openness in the CS industry. Imposter syndrome is real and everyone struggles with it.
I just gotta say I definitely see you as confident and when these companies are telling you they want you to be “confident” they want you to be their version of what they think confidence is. Interviewing is a skill and the only way to know what they want from you is lots of practice. You got this and please don’t be too hard on yourself because you are smart, talented and creative!

OMG MICHELLE YOU'RE THE BEST 💕 That's so true. It's their idea/version of what confident looks like. And interviewing definitely takes time to get used to and to develop ways to make yourself less nervous and to make a good impression. Plus it's different with everyone you meet. It's not just technically challenging but really hard to act a certain way too.
And I also wish there was more talk about imposter syndrome (especially by women in tech) because it affects a lot of us and I think more so when we're younger and have less experience. Plus people in CS generally just show the highlights of getting into companies and winning hackathons on LinkedIn and not all the garbage that happens in between 😆

Waaaw thank you muffin bestie 💕💕💕 mhm being confident is BS and too hard. Like leo said to me before, you gotta become like a geode 🤣 hard/tough on the outside ans beautiful on the inside. But it has to come from yourself and not from what others say to you. It takes time and effort to not feel like garbage

I loved mistborn so I have to read this!!! I need to get back into it. Did you read all the books released so far? The first one is so slow 😭
@@maria_sitkovets_tech The Stormlight Archives is elite! It may start slow but it’s such a great series. I think the slow start is because of Sanderson’s style of world building. I also liked Mistborn.

@@maria_sitkovets_tech I’m currently reading the latest book. I agree the first book was kind of slow but it gets better. I also started this series after reading the mistborn series.
