a hidden gem, i tend to return to this every once in a while, absolutely stunning. aphex twins music makes walks in the nature more vibrant and this cover makes it EVEN more vibrant. brings me happy vibes
That’s interesting, about the Celtic-ness. I can hear it too, now that you mention it. It could be a slowed-down fiddle melody for sure. Never caught it the original version. Nice ear. (-:
I'm not a musician, I'm a doctor. Though I always wanted to be a musician. Aphex Twin was also for me a creator who had a great impact on my music taste since teens. I am very happy there are people in different parts of this planet that have similar experiences towards same thing, which is amazing music by Aphex Twin.
you're welcome! I saw that you used Pastorale in your blog. Looks and sounds fantastic with those beautiful aerial shots of San Fran. Thank you for crediting me :)
This is 21 (Lichen) not 20 (hexagon). You're probably confused because most versions of the album are missing 19 (stone in focus). This is why using the number names is to be avoided, because almost all versions are missing #19 and all american versions are also missing #4, and no one ever puts gaps in their numbering when they're missing songs. Either use the original title (a photograph) or use the fan titles. EDIT: It should be noted that Aphex Twin himself has slipped and used the fan titles a few times (the recent Peel Session 1995 release called the drum mix of Radiator "Radiator (original mix)" and the orchestra version of Rhubarb he made is actually titled Rhubarb...he only released the backwards version of that 2nd one though). So the "unofficial names" aren't so unofficial anymore. I'd recommend just dropping the number and calling this Lichen. EDIT 2: guess I should say if I liked your cover tune or not. I think this sounds great! Don't let my pedantry stop you from doing an Aphex Twin cover tune again in the future.
hey there, thank you for EDIT 2. Glad you like the arrangement. I purchased license from BMG, who controls the publishing, and the piece seems to be registered as "#20" with no mention of Lichen. Also, there is not a piece published/copyrighted as 21, Hexagon, or A Photograph. Anyway, going off of the publishing I used #20 as the title, but then another Aphex Head like yourself, told me to add Lichen to the title. Definitely adding Lichen was the right thing to do, but considering it is a cover and I'm trying to honor the original composer, I'm keeping "#20" in the title, as that is the title the piece seems to be published under. Make sense?
you are! this version here is an arrangement of the original, which is what you heard on topboy: ruclips.net/video/w3ssNqg8U1c/видео.htmlsi=GlrryBIDU3TxHUXd
Been a huge fan of Aphex Twin and this cover i feel richard would like this.

I'm not familiar with Apex Twin, but I hear something lonely and celtic here (maybe!). It's a nice feel. Thanks Brandan.

Wow.

Outstanding, captures the feel of the original and makes it your own
Beautiful interpretation of what, in my opinion, is Richard D James' most incredible piece of music.

Personally I think the confusion on the name only honours the original composer. :D
Great rendition, love this and the rest of your work.
@@DBVRST few people in this world as mysterious and confusing as Richard so I agree!
no way we could get sheet music for this could we? really want to hear it on piano
beautiful! Can you do #3 Rhubarb?

:,)
For me this feels heavier than the original. Lost a bit of the floatiness. Nevertheless great sounds of the acoustic instruments. 👍
Am I the only one coming from topboy??>>>
