- The Second & Third Generation LEXUS IS250 - Which Is Better?
The Lexus IS series made its debut in 1998 the first generation (XE10) and was produced until 2005. In 2006, the second & most popular generation of the IS series, the XE20 generation, began production and ran until 2013.
Then in 2014, Lexus began the production of the third and most beautiful of the series, the XE30 generation and it continued until 2020.
The second generation of the Lexus IS, being the most preferred Japanese compact sedan, is what we would be focusing on in today’s video.
While they both share distinctive looks, they still share certain similarities.
The cabin of both cars were built differently to suit the lifestyle of the young but Lexus was extra creative with the styling of the third generation, giving the feel of a cockpit.
Due to a longer wheelbase, you do get more legroom and trunk capacity in the third generation of the IS250.
While the two cars share the same power train, the third generation put out 4 more horsepower then the previous generation.
They both share similar transmission and the XE30 outruns the XE20 in just two seconds.
The XE30 also got an updated and better placed infotainment screen with the LEXUS ENFORM being optional.
More driver assistance features were also included to make the driving experience of the XE30 more fun but having these differences & yet similarities bring about the need to ask the following;
Is the third generation (XE30) of the IS series really an upgrade from the previous generation?

Second gen IS is better. But that’s just ummm my opinion because my old 2008 model at 131k miles runs like champ and still has a long life ahead of her as I don’t daily drive her anymore.
Hi there. Thank you so much for watching. The XE20 IS is durable. Is give it that. The same engine was fitted in the XE30. While I do not know if the XE30 will take on the lot the XE20 deals with easily, I look forward to seeing it last a lifetime too.

Prefer the second generation.. the design is timeless .. & the interior tho smaller is way more luxurious than the 3rd generation ..

@@ridewithmiee my overall experience with the vehicle has been awesome just regular general maintenance oil change every 5000 miles tires rotated every 7000 miles brakes checked once a year the car has been a true blessing in disguise

The newer generation between the two has a larger screen with better display and controls basic functions. This is taken up a notch if you’re able to purchase one with the Lexus-enform interface
I prefer the second gen as I think it looks much better. Third gen is probably more practical though
