- In this video I demonstrate how to rebuild a Volvo Penta TAMD 31 Diesel raw water pump. This is a revised version showing how the pump can be mounted upside down.
Hello, thank you very much for your video. It is a video in which you explain perfectly how to replace the parts of the salty pump. Greetings from Spain.
Sorry.
I have a Faeton boat with a Volvo Penta Kad32p engine. 👍
Got to do one of these tomorrow, I am sure i could work it out myself, but it is much easier having a decent instructional video to follow, subscribed keep them coming.
Well pump done, spins nicely and no leaks, seems to me the seals are the weak point, anyway relaly just to say thanks for the video.
Thank you for the positive feedback! And I will keep working on new videos!
Looking at the shop manual I think the pump with the thicker housing is the new one. The shop manual page 45 for the KAD 300 at least says the early pump has the removable cam and the later has the insert wear plate in the rear. My pump is the heavier housing with no cam screw and has a replaceable end plate
Great as Im just about to do the same job. Would have been good to see how the bearing as pressed off the shaft but I assume the longer end of the shaft was pressed down and not the slotted end
That plastic spacer is not available as a sparepart anymore but I guess that both this plastic spacer and the oring dont have to be there if you just take the time mounting the seals in the correct way with correct distance between them?
@davidandersson7945 agreed, the spacers are not used so the sealer is moved to a solid sealing surface with no groove.
why are you pressing on the inner ring? I have learned that you are going to pressing the outer ring
Correct
I have an AD 31 in a Rosborough boat that we trailer every weekend. Randomly when we start it after the take out the water pump seems to need burped or primed when we return it to the water. I’ve checked the hoses , replaced impeller, etc . Any ideas on the problem?
Hello from Chesapeake, Virginia, USA. Yes, English please!
nice video could you make a video over new seal and clean out on the turbo on the tamd 31-41 engine
I will add it to my list.
What a great video! I kept having to rebuild my Oberdorfer water pump on my Universal diesel motor while cruising in the Bahamas. My only issue wasn’t having a press to remove and install the shaft. Would you have any suggestions for someone without a press. I ended up buying new pumps when they started to leak which was costly. Great video and thank you again for your time to put this together and share it!
A press is really the best way to get these pumps apart. Keeps everything g square when removing the shaft. Thanks for the positive feedback!
@@tedsmarinerepair8956 Thanks for the reply. I agree with the press as being the best option. My thoughts were how to accomplish this in some remote area without the press being available. Sleeping on it last night, I came up with the idea of a couple of plates on either end with large mouth C clamps. It was hard to find the right tooling when sailing in some areas.
Regardless, thanks for your time and efforts to educate us via RUclips. I appreciate it!
Oh one more question for you since you know so much about Volvos. The ONLY plate that I find on my 1984 Volvo MD30A is a single line with “NO 2035”. In your experience with older diesels like these, is there any remote possibility that this is the serial number? The local dealer doesn’t think so, but even the documentation from Sweden under serial number says “2035”. I’ve managed to find an online link to MD30A parts and the diagrams are exactly as I see so I think I’m okay. I’m wanting to purchase a paper shop manual and parts manual if possible.
very good video thanks
To the earlier questions on the subject, how would you recommend this be done without a press? Asking for those of us in remote places without a press.
I always want to do it the correct way, and that involves a press. I've seen people break housings by trying alternate methods
I'm replacing my kad43p volvo raw water pumps. The drive couplers were cracked so I replaced those. I can't see to line them up when I'm putting them back in. I think I got them started, but I had to use the bolts to get it all the way in. I'm worried that they may be just forced in wrong. Do you put the couplers in on their own first then push the shaft in?
Install the coupler onto the engine shaft and then turn the pump shaft until it lines up with the receiving coupling. It should slide into position without much effort.
Hello what is part name what you say rubber drive ”pepperoni”🤔?
Are most of the penta pumps most alike all of them ??
Have one same same here, but dont think it is a double barings ??
Allsow and tmd 31A
Have a leak back of impeller housing right now after scange of impeller and o rings
Anyone tried removing this pump with the boat still in the water? Any issues? I have to do it on my KAD 32
Can't use a hammer to press the bearings out?
What advance angle should be on the Volvo Penta Tamd 71a engine?
please email me at marinedoc01@yahoo.com
thanks for the video. Helps a lot since I do have the same engine. Are you aware that you have one scene in the footage that is in twice? The part with putting back in the second bearing.
Thank you for the positive feedback. And thank you for pointimg out the doubled part. Lots of editing of multiple videos to try to get it right!
@@tedsmarinerepair8956 No worries. I like the detail level of the video. I just had to watch this part twice since I thought that there was another bearing in the pump. And then I realised it was the same scene twice ;-)
